Abstract

This research aimed to (1) analyzes the effect of model project-based learning approach STEM (science, technology, engineering, mathematics) on natural science learning to junior high school student’s critical thinking skills and cooperative skills, and (2) analyze how the effect of model project-based learning on STEM (science, technology, engineering, mathematics) on natural science learning to junior high school student’s critical thinking skills and cooperative skills. This research was quasi-experimental with a non-equivalent control group design. The population was eighth-grade students of SMP Negeri 1 Berbah. Sampling selection technique used cluster random sampling techniques and obtained class VIII B as an experimental class and class VIII C as a control class. Learning in the experimental class project-based learning model was STEM-oriented, and the control class used a scientific approach. The data were pretest and posttest critical thinking, observation sheets of cooperative. The analysis used the normality test, homogeneity test, MANOVA test, and effect size. The results showed that: (1) there was an effect of project-based learning model on STEM approach on critical thinking skills and cooperative skills of students of SMP Negeri 1 Berbah, (2) the effect of science learning project-based learning model on STEM approach on critical thinking and collaborative skill was on medium category.

Abstract

The purpose of this study was to determine (1) the differences in students' critical thinking skills in natural science subjects between those who use the Two Stay Two Stray cooperative learning model (TSTS) and those who use the Problem Based Learning (PBL) learning model (2) the effectiveness of Two Stay Two Stray (TSTS) type of cooperative learning models and Problem Based Learning (PBL) learning models in improving students' critical thinking skills. This type of research was an experiment with a Posttest-Only Control Design group method. The sampling technique used was Cluster Random Sampling to determine the experimental class and the controlled class. Data collection techniques were the test. Furthermore, the research instrument used the final test to measure students' critical thinking skills. From the results of data analysis, it was obtained the results of hypothesis testing and hypothesis testing on the effectiveness of students' critical thinking skills. The calculation results of the hypothesis test for differences in critical thinking skills of students using the Independent Samples t-test showed tcount greater than ttable (14.710 greater than 1.674) and a significance value of 0.000 less than0.05, while the results of the effectiveness test on students' critical thinking skills used the One Sample t-test. The test shows the value of tcount greater than ttable (11.654 greater than 1.708) and a significance value of 0.000 less than0.05. Thus, it can be concluded that the Two Stay Two Stray (TSTS) cooperative learning model can improve students' critical thinking skills.

Abstract

The study aimed to determine the effect of discovery learning models on learning outcomes of grade-VII students of SMPN 5 Nangapanda in the academic year 2019/2020. The type of research was survey research with a quantitative approach that used ex-post facto research designs. The population in this study was students of grade-VII of SMPN 5 Nangapanda, and the sample was 27 students obtained by purposive sampling technique. Data obtained from the study sample in the form of daily test scores on science subjects. The data analysis technique was performed by a one-sample t-test. The results showed the discovery learning model affects the learning outcomes of science students in grade-VII of SMP 5 Nangapanda in the academic year 2019/2020. This finding was indicated by the results of data analysis for science learning outcomes with the sig level. 0.05 and 95% confidence level, so that the sig obtained. 0.115 greater than 0.05.

Abstract

Plantae material consists of three primary materials, namely moss, ferns, and seed plants. Moss plant material is difficult for students to understand. Hence, It is necessary to develop an e-book on moss plants that can provide learning solutions related to moss plant material. This study aims to measure the level of validity, feasibility assessment by High-School Biology Subject Teacher Forum (STF) in Semarang City, and student readability. The research and development method used is the 4-D development model. Several stages in the development research are define, design, develop and disseminate. The development stage includes expert validation, feasibility, and student readability tests. The research subjects are students of class X SMA N 12 Semarang. The data collection instruments are expert validation sheets, assessment sheets, and readability sheets. The analysis technique used is descriptive data analysis. The result of the e-book validity test for the material content, presentation, and language assessment aspects are 96% (very good), 96% (very good), and 94% (very good), respectively. The results of the assessment by learning media experts is 93% (very good). The e-book feasibility test by STF in Semarang is 95% (very good), and the e-book readability test is 90% (strongly agree).

Abstract

The goal of This research are to understand  the use role playing method impact on student’s critical thinking skills and  the effectiveness of role playing method on students' critical thinking skills. This research is a quasi-experimental study using a non-equivalent control group research design. The population of this research is all of class VII of SMP Negeri 1 Berbah in academic year 2020/2021. The sampling technique in this study uses the Cluster Random Sampling method. By using the random sampling cluster technique, carrying out the class selection for the sample randomly, class D was obtained as experimental class and class C was obtained as the control class. The experiment class was using role-playing methods while the controlled class was using conventional methods. The data collection instrument consisted of pretest and posttest questions of critical thinking skills. The pretest-posttest score are used to obtain data for this study. The data analysis technique used are the prerequisite test in the form of normality and homogeneity tests and parametric statistical tests in the form of independent sample t-test, n-gain analysis and effect size. The results of this study showed that there is a significant effect in the use of role-playing methods on critical thinking skills of the students. From this study, it can be concluded that the role-playing methods are effective for the improvement of critical thinking ability of the students.

Abstract

Practicum is a form of learning activity relates to assessment, which is part of a series of learning processes. Assessment in practicum not only consists of cognitive aspects but also emphasizes affective and psychomotor aspects. Psychomotor is a domain related to skills or ability to act after receiving learning experiences. An authentic assessment of the psychomotor domain is needed to determine each student learns and apply their learning outcomes into life. The study aimed to determine the procedure for developing an authentic assessment instrument of the psychomotor domain for physics learning on measurement material in class X SMA and describe the teacher's assessment toward the developed the authentic assessment instrument. The study used Dick and Carey developmental model consisted of ten stages. They are (1) analysis the learning objectives, (2) learning analysis, (3) analysis of students and their environment, (4) formulating specific objectives, (5) developing assessment instruments, (6) developing learning strategy, (7) developing and selecting learning materials, (8) formative evaluation, (9) revision, and (10) summative evaluation. But, the article used only nine of ten stages. The validation sheet was assessed by two expert lecturers. The product of the psychomotor assessment instrument was validated by two expert lecturers through 2 revisions. The developed instrument was tested in small groups, namely class X MIA 7, SMA N 1 Muaro Jambi. The validation obtained a total score of 136. Means, the score included in the category of 136 less than or equal to N less than 150: "Very Good." The teacher's responses were 82% of very good (positive). In short, the developed instrument was feasible to continue to trial steps. The trial to 10 students obtained a mean of 82.1. Based on the range of student scores, seven students were classified as highly skilled, and three students were classified as skilled. Based on results and discussion, it concluded that authentic assessment instruments of the psychomotor domain for the physics learning on measurement materials were feasible to use for teacher class of class X MIA in SMA N 1 Muaro Jambi.

Abstract

This study aims to analyze the effect of the Sosio-Scientific Issues (SSI) based Problem Based Learning (PBL) on increasing scientific literacy and problem-solving skills of junior high school students. The type of research is Quasi experiment with Nonequivalent Control Group Design. The population included class VII Junior High School of 6 Yogyakarta that consisting of seven classes in the 2019/2020 school year. The sample is determined by the Purposive Sampling technique. The research instruments were pretest and posttest questions of scientific literacy and students' problem-solving skills. Hypothesis testing is done with MANOVA and effect size calculation to find out how much influence is given. Based on the MANOVA test, the Sig value is 0,000 that less than α (0.05) so that Ha is accepted (H0 is rejected). As for the calculation of the effect size obtained a score of 0.897 (high enough), which means that SSI-based PBL has a significant effect on increasing scientific literacy and a score of 1,027 (high), which means that SSI-based PBL has a high effect on improving students' problem-solving skills. Based on these results it can be concluded that PBI based on SSI affects the increasing scientific literacy and problem-solving skills.

Abstract

Science learning during COVID 19 pandemic had not been optimally implemented. This research aimed to discuss a new learning strategy, called science experimental accompanied by video tutorials as a distance learning innovation. A study literature method was used in this article. The experimental method was carried out in four stages, namely initial experiment, verification, concept application, and evaluation. This makes distance learning more effective and efficient. Students can develop thoughts, imaginations, and attitudes through exploration; foster interest and motivation to learn, and assisting in learning activities to achieve learning objectives without any limitations on distance and time. Demonstrations in this learning strategy can also be repeated and all students can understand the material.

Abstract

The result of observation and interview with science teacher at SMPN 23 Banjarmasin shows that students do not use any books when learning at class. The learning progress run by teacher centered while the students just listening and take a notes from teacher explanation. Students also never doing experimental learning in laboratory or in the field. The aim of this research is to describe about valitidy, practicality, and effectivity of the integrated natural science module with local content in wetland environment as media development for science learning. Population of this research is 8th grades students of SMPN 23 Banjarmasin. The method of this research is Research and Development (RnD) method using development design plot by Tessmer. The research indicates that the integrated science module has 81.25 value of validity which is shows the module are valid to use for learning media. The practicality of the module is 91.75 which indicates the module are easy to use bothly the teacher and student. The effectivity of the module calculated with N-gain which get value 0.71, it means the module are effective as learning media to reach learning purposes. The module also gain value 59.41 of science process skills indicates the module can help students to learn about science process skills.

Abstract

The learning model used by a teacher is a factor that supports the success of learning during the process of teaching and learning activities. The particular study aimed to determine differences in student learning outcomes and motivation before and after for learning using the concept map model in the material of chemical atomic structure for class X. This study used a quasi-experimental research method with the One Group Pretest-Posttest Design research design. The sample was 36 students from class X and selected using a purposive sampling technique. A test instrument was used to collect data of learning outcomes and a questionnaire used to collect data of student's motivation, and a pretest and posttest were carried out. Analysis of hypothesis test used Paired Sample T-Test. The results of this study were: (1) there were significant differences in term of student’s learning outcomes before and after learning treated using a concept map model in chemistry subject for the material of the atomic structure, and (2) there was a decreasing in term of student’s motivation before and after learning treated using concept map model in chemistry subject for the material of the atomic structure.
