Abstract

The declining internalization of Hindu spiritual values, such as sradha (faith) and bhakti (devotion), among Hindu students has raised concerns in the field of education, particularly in Hindu Religious Education. This study aims to explore the implementation of differentiated instruction as a strategy to strengthen sradha and bhakti values at SMAN 1 Abiansemal. Using a descriptive qualitative approach and a case study method, data were collected through participatory observation, in-depth interviews, and document analysis. The findings reveal that differentiated instruction through content, process, and product differentiation effectively accommodates students’ diverse readiness levels, interests, and learning styles. This strategy fosters active engagement in spiritual practices such as daily prayer, participation in religious activities, mutual cooperation, and acts of compassion. The approach also strengthens students’ religious behavior, ethical conduct, and social awareness, while enhancing their moral resilience against the negative influences of modernity. In conclusion, differentiated instruction proves to be a transformative pedagogical approach that not only conveys religious teachings cognitively but also instills them in concrete behavior, making it a relevant strategy for character building based on Hindu values in the contemporary era.

Abstract

This study aims to analyze the condition of students' Qur'an literacy, identify inhibiting factors, and formulate solution efforts at SMP Negeri 1 Percut Sei Tuan. This study uses a qualitative method with a phenomenological approach, collecting data through in-depth interviews, observations, and documentation studies. Data analysis was carried out using the Miles and Huberman models. The results of the study show that students' Qur'an literacy skills are at a low to moderate level, where most students still have difficulty reading with correct tajweed and writing Arabic letters correctly. The main inhibiting factors are divided into internal and external. Internally, the cause is low student motivation and lack of basic knowledge due to diverse religious educational backgrounds. Externally, the main obstacles come from the lack of parental support and supervision as well as limited time and facilities at school. To overcome this problem, comprehensive efforts are needed. Based on the findings, the proposed solutions include the addition of special lesson hours for reading and writing the Qur'an, the use of digital media for interactive learning, and the application of more practical learning methods. Although various proposals have been submitted by teachers, their implementation has not yet been fully realized. This study concludes that collaboration between schools, teachers, and families is crucial to improve students' Qur'an literacy effectively and sustainably.

Abstract

This study aims to describe the effectiveness of the implementation of the Learning Starts with a Question strategy in improving the learning outcomes of Islamic Religious Education (PAI) at SMP IT Nurul Ilmi. The background of this research is the low active participation of students and the understanding of the material that is not optimal. This strategy was chosen because it emphasizes questions as a starting point for learning, which has the potential to encourage critical and active student engagement. This study uses a qualitative approach with a case study method. The research subjects consisted of one PAI teacher and three grade VIII students at Nurul Ilmi IT Junior High School. Data was collected through observation, in-depth interviews, and documentation, which were then analyzed with stages of reduction, presentation, and conclusion drawn. The results of the study show that the Learning Start with a Question strategy is effective in improving student learning outcomes, both cognitively and affectively. Cognitively, this strategy has been proven to facilitate a deeper understanding of the material, which is reflected in the average grade point average that reaches above the KKM. Affectively, this strategy successfully fosters active participation, courage to ask questions, and a positive attitude towards learning. Teachers act as facilitators who manage discussions, while students become more independent and motivated. However, there are challenges related to students' readiness to read the material and the lack of parental support. Overall, this study concludes that the Learning Starts with a Question strategy is an effective method to create interactive, participatory, and holistic PAI learning.

Abstract

The development of digital technology has had a major impact on the dissemination of information, including in the entertainment and film industries. One prominent phenomenon is the increasing ease of access to film content containing intimate scenes through digital streaming applications. This study aims to examine how Islamic criminal law views such actions, as well as their relevance to the principles of ḥisbah and ta‘zīr in enforcing public morality. The method used is a normative qualitative study with a legal-theological approach. The data sources used include the Qur'an, Hadith, and the opinions of classical and contemporary scholars on pornography. The results of the study indicate that the distribution of film content containing intimate scenes is prohibited (ḥarām) because it contradicts the maqāṣid al-syarī‘ah, particularly in the aspect of hifẓ al-‘irḍ (preserving honor). In the context of Islamic criminal law, perpetrators may be subject to ta‘zīr sanctions in accordance with the policies of the authorities (ulil amri) in order to protect the interests of the community and prevent further moral decay. This study recommends strengthening Sharia-based regulations in the supervision of digital content, as well as the active role of authoritative Islamic institutions in media ethics education and advocacy.

Abstract

This study aims to examine the implementation of the Prophet's teaching method in Islamic Religious Education (PAI) learning and its impact on the formation of student character at SMA Negeri 1 Perbaungan. Departing from the urgency of character education, this study uses a qualitative method with a case study approach. Data was collected through observations, interviews, and documentation from teachers, students, and vice principals. The results of the study show that PAI teachers in this school dominantly apply the five main methods of the Prophet, namely exemplary (uswatun hasanah), gradual, discussion and question and answer, giving advice (mau'izah), and motivation and threats (targhib and tarhib). These methods have proven to be effective in shaping students' religious character, improving understanding of Islamic teachings, and creating an interactive learning environment. The success of the implementation is supported by the creativity and example of teachers, student activity, and full support of the school. Meanwhile, the obstacles faced include low interest in reading students, the passive attitude of some students, and lack of supervision over the use of technology. Overall, this study shows that the teaching method of the Prophet not only relevant, but also highly applicable in the context of formal education to shape the character of students in the modern era. The results of this study contribute to the development of an effective PAI learning model oriented towards the formation of noble morals.

Abstract

The purpose of this study is to analyze the creativity of Islamic Cultural History (SKI) teachers in developing learning media in MIN 12 Medan City. This study uses a qualitative method with a field study approach, involving 1 SKI teacher and 10 4th grade students as informants. The data collection techniques used were interviews, observations, and documentation, with data analysis using the Miles and Huberman models. The results of the study showed that SKI teachers used various visual and audiovisual media, such as comics, images, animated videos, and PPTs. The development of this media is based on research on student needs and ideas derived from social media, peers, and training. Teachers modify media by simplifying the display, breaking down the material into small sections, and adding interactive elements like quizzes. The effectiveness of the use of this media is evident from the increase in student participation, interest, and understanding of SKI materials, even though teachers face obstacles such as limited time and infrastructure. In conclusion, the creativity of SKI teachers at MIN 12 Medan City plays an important role in creating innovative and effective learning, which can be a reference for other educators.

Abstract

This study aims to describe the implementation of the Ismubaristik program in strengthening worship education at SMP Muhammadiyah 1 Medan. The research focuses on the execution of program activities, supporting elements, and the challenges encountered during its implementation. A qualitative approach with a phenomenological method was adopted to explore students’ lived experiences while participating in the program. Data were collected through participatory observation, in-depth interviews with students and teachers, and document analysis. The data were analyzed using Miles and Huberman’s interactive model, including data reduction, data display, and conclusion drawing. The findings reveal that the Ismubaristik program is carried out through various worship habituation activities such as Qur’an memorization (tahfidz), congregational prayer, funeral bathing practice, and hajj and umrah simulations. The program is systematically implemented through well-planned stages and regular evaluations. Its implementation has proven effective in fostering students’ religious character, as reflected in increased discipline, responsibility, and spiritual awareness in both school and daily life settings.

Abstract

This study aims to analyze the role of religious scholars and the state in regulating cigarette consumption in Indonesia based on the perspective of Islamic law. This study uses a normative legal method with a literature review approach. Although the negative effects of cigarettes on health and the environment have been scientifically proven, regulations in Indonesia remain permissive and rely solely on control measures rather than prohibition. From a religious perspective, fatwas issued by religious scholars, such as those from the Indonesian Ulema Council (MUI), state that smoking, especially in public places, for children and pregnant women is haram (forbidden). However, these fatwas have not been consistently followed, either by religious leaders themselves or by the general public. From the state's perspective, regulations through Law No. 36 of 2009 and Government Regulation No. 109 of 2012 tend to only restrict the distribution and promotion of cigarettes without directly addressing individual consumption. The main focus of the analysis lies in the lack of harmony between the fatwa of religious scholars, which generally prohibits smoking, especially for vulnerable groups and in public spaces, and state policies that tend to be permissive and only serve as a form of control. The results of the study indicate a lack of harmony between religious norms and state law, as well as the need for integration between fatwas issued by religious scholars and state policies in order to create an effective regulatory system that prioritizes the welfare of the people. This study contributes to strengthening public health regulations based on maqashid syariah, particularly in efforts to protect life (hifz al-nafs) and achieve the welfare of the people through synergy between religious norms and state law.

Abstract

This study aims to analyze the optimization of the role of the Campus Da'wah Institute (LDK) in improving the emotional intelligence of students of the Islamic Religious Education Study Program (PAI), Faculty of Tarbiyah and Teacher Training (FITK), State Islamic University of North Sumatra (UINSU) Medan. Using a qualitative approach of the phenomenological type, this study seeks to identify aspects of emotional intelligence that develop through student participation in LDK organizations. Data was collected through observation, interviews, and documentation, then analyzed using the Miles and Huberman model which includes data reduction, data presentation, and conclusion drawn. To ensure the validity of the data, the researcher applied triangulation and prolonged engagement techniques. The results of the study show that LDK has a significant role in improving students' emotional intelligence through five aspects, namely: enhancing self-awareness, enhancing self-control, building self-motivation, enhancing empathy, and improving social skills.

Abstract

The concept of gratitude in Islamic teachings occupies an important position in shaping spiritual awareness and ethical values in the lives of the faithful, especially when examined through the perspective of Sufi interpretation. The meaning of gratitude is not limited to verbal expressions of divine gifts, but encompasses an inner dimension that reflects internal acknowledgment, expressions of praise, and the application of blessings in tangible actions. This study aims to examine how the verses of gratitude are interpreted in Tafsir al-Qusyairi, a tafsir work that highlights the isyāri approach and deepens the spiritual aspects of the Qur'an. The approach used is descriptive-qualitative through literature study, emphasizing thematic analysis of the word "gratitude" in the Qur'an based on the Sufi understanding according to al-Qusyairi. The study results indicate that according to al-Qusyairi, gratitude consists of three main dimensions: inner acknowledgment through the heart, verbal expression of praise, and the practice of blessings through behavior. In the Sufi framework, gratitude is viewed as a spiritual maqām that represents the existential closeness of a servant to their Lord, while also serving as a means of purifying the soul and surrendering to the Divine will. In addition to its transcendental aspect, gratitude also has positive social consequences, such as fostering humility, sensitivity towards others, and a spirit of solidarity. Therefore, the Sufi interpretation of the verses of gratitude not only enriches the inner approach to the Qur'an but also contributes to shaping the religious character and social ethics of Muslims in a complete and comprehensive manner.
