Abstract

The lack of effective local culture-based learning media is a challenge in instilling the value of independence in character education in elementary schools. This study aims to (1) describe the character value of independence in the Collection of Fairy Tales of Si Kancil and (2) describe the strengthening of the character value of independence as part of the teaching material for Indonesian language content in elementary schools. This research uses descriptive qualitative method with literary sociology approach and dialectical technique. The main data in the form of expressions that reflect the value of independence are taken purposively from five stories in the Collection of Fairy Tales of Si Kancil by M.B. Rahimsyah A.R. published by Lingkar Media in 2013. Secondary data were obtained from academic literature related to character, literary sociology, and children's literature. Data collection was conducted through literature study, analytical reading, and note-taking, with Miles & Huberman model analysis and validation through triangulation of methods and sources. The results showed that the Collection of Fairy Tales of Si Kancil contains four aspects of independence: emotional, economic, intellectual, and social. These values can be strengthened in Indonesian language learning through interactive strategies, such as group discussion, dramatization, story rewriting, as well as written reflection and case study. This study concludes that the collection of Fairy Tales of Si Kancil contains values of independence including emotional, economic, intellectual, and social aspects, which are relevant for strengthening students' character and can be effectively integrated in Indonesian language learning through interactive strategies in elementary schools.

Abstract

This study aims to examine the influence of school principal leadership on the work motivation of elementary school teachers in the Sarwas 3 area of Pemalang District. Principal leadership plays a strategic role in fostering a positive work climate that enhances teachers’ enthusiasm and commitment. Employing a quantitative correlational approach, this research involved 130 teachers selected through proportional random sampling to ensure representative data. Data were gathered using Likert-scale questionnaires that captured teachers’ perceptions of principal leadership and their work motivation. Simple linear regression analysis using SPSS revealed that principal leadership significantly contributes to teacher motivation, accounting for 61.2% of its variance. The dominant leadership dimensions influencing motivation include interpersonal relations and collaborative decision-making. These results highlight that effective leadership fosters mutual trust and supportive relationships between principals and teachers. The study recommends enhancing strategic leadership competencies among principals, particularly in interpersonal communication and participative leadership, as a means to sustain teacher motivation. This study contributes to the literature by reinforcing the pivotal role of principal leadership in shaping teacher motivation and offers new insights into the integration of interpersonal leadership practices within the context of educational management in elementary schools.

Abstract

This study aims to describe the implementation of management in the Child-Friendly School (Sekolah Ramah Anak/SRA) program at SDN 05 Bojongbata, Pemalang Regency. The SRA program is designed to foster an environment that supports the optimal fulfillment of children's rights through inclusivity and protection. Employing a qualitative descriptive phenomenological approach, the research utilized observations, in-depth interviews, and documentation to analyze management functions: planning, organizing, implementation, and supervision. The findings show that SRA program management at the school is systematic and participatory. Planning involves setting clear objectives, designing activities, developing implementation strategies, and assessing challenges and resources. Organizing is realized through the formation of an implementation team with structured task allocation and routine coordination. Implementation benefits from principal leadership, clear directives, and ongoing motivation to encourage active participation from all school members. Supervision is carried out via regular evaluation and follow-up based on established success criteria. Key success factors include stakeholder engagement, adequate facilities, and collaboration with external partners such as health centers. Nevertheless, challenges remain, particularly regarding limited human resources and funding, which must be addressed to ensure program sustainability. This study contributes both scientifically and practically by highlighting the pivotal role of effective, participatory school management especially in planning, leadership, and stakeholder collaboration as the foundation for optimizing and sustaining Child-Friendly School initiatives.

Abstract

This study focuses on the problem of low teacher competence in elementary schools in Petarukan District, Pemalang Regency, where only 46% of 80 schools demonstrate good learning quality. The research aims to analyze the influence of the principal’s role and school culture on teacher competence. Using a quantitative correlational ex post facto design, data were collected from 242 elementary school teachers through Likert-scale questionnaires assessing the principal’s role (managerial, entrepreneurial, and supervisory dimensions), school culture, and teacher competence (pedagogical, personality, social, and professional aspects). Descriptive statistics show the principal’s role is rated fairly well (mean=129.46; ideal midpoint=87), with entrepreneurial development as the strongest dimension and supervision the weakest. Teacher competence also falls within a fairly good category (mean=151.85; ideal midpoint=105), with personality as the strongest and professional competence as the weakest dimension. Pearson’s correlation coefficient (r=0.588; p<0.05) indicates a strong relationship between the principal’s role and teacher competence. Simple linear regression reveals that a 1% improvement in the principal’s role increases teacher competence by 0.598%, explaining 34.6% of variance. Theoretically, these findings reinforce the importance of effective school leadership and positive school culture in fostering teacher competence. Practically, the results recommend strengthening principals’ supervisory functions and entrepreneurial program development, as well as capacity building for principals, to optimize educational quality improvement.

Abstract

This study aims to develop and evaluate the effectiveness of the GeoLadder Polygon Board Game as an innovative learning medium to enhance the critical thinking skills of fourth-grade elementary students, specifically in polygon geometry. Using a Research and Development (R&D) approach based on the ADDIE model (analysis, design, development, implementation, and evaluation), the board game was systematically created and tested for educational use. The GeoLadder Polygon Board Game combines mathematical content with critical thinking exercises in a collaborative, interactive format, offering a hands-on and engaging alternative to traditional lectures. Validation by subject matter experts and media specialists yielded high feasibility scores: 88.3% for content accuracy and 96.6% for media quality, confirming the product’s suitability for classroom use. Field implementation at SD Negeri 02 Jampiroso with a purposive sample of students showed significant improvement in critical thinking skills, supported by a paired t-test (p < 0.05) and an N-Gain score of 0.83, indicating high learning effectiveness. Qualitative data from classroom observations and student questionnaires also indicated increased motivation, engagement, and collaboration. These results suggest that board games can effectively address challenges in understanding abstract mathematical concepts while fostering higher-order cognitive skills. The study recommends broader use of the GeoLadder Polygon Board Game in elementary mathematics curricula and encourages further innovation, including digital integration, to enhance accessibility and adaptability in diverse learning environments.

Abstract

Students' cognitive understanding of Civic Education (PKn) subject matter is still relatively low, which is one of the fundamental problems in the learning process in elementary schools. This condition is caused by several factors, such as the lack of active student involvement, monotonous learning methods, and minimal use of interesting and interactive media. The purpose of this study was to describe the effect of the Problem Based Learning (PBL) model assisted by Baamboozle media on the learning outcomes of Civic Education students in grade IV of SDN 14 Pekanbaru. This study used a Pre-Experimental design with the form of One Group Pretest and Posttest. This study involved a sample of 24 students from grade IV of SDN 14 Pekanbaru. Data collection techniques were collected through multiple-choice test questions analyzed by paired sample t-test and simple linear regression. The results of the paired sample t-test showed an average pretest of 63.08 and a posttest of 80.92. Based on the decision-making criteria for the paired sample t-test, sig. p <0.05, then Ho is rejected and Ha is accepted. Analysis using a simple linear regression test obtained an R Square value of 0.898 or 89.8%. The Baamboozle-assisted PBL model has proven to be an effective effort to improve civics learning outcomes, especially in elementary schools. The novelty of this study lies in the integration of the PBL learning model that focuses on solving real problems collaboratively with the interactive and interesting Baamboozle educational game media. The implication of this finding is that teachers, especially at the elementary school level, need to consider using more innovative and interactive learning approaches to increase students' cognitive engagement and understanding of abstract and conceptual civics material.
