Abstract

Reports of surveys on exercises that can increase bone mineral density (BMD) have already been proven in many studies. One of the efforts to organize formal physical exercise for every level of society is the formation of Senam Pencegahan Osteoporosis (SPO) - Physical Exercise to Prevent Osteoporosis. Is SPO able to increase BMD for women aged 25-35 years? A total of 46 healthy young women ranging from 25 -35 years of age who had never done or even were not involved in any exercise before the time of the study were divided into two groups (23 experimental and 23 control participants) and volunteered to proceed a three times a week of this exercise for 3,5 months. BMD was measured by using Dual Energy X-ray Absorptiometry (DEXA). A significant increase of BMD in the ulna, vertebral lumbar 2, and vertebral lumbar 1-2 was detected in the experimental group. There is a strong indication that SPO can increase BMD, especially in the ulna, which has a high risk of osteoporosis.

Abstract

The foot arch is one of the many parts of the leg that plays a crucial role in supporting and balancing body weight, as well as regulating body movement during walking and running. Despite this, research on the foot, particularly in student-athletes, remains limited. Therefore, this study aims to analyze the variations in arch types of the foot among student-athletes from various sports disciplines. The research employs an observational study method with participants being student-athletes from soccer, futsal, archery, and pencak silat. Foot measurements are taken using the wet test, while height is measured with a stadiometer, and body weight and BMI are assessed using the Omron Carada Body Fat Scan. The results indicate that futsal and soccer athletes predominantly have normal foot arches, with 90% in each group, while only 10% exhibit flat arches. In contrast, archery and pencak silat athletes show a greater variation in arch distribution, with 30% and 40% having flat arches, and 70% and 60% having normal arches, respectively. The study concludes that while normal foot arches are the most common among athletes, the distribution of foot arches varies by sport, which may reflect the biomechanical needs and specific training patterns inherent to each sport.

Abstract

Physical activity during childhood is critical for healthy growth and development, contributing to both physical and mental well-being. This study aimed to assessment of physical activity levels and anthropometric measurements among elementary school children living on Panggang and Pramuka Islands, part of the Thousand Islands regency in Indonesia. The study sample includes 264 students from grades V and VI, consisting of 152 male and 112 female participants. Physical activity was evaluated using a modified version of the International Physical Activity Questionnaire (IPAQ) designed for children. Anthropometric measurements, including weight, height, and body mass index (BMI), were collected using a Xiaomi Mi 2 Pro scale for weight and BMI, and a stadiometer for height. Findings reveal that most students on these islands engage in moderate to high levels of physical activity, reflecting the outdoor, active lifestyle typical of the region. However, a minority of students exhibited low physical activity levels, highlighting the need for targeted interventions to increase engagement in physical activity. The unique geographic and cultural setting of Panggang and Pramuka Islands underscores the importance of developing localized strategies to enhance physical activity and ensure the long-term health of children, preventing potential risks like obesity, cardiovascular issues, and psychosocial challenges. This research provides a comprehensive understanding of children's physical activity and health status in the Thousand Islands, offering valuable insights for policymakers and educators in promoting healthier lifestyles in similar remote settings.

Abstract

The purpose of this study was to determine the development of a valid and effective bolang game model for inclusive education children. The research method is a research and development method by adopting the Borg and Gall stages into three stages, namely research, development and diffusion. The expert validators of the research include expert game validators and competition experts in the field of inclusive education. Data collection using a questionnaire sheet (questionnaire). Data analysis using percentage analysis. This study concluded that the bolang game model for inclusive education children's competitions was declared very valid with an average expert validation of 93.5%. The results of the field trial explained that the small scale had a percentage of 91.6 while the large scale was 89.5 with very good criteria. The bolang game is a term for a hole ball game, played using both hands to put the ball into a small hole as a target. The bolang game model can be used as a media for competitive sports of choice for inclusive education children, due to limited access to space for movement, making it difficult to do the types of sports that are usually played by normal children.

Abstract

This study examines the effect of movement coordination and core stability training on increasing the suitability of movements and speed of breaststroke swimming. The sample in this study amounted to 20 people who were taken using purposive sampling technique, then ordinal pairing was carried out to divide each group, the control group (not getting training) and the experimental group (getting training). The research method used in this study was a quasi-experimental with a nonequivalent control group design pattern. The parameters used to measure the suitability of movement are the breaststroke swimming movement suitability analysis indicator form, while the swimming speed is a 50-meter breaststroke swimming test. The results showed that movement coordination training and core stability training significantly increased the suitability of movement and swimming speed, with a significance value of p <0.05. The greatest increase was seen in athletes in the experimental group, especially in athletes with age categories III and IV, compared to the control group. Thus, athletes will get a training pattern that suits their respective characteristics, so that they feel comfortable and motivated in the training process towards achieving training goals. For further research, data collection on the suitability of breaststroke movements was carried out using a video camera so that the movement assessment was clearer and more detailed.

Abstract

Character development and student independence are major challenges in junior high school education, especially in this increasingly complex era. This study examines the effectiveness of the implementation of the Teaching Personal and Social Responsibility (TPSR) model in improving students' independent behavior at SMPN 29 Bandung. Using a Classroom Action Research (CAR) design, this study involved 100 students who were observed during three learning cycles. Data collection was conducted through a combination of structured questionnaires and systematic observations. The results of the analysis showed a significant increase in students' independence scores from 76.69 to 89.85, reflecting the success of the TPSR intervention. This model has been proven effective in developing various aspects of independence, including decision-making, interpersonal skills, and personal and social responsibility. More importantly, this study revealed that students were able to transfer the skills learned into the context of everyday life outside of school. These findings provide strong empirical evidence to support the implementation of the TPSR model as a pedagogical strategy in developing student independence. It is recommended that schools adopt and implement the TPSR model systematically and sustainably to maximize its positive impact on students' character development.

Abstract

Smoking is known to have adverse effects on lung health. Study shows that regular exercise is known to improve of the respiratory system health. Sports students are a group that has physical activity and exercise that meets the physical activity standards of 150 minutes of moderate intensity of aerobics physical activity per week, but many of the students are smoker. This study aims to determine the lung capacity of sports science study program students who smoke compared to students who do not smoke. This study was a cross-sectional study in which 32 male students of sports science departement Universitas Muhammadiyah Cirebon with an average age of 20 ± 1.28 years, an average body weight of 56.45 ± 8.26 kg, and a height of 165.58 ± 7.15 cm, were divided into two groups namely: smoking group (n = 16), and non-smoking group (n = 16). Subjects were asked to answer a questionnaire related to smoking habits and then the lung capacity of the research sample was measured using an SP70B spirometer (Contec Medical System Co., Ltd., China). Most of the smoking group (75%) consumed 1-5 cigarettes per day, with an average of 4.73 ± 3.15 years of smoking. The results of the measurement of force vital capacity (FVC) of the smoking group amounted to 3.31 ± 0.42 L with an average predicted %FVC is 74%. While the non-smoking group had an average FVC is 3.6 ± 0.6 L with an average %FVC is 80%. The results of the paired sample test found that there was a significant difference between the FVC of subjects who smoked and those who did not smoke with a significance value of 0.000 (P <0.05). The group of smoker students actively exercised had significantly lower lung capacity values than the group of students who actively exercised but non smoker. Non-smoker students had significantly better FVC (L) than smoker students (p=0.000). Thus, smoker students but actively exercised have lung capacity values that are at risk (FVC <80%).

Abstract

An adequate level of physical fitness enables athletes to sustain repeated high-intensity activities, facilitate the recovery process, and maintain optimal physical condition. Regardless of the player's gender (female or male), football players need to achieve a balance in developing physiological and physical capacities. This study aims to analyze the fitness profile of the West Java women's football team that has achieved achievements in the XXI PON Aceh Sumut 2024 based on heart rate data. An observational study was applied involving 14 professional female football players (age: 21.5 ± 2.8 years) and monitoring heart rate conditions (Polar Versity Team Pro) during the match. The average percentage of overall players' heart rate during the match was 90% of the maximum heart rate. The average percentage of heart rate for defenders reached 91%, which differed from midfielders and forwarders during the entire match, reaching 88% and 89% of the maximum heart rate, respectively. The main finding of this study is that the physical fitness condition of professional female football players competing in the competition is declared fit. There was no significant difference in heart rate data from the three positions, indicating that the physical demands of female football players are relatively the same even though they have different roles and positions.
