Abstract

This article specifically analyzes monotheism-based pluralism in Indonesia from the perspective of Nurcholish Madjid. Often, in reality, religion does not exist as a unifying tool for its people, but instead creates divisions. Both the internal and external divisions of the ummah due to the differences they have caused, for example the burning of places of worship, injuries, loss of life, both material and immaterial losses, etc. Monotheistic-based pluralism is relevant in Indonesia, especially in promoting tolerance, peace and understanding between religions. Regarding pluralism, it is not enough if their understanding is limited to the discourses that are on the air. The implementation of attitudes and behavior lies in the adherents of each community (religion), who have been given an understanding by each of the religious leaders they adhere to. The research method in this article uses descriptive qualitative analysis, and data collection uses library research steps. The primary source of data is taken from Nurcholish Madjid's thoughts in the form of his book, and the primary source comes from scientific journals that are relevant to this study. In the results of this study, that Tawhid is interpreted as the Oneness of God which has implications for accepting awareness of human equality and dignity in their position as God's creatures. Humans look only to God, and to fellow human beings as a series of equals. That is, the divine principle will give birth to an understanding of human equality. In other words, the concept promoted by Nurcholish Madjid is that all humans in terms of basic dignity and worth are the same. None of our fellow human beings has the right to undermine or dominate the dignity and value of another human being. According to him, differences are God's provisions which have implications for the teachings of monotheism itself. This article adds to the body of knowledge, especially in the study of pluralism and the field of study of religions. Keywords :

Abstract

Al-Imam is the first magazine in Persada Alam Melayu-Nusantara that promotes the renewal of Islamic thought and voices the awakening of the backwardness and stagnation of Muslims in this region in the first decade of the 20th century. The managers of Al-Imam magazine claim to be students of Sheikh al-Imam Muhammad Abduh and Rashid Ridha. Thus, in terms of spirit, material, and publishing format, Al-Imam magazine is a "duplication" and "extension" of Al-Manar magazine, which was published by Muhammad Abduh and Rashid Ridha in Cairo, Egypt, from 1898 to 1935. On this basis, the genealogy and typology of the renewal of thought voiced by Al-Imam magazine in the Malay-Nusantara region are based on and get a strong influence from the rational-progressive renewal of Islamic thought by Muhammad Abduh and Rashid Ridha, especially as stated in Al-Manar. Although Al-Imam magazine was only published for two years (1906–1908), its role and influence were very large and wide in this region. The most obvious influence of Al-Imam Magazine is seen in the publication of Al-Munir magazine by Abdullah Ahmad in Padang in 1911–1915.

Abstract

This study examines the contextualization of the term rahmah in surah ar-Rum verse 21 on the issue of childfree and childless to find a broader interpretation. This type of research is qualitative and library research, namely data collection through literature review. Then, the data obtained were analyzed using the descriptive-analysis method, namely describing the data obtained, then analyzed using Fazlur Rahman's Double Movement theory. This research resulted in the finding that childfree and childless can achieve a gracious marriage even though they do not have children because the concept and principle of mercy contained in surah Ar-Rum verse 21 has principles that not only lead to the meaning of children but also other principles, such as the principle of getting calm, peace and harmony, and abstaining from actions that are not pleasing to Allah SWT which can be applied in marriage. On the other hand, to maximize the principles of rahmah, childfree or childless couples can realize it by adopting abandoned children who do not have parents as an alternative to achieving rahmah as a whole. Keywords :

Abstract

This article aims to analyze the model of religious guidance for Muallaf and the various problems faced in the guidance process after religious conversion to Islam, especially among the Dayak tribal community of Central Kalimantan. This article is a descriptive qualitative study of the nature of a field study. The data was collected through purposive sampling, with interview and documentation techniques. The subjects of this research were employees at the Ministry of Religion, religious guides, and mentors of Muallaf. The research locations were conducted in three Central Kalimantan districts: Gunung Mas, Barito Utara and Murung Raya. This study found that the pattern or model of guidance for conversions to Islam in the three districts has yet to be carried out in an integrated and sustainable manner. These findings are based on the reality that there is a lack of funds, there is no concrete and valid data regarding the number of conversions to Islam, and there is no particular study or institution that provides structured, systematic and integrated guidance between religious ministries, counselors and existing religious institutions so that guidance is not carried out continuously, incidentally and ineffectively.

Abstract

The development of the digital economy in Indonesia has encouraged the emergence of Buy Now Pay Later (BNPL) services such as Shopee PayLater, which contribute to changes in urban consumption patterns toward more instant and consumptive behavior. This phenomenon raises questions regarding the position of such practices within the perspective of ‘urf and their conformity with the principles of fiqh muamalah. This study aims to analyze Shopee PayLater as a manifestation of consumptive ‘urf in Indonesian urban society and to assess its conformity with the principles of ‘urf in Islamic law, particularly concerning the presence of hidden riba elements in interest charges and late payment penalties. The method employed in this study is library research using a normative-juridical approach through the analysis of Islamic legal sources, including the Qur’an (QS. Al-Baqarah: 275–279), Fatwa of the National Sharia Council Indonesian Ulema Council (DSN-MUI) No. 116/DSN MUI/IX/2017, regulations issued by the Financial Services Authority (OJK), and relevant scholarly literature. The data were analyzed descriptively and qualitatively using the maqashid sharia approach and fiqhiyyah legal maxims. The results indicate that Shopee PayLater represents a new form of consumptive ‘urf that encourages impulsive and hedonistic purchasing behavior among urban communities. However, from the perspective of fiqh muamalah, this practice does not align with the principles of ‘urf shahih because it contains hidden riba elements in the form of interest of 2.95% and late payment penalties of 5%, thus it is more appropriately categorized as ‘urf fasid. This study recommends the reconstruction of BNPL contracts based on sharia principles as an alternative digital financing model that is more equitable and aligned with Islamic legal values.

Abstract

This study aims to provide an analysis of the A3B node, namely Akhlaq, the Qur'an, Academics, and Language, at SMAIT Thariq Bin Ziyad from a postmodern perspective. This article contributes to the effort to examine the relationship between Islamic ideology and integral education in the postmodern era as a critique of the modernist view that places Islamic ideology as something that is marginalized and considered as the cause of friction that occurs in the global landscape, and this context is then connected to the A3B node as a form of internalization of Islamic ideology and integral education. In its analysis, this study uses a qualitative method with an interdisciplinary approach, namely phenomenology and history, and is based on structural functional theory. The analysis in this study shows that the Akhlaq and the Qur'an Node are related to Islamic ideology that is internalized through school programs with contextual da'wa values, and the Academic and Language nodes are intertwined with integral education with a flexible and reflective curriculum model. In the context of postmodernism, the synthesis between Islamic ideology and integral education in the A3B node at SMAIT Thariq Bin Ziyad can be an alternative in the development of integral education by placing Islam as an active and contributing force to the complexity of thought and civilization in the contemporary era.

Abstract

This study aims to discuss the sociological dimensions of the dawah (Islamic proselytization) thought and practice of KH. Ahmad Zuhdianor (Guru Zuhdi) through the lens of Jürgen Habermas’s Communicative Ethics. As a charismatic religious scholar in South Kalimantan, Guru Zuhdi successfully transformed public morality through a unique and egalitarian communication pattern. Utilizing a qualitative-library research method, this study analyzes his dawah texts and documentations as primary data. The findings indicate that Guru Zuhdi’s dawah fulfills Habermas’s four validity claims (truth, truthfulness, normative correctness, and comprehensibility), which in turn fosters a domination-free 'Religious Public Sphere.' The moral transformation within the congregation is not the result of authoritative indoctrination, but rather the fruit of autonomous awareness born from fluid, humorous, and humble interactions. This study concludes that Guru Zuhdi’s transformative moral education model constitutes a tangible form of communicative action capable of dismantling social and spiritual hierarchies to achieve mutual understanding (consensus) in improving societal character.

Abstract

This study aims to conduct an in-depth examination of the implementation of the philosophical values of Rukun, Raket, Regeng, and Rumekso (4R) as the basis of social ethics within the Paguyuban Keluarga Besar Pujakesuma, a community of Javanese migrants in Sumatra. This study addresses the limited empirical research linking local values to social practices within diaspora communities. The research employs a qualitative approach using ethnographic methods, including participant observation, in-depth interviews, and document analysis. The findings reveal that the value of Rukun functions as a normative mechanism for maintaining harmony through consensus-based deliberation; Raket strengthens affective cohesion through intense interpersonal relationships; Regeng manifests in social solidarity practices rooted in collective action; while Rumekso serves as an ethical foundation for fostering empathy and social sensitivity. These four values operate not only as cultural symbols but also as an adaptive value system in responding to the dynamics of life in the diaspora community. Their implementation has proven capable of strengthening social cohesion, increasing collective participation, and maintaining the sustainability of cultural identity. Thus, this study offers conceptual and empirical contributions to enriching the study of cultural sociology, particularly regarding the transformation of local values in the context of contemporary society.

Abstract

Local traditions are an important part of community life, serving not only as cultural practices but also embodying profound religious values. Amid the tide of globalization, the meanings of various traditions are shifting, making scientific research necessary to understand the spiritual values they contain. One tradition that is still preserved is the malapeh kawua padi among the Koto people in Jorong Garagah, Nagari Simpang, Pasaman Regency, which is performed as an expression of gratitude to Allah is Most Holy and Most High for the harvest. This study aims to examine the theological meaning within this tradition. The method used is a qualitative approach with an ethnographic research design, analyzed using contextual theology theory. Data were collected through observation, interviews, and documentation of the community involved in the practice of the tradition. The results of the study indicate that the “malapeh kawua padi” is not merely a customary practice but also contains profound theological significance. Elements such as prayer, vows, animal sacrifice, and communal eating reflect gratitude and humanity’s dependence on Allah is Most Holy and Most High. Through a contextual theology approach, it can be understood that the values of faith among the Koto people are integrated into social and cultural practices, making this tradition a form of religious expression in daily life.
