Abstract

Abstract

North Borneo has always been the object of international interests and politics. This situation is the effect of socio-demographic plurality that led to the absence of a cohesive socio-political identity that can unite them together. This study aims to analyze the social demographic history of the people of North Borneo (Kalimantan) in the 19th and 20th centuries to understand the complex geopolitics in the region during the decolonialisation process in the post-Second World War. Using a literature review, there are some points concluded, first, the Malay Sultanate of Brunei had dominated the political structure of the area that influenced the foundation of the Malay social system in North Borneo for the following centuries. Second, the colonial project of James Brooke changed the social order in North Borneo with the significant presence of non-Malay groups such as the Chinese until the mid-20th century. Third, the Japanese occupation during the Second World War had brought nationalism among the natives. This spirit had led to an attitude of ethnonationalism that makes it was challenging to build a cohesive national identity among different ethnic groups there. Fourth, after the war, regional conflicts due to the Cold War triggered differences in political systems among the new states that gained independence

Abstract

The end of the 20th century was marked by euphoria over the development of internet technology such as the world wide web, which brought changes to scientific development including accessibility of historical sources and its use. This shift supports new adaptations as well as challenges conventional archival models, while opening opportunities for these digitized documents in history learning. However, the conversion or digitization of archives in Indonesia is slow, let alone its use for education, especially history education. This paper will take some experiences from countries that have digitized archives and adapt them in the history learning process as a real-world real-time experience. Two countries, the Netherlands and Australia, will be compared to see how they implement these strategies and how Indonesia can adopt a similar model for it. Further, five teacher candidates were involved as informants in interviews regarding their effort to incorporate digital historical sources in the learningfrom-home activities. A qualitative approach was used to see the extent to which the readiness of technical and non-technical aspects of the implementation of real-world and real-time-experience learning model in history education. While the review shows how promising the digital history and historical sources in the developed countries is, Indonesia is not ready enough for its usage due to some issues. These challenges will be discussed further. Keywords: digital history, real

Abstract

This study aims to analyze the relation between perception of government handling the Covid-19 (PG), continuing study (CS) during the pandemic and how it can predict the level of job anxiety (JA) among young teaching staff in an Indonesia university. Sixty-four participants were selected purposively from a teaching university in Indonesia. Respondents filled three-set of online questionnaires. Using IBM SPSS 26, Pearson’s correlation and multiple regression technique were used to analyze the data. The results show a statistical significance for PG and CS as predictor for JA. It is concluded that perception towards government handling of Covid-19 and continuing study had a moderate significance relationship with Job Anxiety level among young teaching staff. The PG correlates negatively while CS correlates positively to JA. Despite the fact that the nation is still suffering from the pandemic, the lecturers consider continuing their study to be more anxious than the bad policy of handling Covid-19 issues.

Abstract

The Covid-19 pandemic is a period of challenges that are pressing the social capital of the nations around the world, including Indonesia. Archives, as a portrait of society and its history, of course, have a role in the revitalization of this network or social capital. How can education utilize Covid-19 archives in increasing social capital to deal with the pandemic and post-pandemic recovery? This paper presents a context-based-learning strategy in modern pedagogy to achieve two goals: the utilization of social capital and the development of national cohesiveness, which is used as an alternative in an emergency. It is obvious that the Covid-19 archives are highly potential to develop solidarity across national and beyond national borders. Here, we discuss how national and global responsiveness will add value to social capital at the regional, cultural, communal, and personal levels. It is hoped that with this strategy, post-pandemic social recovery will be accelerated where national interests move simultaneously with a more coherent discourse of identity and global solidarity.

Abstract

Abstract:  The implementation of the Merdeka Curriculum as the latest breakthrough in addressing the challenges of the 21st century needs to take into account the needs and conditions in the field based on what teachers face and what students desire, each with their own character. This study aims to analyze the views, experiences, and challenges faced by history teachers within the framework of the Merdeka Curriculum. Through qualitative descriptive interview methods with eight informants, including senior and junior teachers, several important findings emerged in four aspects of learning: curriculum, learning materials, learning resources, and teaching media. Among these findings are: (1) Teachers perceive the curriculum objectively as a tool for government indoctrination in both positive and negative senses, tending to associate its content with nationalistic or religious values. (2) Teachers' insights and teaching habits have an influence on how they contextualize historical materials. (3) Controversial historical materials are preferred by students and are considered important in making them wiser in understanding historical events. (4) Textbooks still remain the primary source of historical learning, but younger generations of teachers are more open to accommodating alternative sources.

Abstract

The international crisis as the Covid-19 global health emergency has emphasized the need to strengthen social values such as empathy. Meanwhile, online learning during the pandemic created new challenges for teachers in instilling social values and norms, including in history subjects. This study aims to develop an evaluation instrument for historical learning oriented toward cultivating historical empathy. Using the CIPP framework from Stufflebeam, academics (lecturers) and education practitioners (teachers) developed a set of questionnaires and tested them on 259 high school students in Bandung. Some conclusions that can be drawn include (1) the existing instruments are acceptable based on standard factor analysis and Cronbach’s alpha >0.7; (2) teachers tend not to include the element of empathy in learning history; (3) the context (C) and process (P) aspects of history learning based on historical empathy are still low compared to the input (I) and product (P) aspects.
