Abstract

The problem of literacy is one of the problems that must receive special attention from the people of Indonesia. This is because, in the last few decades, the competitiveness of Indonesian people has tended to be less competitive, one of which is due to the crisis of literacy culture. This literacy culture crisis is often related to quality in an educational institution. Thus, this study aims to understand strategies to improve the literacy skills through strengthening the quality of school-based education. This research uses a qualitative approach with a case study type. The data in the study were obtained through observation, interviews and documentation techniques. The data is then analyzed using the Miles and Huberman data analysis technique which consists of data reduction, data display, and verification. The results of the study show that quality improvement oriented towards achieving literacy skills in students is carried out by; 1) reward and punishment for students, 2) teacher competence development, 3) learning orientation based on learning processes and outcomes, 4) teacher mastery of technological media, and 5) library visits.

Abstract

Teachers occupy a central position and are essential components in the education system. Thus, the government must pay great attention to the professional qualifications of teachers. This study aims to understand government policies for improving the quality of teachers. This study uses a mixed-method approach by combining qualitative and quantitative approaches. The population of this study was all teachers in Tanah Datar Regency, West Sumatra. While the samples used were teachers at SDN 001 Lima Kaum District, SD 07 Sungai Jambu Pariangan District, SDN 01 Gurun Sungai Tarab District, and SDN 03 Rambatan, Rambatan District. The research results found that the professional teacher quality level was still quite good. The results also show that the level of professional quality of teachers is still quite good. Efforts made by the government through its policies are carried out through; increasing teacher salaries and welfare, establishing a certification system for educators and education personnel, an education quality assurance system, and establishing professional working groups.

Abstract

Tremendous growth in technology, as part of the dynamics of globalization, can lead to gaps in student learning. Students tend to seek information and instant gratification through technological tools that have a major impact on their learning approaches, making it more difficult for them to be self-regulated learners. The aim of this study is to analyse the effectiveness of life skills counseling approach in enhancing the ability of self-regulated learning for high school students. This research is an experimental design by using randomized pretest-posttest with control group. The participants of this study consisted of 54 students of Senior High School level who were in the tenth grade. The data of the study were collected by the Scale of self-regulation in learning. Data analysis is used by two stages. First, data analysis for testing required statistical assumptions, ie test of data distribution normality with Kolmogorov-Smirnov test technique and homogeneity test of variance with Levene test. Second, data analysis for testing of research hypotheses conducted with Independent Sample t-test. The study shows that the life skills counseling has a meaningful effect on self-regulated learning. The average score of the experimental group was higher than the control group on all components of self-regulated learning.

Abstract

After two years of online learning, an evaluation is needed to assess whether the changes and adaptations in the process could achieve its objectives. Some adaptations had been done at UPI Laboratory School/s but no study has been conducted to assess its practice and success. Using the sequential exploratory mixed-method with the CIPP Stufflebeam model as a research framework, three teachers and 112 students from two UPI Laboratory Senior High Schools participated in this project. In-depth interviews were conducted with teachers, while online questionnaires were independently developed, validated, and distributed to students. It can be concluded that historical empathy in online learning at UPI Laboratory School/s; 1) is contextually appropriate to the conditions, resources, and needs of the institution and teachers but only part of the participants or students; 2) For Input section, aspects of the ability and capacity of teachers need to be improved; 3) As Process section, the teacher's workload and time constraints are the obstacles faced, and 4) in the Product section, the level of satisfaction among the participants varies with the theoretical aspects, dominating the practical outcomes of historical empathy-based learning. Overall, the learning program fulfilled the merit of being retained with some basic improvements.

Abstract

This study aims to evaluate the quality of statistical literacy instruments. With the ex post facto approach, the results of the statistical literacy tests of 150 students were used. Data were analyzed using PARSCALE, based on the Item Response Theory with a two-parameter GRM (2-PL) logistic model, namely item discriminant and item difficulty. The results showed that of the 12 items analyzed, all were good, and the GRM-IRT 2-PL model was the right model for statistical literacy instruments with polytomous answer types. The elements in the statistical literacy instrument have been constructed with accurate information about statistical literacy abilities ranging from -2.5 to +1.2. The least SEM occurs when the maximum test information function is assigned to the test set; therefore, it can be recommended for item analysis on other tests. The statistical literacy test items examined in this study can be used to assess student literacy statistics in various schools and regions.

Abstract

Student responsibility is one of the attitudes that is expected to exist in students in carrying out learning. The attitude of responsibility will be seen in how students carry out their duties and obligations optimally the responsibility of students in learning is still a problem. In a study conducted on grade 8 students in a private school in the Tangerang area, it was found that student responsibility was low. This study uses a qualitative approach with a type of case study. The research results show that numbered head together model carries student-centered learning by applying 4 stages. The planning and numbering stage is the stage that supports the next stage. At the stage of thinking together, students have discussions in groups so that there is an increase in responsibility to be active in discussions. At this stage, students work on worksheets with focus and caution so that students’ responsibilities in doing assignments carefully also increase. In the answering stage, students will be randomly selected based on the numbers on their respective worksheets so that students are ready to be called because students are already responsible for completing the assigned tasks on time. This research is expected to provide real solutions to the problem of student responsibility.

Abstract

This research discusses the learning independence of physically disabled students. This research was conducted at SMA Negeri 1 Ulu Moro’o. The informants consist of classroom teachers and parents of the students. The purpose of this study is to obtain an overview of the learning independence physically disabled students and the obstacles experienced by these students themselves and teachers. The research method used is a descriptive method with a qualitative approach. This research method is used because it has the purpose of describing the situation of the problem objectively under natural conditions. The data collection techniques used are observations and interviews. In general, the results of this study illustrate that students can be independent in learning only in limited learning or activities that use physical so that it needs attention and help from an educator.

Abstract

In management and institutional development, modification of the Islamic education curriculum is a must because of the times' demands and globalization's development. Therefore, pesantren need curriculum and learning management that follows the needs of the times and becomes a bridge for achieving the vision and mission of the institution. This article seeks to understand the form of curriculum and learning management in the context of modernizing the education and learning governance system in line with the times at Tarbiyatul Mu'allimien Al-Islamiyah (TMI) Al-Amien Prenduan. The approach used in this study is a qualitative research approach with a case study type of research. At the same time, the data analysis technique used in this study is the data analysis technique of Miles, Huberman, and Saldana, which consists of data condensation, data display, and data verification. The results of the study show that the distinctiveness of the modernization of Islamic educational institutions through curriculum management and learning at Tarbiyatul Mu'allimien Al-Islamiyah (TMI) Al-Amien Prenduan is carried out through external benchmarking activities in the fields of curriculum development and learning, curriculum development and program variations, and organizing education compelling character. The application of curriculum and learning management at TMI Wanita Al-Amien Prenduan also refers to three essential activities in students' daily lives. These activities are organized into intra-curricular, extra-curricular, and co-curricular activities.
