Abstract

The Arabic letter "Kaaf" has multiple meanings. It's also a noun. There are several types of "Kaaf" in Arabic, but the "Kaaf al-Tashbeeh" is the most controversial. Some claim it's a "noun," and others say it's a "particle," while others try to reconcile the two by saying it's a "noun" in some circumstances and a "particle" in others. Some linguists say it's exclusively used for "simile," while others say it has various connotations. The research methods employed in this study are the descriptive analytical approach, contemporary Arabic grammar texts, and linguistic sources. This study seeks to understand why the letter "kaaf" has different meanings. The first section addressed the perspective of grammarians that "Kaaf al-Tashbeeh" is a particle and their arguments. The second section explored grammarians' justifications for calling it a "noun" The final section presents the stance of grammarians and linguists who seek a middle ground. According to linguists and grammarians, the expected outcome of the research is that the letter "kaaf" is undoubtedly a noun. It makes no difference if the characteristics of "nouns" set by the grammarians don't apply to it because many "nouns" don't have those characteristics, but no one disputes their being "nouns."

Abstract

The Arabic language's prepositions (huruf al-jarr) are among the letters specific to nouns, and they are most likely 20 letters. The present research deals with the ‘huruf al-jarr’ (prepositions) used in Arabic sentences regarding their addition and deletion from some Arabic sentences assuming the hidden or implied words. Also, the research deals with attaching the prepositions to the infinitives (al-afaal al-mujarradah) and its impact on the meaning and significance. Moreover, according to the objectives, the research will address the issue of adding the ‘huruf al-jarr,' the purpose behind the addition, the places from where the ‘huruf al-jarr’ is deleted, how the deleted item will be assumed and what is the effect of attaching these prepositions to the infinitives in some sentences of the Arabic language. The research relied on the descriptive analytical approach as it is appropriate for the study. The study's main results reveal that the actual particle (al-Harf al-Asli) must produce a new meaning that did not exist before its addition to the sentence. In contrast, the other particle (al-harf al-zaaid) only strengthens the general meaning of the sentence without producing a new meaning. Additionally, the actual particle and its associated noun must be related to an "aamil" to complete its meaning and deliver its effect to the noun in the genitive case (al-ism al-majroor). In contrast, the other particle does not need an "aamil" relation. Lastly, the actual particle causes the following noun to be in the genitive case, with no other place of declension (al-eraab) for itself or the following words. In contrast, the other particle requires an area of declension (al-eraab).

Abstract

The main objective of this study was to examine the use of speech acts theory in analyzing Arabic text literature, specifically, Al-Faisal's poetry, to gain a deeper understanding of the speaker's meaning and the beauty of language usage. The study employed speech acts theory, a branch of pragmatics that focuses on how language is utilized to impart information and carry out actions such as making promises, requests, and giving orders. Despite some criticism and questions surrounding the theory, its significance in analyzing text and understanding the speaker's intention and effect on the audience cannot be denied. The research results showed that Al-Faisal's poetry is rich in expressive value and is characterized by linguistic richness and artistic creativity. However, the study concluded that there are creative expressive forms in the Arabic language that do not fit into Searle's classification of illocutionary acts due to their performative nature with double meanings. As a result, the study recommends increasing applied studies on the Arabic text to uncover these expressive forms and enhance our understanding of the language.

Abstract

This study aims to discuss high school (MA) Arabic language books and analyze them in light of the Genre-based Approach (GBA) perspective. This learning approach began to draw scholarly attention after issuing the Decree of Minister of Religious Affairs (KMA) No. 183 of 2019 by the Indonesian  Ministry of Religious Affairs concerning the Arabic Language Education (PBA) curriculum. Academic research on GBA and Arabic language education has begun to be widely conducted, such as that of Hasanah (2022), which examined the implementation of Systemic Functional Linguistics' Genre-Based Approach (SFL-GBA) for PBA students at UIN Maulana Malik Ibrahim Malang. Scholars have yet to devote a specific analysis of MA Arabic books using a genre-based approach. This study found that (a) those books encompass only four types of text (descriptive, recount, exposition, and procedure text), far less than those presented in English and Indonesian books; and (b) contain several stages of a genre-based approach, modeling, joint construction, and independent construction, though implicitly stated.

Abstract

This study aims to address the issue of students' use of the idiomatic dictionary in their learning of the Arabic language. The idiomatic meaning has become necessary in understanding the linguistic context, especially at the verbal level and the reading text. The dictionaries circulating in libraries may only explain some vocabulary and structures with idiomatic meanings in speech. This study was conducted on 65 students from a public university in which Arabic became one of the communication languages between students and the classroom. The questionnaire distributed to the sample includes several sections, namely the background of the example, knowledge, and expectation of use. Data analysis of the study used SPSS Version 25 to obtain frequency, mean, and correlation tests to achieve the objectives. The result of the study recommends some remarks in the preparation of the terminological dictionary for students at the university level, including the size of the dictionary, the price, and the appropriate contents.
