Abstract

In rowing, athletes face high pressure due to intensive training, intense competition, and expectations from coaches and the environment. Achievement motivation is a significant factor in achieving optimal performance, but excessive pressure can increase the risk of burnout. In the field, many athletes experience physical and emotional exhaustion due to the drive to achieve without good stress management. This study aims to understand the role of achievement motivation, which is generally considered positive but also has the potential to trigger burnout. The method used is quantitative descriptive with an ex-post facto approach, involving active rowing athletes in Bandung City. The research instrument was a closed questionnaire with a scale of achievement motivation and burnout. The results of the study showed a significant relationship between the two. The higher the motivation to celebrate, the lower the risk of burnout, while low motivation increases the risk. In conclusion, a balanced approach is needed in building athlete motivation, by considering psychological factors and training load management. Coaches and support teams are advised to implement burnout prevention strategies, such as optimal recovery programs, psychological assistance, and creating a training environment that supports the mental well-being of athletes.

Abstract

Futsal sports have very fast and dynamic game characteristics that require players to move quickly and dynamically on the field. During the match, the psychological changes of futsal athletes must change due to several factors such as stress, Concentration Stress, and mental pressure. Therefore, one of the mental skills that can be used when several of these factors occur is to use Positive Self-Talk skills. This study aims to determine the positive influence of self-talk on the decision- making of young futsal athletes. The method used is an experiment with a quantitative approach and one-group pretest-posttest design. The sample consisted of 12 futsal extracurricular students of SMAN 11 Bandung with a total sampling technique. The instrument used was the Decision Style Questionnaire (DSQ). The results showed there is a significant effects positive self-talk on decision-making of young futsal athletes. These findings suggest that positive self-talk is effective in improving decision-making in young futsal athletes. It is recommended that coaches incorporate mental self-talk training into training programs and that further research be conducted with a larger sample size and exploration of other types of self-talk.

Abstract

The arch of the foot is a biomechanical structural element that can affect the physical performance of athletes in sports that require dynamic movements such as soccer. The arch of the foot, both normal and flat, contributes to the efficiency of movement and load distribution when running, jumping, and changing direction suddenly. Therefore, this study aims to analyze the differences in agility performance and vertical leg muscle explosive power in regional-level soccer players based on variations in the shape of the arch of the foot, namely normal and flat. The method used is an observational study involving regional-level soccer players aged 19–22 years who have participated in regional-level competitions. Agility measurements were carried out using an 8×5 meter back and forth running test, while vertical jumping ability was assessed through a vertical jump test using the Vertec tool. The results of the study with the t-test showed that there was no significant difference between the normal and flat-footed groups in either the agility variable (p = 0.141) or the vertical jump (p = 0.121). The conclusion of this study shows that there is no significant difference between regional level soccer players with normal and flat foot arch types in terms of agility and vertical jumping ability.

Abstract

Whole Body Reaction Time (WBRT) is an important biomotor component in the performance of badminton athletes, especially in responding to unexpected stimuli during matches. This study aims to compare the WBRT between male singles and doubles badminton athletes aged 14–17 years. The research used a quantitative comparative approach with purposive sampling technique. The population consisted of 60 athletes at PB Taqi Arena, West Bandung Regency. Based on the inclusion criteria, 37 athletes were selected as samples, consisting of 18 singles and 19 doubles athletes. Data collection was conducted on May 3–4, 2025. Measurements included anthropometry (Omron Karada Scan HBF-375), height (Stature Meter OneMed HT701), and WBRT (Whole Body Reaction Measuring Equipment Takei TKK-5408). Shapiro–Wilk normality test results indicated normal distribution in both groups (p > 0.05). The average WBRT for singles athletes was 0.286 ± 0.024 seconds, while for doubles athletes it was 0.260 ± 0.021 seconds. The independent samples t-test showed a significant difference between the two groups (p = 0.002). These findings indicate that doubles athletes have better whole body reaction speed compared to singles athletes. This difference is likely influenced by tactical demands and playing patterns in doubles, which require quick responses to stimuli from both opponents and partners. These results can serve as a basis for designing specific training programs based on match type to optimally improve athletes' reaction performance. Keywords: badminton, reaction time, whole body reaction, singles and doubles events.

Abstract

Agility is an important component in badminton. Agility is the ability to move with speed and accuracy to reach the shuttlecock in various corners of the court. This study aims to analyze the correlation between lower-limb power and body composition on agility performance in badminton athletes. Participants were 27 female badminton athletes aged 15.44 ± 0.97 years. Body composition (height, body fat percentage - BF%, body mass, BMI, skeletal whole body muscle - SM%), countermovement jump - CMJ, and t-test agility was measured. The data was analyzed using descriptive statistics, Spearman correlation test and hierarchical multiple regression. Spearman correlation test showed that there was no significant relationship with agility (r = -0.40, p = 0.884). Hierarchical regression analysis showed that age, body composition, and CMJ only explained 17.4% of the variance in agility, with a statistically insignificant contribution (ΔR² = 0.019, p = 0.483). Among the independent variables, BF% had a strong positive relationship with body mass (r = 0.763, p < 0.01), indicating that the higher BF%, the higher the body mass. Meanwhile, SM% had a significant negative correlation with BF% (r = -0.498, p < 0.01) and body mass (r = -0.506; p < 0.01), indicating that the higher SM%, the lower the BF% and body mass. Although the variables tested did not contribute significantly to agility, various previous studies have shown that training programs such as plyometrics, core strength training, and Velocity-Based Resistance Training (VBRT) are effective in increasing lower-limb power, which also affects agility. Abstract

Physical activity during adolescence plays a vital role in supporting optimal physical and mental development. This study aimed to assess physical activity levels and sedentary behavior among junior high school students in Thousand Islands regency of Jakarta, Indonesia. The research involved 215 students from grades VII and VIII, consisting of 104 males and 109 females. Physical activity levels were assessed using a modified version of the International Physical Activity Questionnaire (IPAQ) tailored for adolescents. The results indicated that the majority of students on both islands demonstrated moderate to high levels of physical activity, with a relatively low prevalence of sedentary behavior. These findings suggest that the students’ engagement in active routines is influenced by the geographic and socio-cultural characteristics of their island environment, which promote outdoor and communal activities. However, a small portion of students reported low activity levels, emphasizing the need for context-sensitive interventions to sustain and enhance active behaviors. This study highlights the importance of integrating localized health promotion strategies to prevent the long- term risks of obesity, metabolic disorders, and mental health challenges. The results serve as a valuable reference for health policymakers and educators in designing effective physical activity programs for youth in remote and coastal communities.
