Abstract

Purpose: Aimed at supporting SMME growth, informing policymakers about regulatory improvements, and stimulating economic growth to benefit the population living below the poverty line in South Africa, this research involved participants from SMMEs in the Mangaung region. Design/methodology/approach: An exploratory qualitative study was conducted, utilizing interviews and thematic analysis methods. Findings: The research findings indicated that a majority of participants lacked effective financial management practices, primarily due to an inadequate understanding of the benefits associated with financial management in the context of SMMEs. Research limitations/implications: everal obstacles were identified, including an unstable income cycle influenced by external factors affecting the organization, which leads to substantial deviations from planned financial strategies. Furthermore, time constraints arising from operational demands also hinder the effective management of financial resources. The improper application of financial management principles resulted in a general lack of estimating costs, profits, and financial planning. Practical implications: However, SMMEs that properly implemented these principles experienced prolonged existence due to higher revenue, which has led to growth and sustainability, confirming the benefits of financial management in micro-enterprises. Abstract

Purpose: Entrepreneurial leadership is important in fostering innovation and long-term success. This study explores the challenges South African Small, Medium, and Micro Enterprises (SMME) face in adopting entrepreneurial leadership styles; these challenges are particularly pronounced in the South African context due to economic volatility, limited access to capital, and a lack of formal business education among entrepreneurs. Design/methodology/approach: This study employed a rigorous qualitative research design, conducting semi-structured interviews with 16 SMME leaders from diverse industries in the Vhembe District. Findings: The data were meticulously analysed using thematic analysis, revealing the critical leadership challenges and potential solutions. Research limitations/implications: The study has unearthed significant barriers to adopting entrepreneurial leadership styles, including internal resistance, external regulatory and economic pressures, resource limitations, and a lack of leadership awareness. These factors hinder innovation and long-term growth among SMMEs and provide crucial insights for understanding leadership dynamics in resource-constrained environments. Practical implications: The study's findings offer actionable recommendations for overcoming these barriers. It underscores the importance of cultivating an entrepreneurial mindset within SMMEs. These strategies can enable more effective leadership and foster business growth. Paper type: Research paper.

Abstract

Purpose: This study aims to explore how service quality at the Investment and One-Stop Integrated Service Agency (DPMPTSP) influences public satisfaction and loyalty in North Kalimantan Province. Design/methodology/approach: The research uses a quantitative approach involving 100 respondents selected through Slovin’s formula from a population of 727,755 DPMPTSP users between January and July 2022. Data were collected using a structured questionnaire and analyzed through multiple regression with SPSS. Findings: The study finds that all five dimensions of service quality—tangibles, reliability, responsiveness, assurance, and empathy have a significant direct effect on public satisfaction and loyalty. Satisfaction also acts as a mediating variable, though the direct effect remains more dominant. Research limitations/implications: The study is limited to North Kalimantan and only considers service users of DPMPTSP within a specific time frame. Practical implications: Improving service quality in each of the five dimensions can effectively enhance both satisfaction and loyalty among the public. Originality/value: This research provides empirical evidence on the dominant role of direct service quality factors over indirect ones in shaping satisfaction and loyalty. Paper type: Research paper

Abstract

Purpose: The aim of this study is to investigate the relationship between turnover intention and workload, work-life balance, and internal communication. One significant element influencing a company's personnel stability is turnover intention, so understanding the factors that contribute to employee intention to leave is crucial in efforts to retain employees. Design/methodology/approach: Using a quantitative method with a causal approach, this study involved 129 respondents consisting of permanent employees of the company. With the use of SPSS software version 25, data was gathered via questionnaires and subjected to linear regression analysis. Findings: With a regression coefficient of -0.278 and a significance value of 0.001, the findings demonstrated that work-life balance significantly and negatively affects turnover intention. Turnover intention is similarly negatively impacted by internal communication, with a regression coefficient of -0.359 and a significance level of 0.002. On the other hand, where the regression coefficient is 0.360 and the significance is 0.001, workload positively affects turnover intention. Turnover intention is significantly impacted by all three independent variables at the same time. This model can account for 27.4% of the variation in turnover intention, according to its F value of 15.708 and R Square of 0.274. These findings indicate that companies can reduce turnover intention by improving work-life balance, improving internal communication, and controlling workload effectively. By implementing these strategies, companies can reduce employees' intention to leave the company. Paper type: Research paper.

Abstract

Purpose: This research is motivated by the importance of increasing employee job satisfaction, because currently there are many problems that can affect job satisfaction such as workload that exceeds capacity or ability, low work motivation and suboptimal performance, and the need for organizational citizenship behavior in supporting company quality. By understanding the relationship between these three factors, companies can create more effective strategies, appropriate policies, and ideal work procedures so that optimal job satisfaction can be achieved. This study reveals the influence of workload, work motivation, and Organizational Citizenship Behavior (OCB) on job satisfaction. Design/methodology/approach: With a 5% margin of error and the Slovin formula, 110 individuals were sampled for the study. Simple random sampling was employed, and questionnaires were distributed to gather data. The data were analyzed using multiple linear regression via SPSS 25.0 apk. Findings: Both workloadsby the sig. value of0.813 > 0.05and work motivationby the sig. value of0.054 > 0.05did not significantly affect job satisfaction, according to the results. But it turned out that OCB had a big impact on job satisfactionby the sig. value of0.000 < 0.05. Overall, a significant relationship was found between workload, work motivation, and OCB with employee job satisfactionby the F value of10,197 andsig. of0.000 < 0.05. Paper type: Research paper.

Abstract

Purpose: This study aims to analyze the implementation of the Activity Based Costing (ABC) method in cost calculation for service units at the Orthopedic & Traumatology Hospital in Surabaya and to compare the results with the conventional costing method currently used by the hospital. Design/methodology/approach: The studies employ a descriptive-comparative method with a quantitative and qualitative approach. The data used include the hospital’s financial reports, particularly unit-level income statements, as well as information from interviews regarding activities and costs within each service unit. Data analysis was carried out in three stages: documenting costs, identifying activities and cost drivers, and calculating costs using the ABC method. Findings: The results show that the ABC method provides more accurate and relevant cost calculations because it is based on the actual activities performed in each unit. Cost calculations using ABC also yield more reasonable unit-level profit and loss results compared to the conventional method, which still allocates costs based on revenue percentages. These findings indicate that applying the ABC method can assist hospital management in determining fairer, more transparent service rates that reflect the resource consumption of each unit. Abstract

Purpose: The current research looks at how profitability and leverage affect a company's value, taking managerial ownership into account as a moderating factor. Manufacturing companies in the subsector of garments and textiles that are listed on the Indonesia Stock Exchange were the study's primary focus. The use of secondary data from company financial reporting. Purposive sampling was used for the sample process. Design/methodology/approach: Analytical methods used include descriptive statistical analysis, multiple linear regression analysis, and moderated regression analysis (MRA). Findings: The test findings demonstrate that the independent variables alone are unable to affect the dependent variable. Additionally, the moderating variable has not been demonstrated to effectively moderate how the independent factors affect the dependent variable. Research limitations/implications: Companies that manufacture clothing and textiles and were listed on the Indonesia Stock Exchange between 2019 and 2022 are the subject of this study. The results of this investigation might not be applicable to other sectors or eras. Practical implications: Investors can use the results of this study to help make financial decisions and by management in managing leverage and profitability. Originality/value: The author makes truth and originality the foundation of their work. Paper type: Research paper.
