Abstract

Polypharmacy is one of the risk factors for potential drug interactions that can cause unwanted drug reactions and can also increase the risk to pediatric patients. This study aims to see if there is a relationship between polypharmacy and the incidence of drug interactions in pediatric inpatient prescriptions that will be carried out at Embung Fatimah Regional General Hospital, Batam City. This study uses a cross-sectional method, an observational research design conducted to determine the relationship between polypharmacy as the independent variable and the incidence of drug interactions as the dependent variable, with measurements taken at a single point in time. The target population to be studied is the total number of inpatient pediatric prescriptions at Embung Fatimah Hospital as many as 440 prescriptions. The sample used in this study was taken from the affordable population with inclusion and exclusion criteria. Polypharmacy prescriptions for pediatric inpatients at Embung Fatimah Regional General Hospital (RSUD) Batam City based on the results of research from a total of 168 prescriptions there were 123 (73.2%) polypharmacy prescriptions and 45 non-polypharmacy prescriptions. Drug interactions in pediatric inpatient prescriptions at the Regional General Hospital (RSUD) Embung Fatimah Batam City based on the results of the study from a total of 168 prescriptions there were 44 prescriptions experiencing drug interactions and 124 did not experience drug interactions. There is a significant relationship between polypharmacy and the incidence of drug interactions in pediatric inpatients at Embung Fatimah Regional General Hospital (RSUD) Batam City. The Chi-Square test resulted in a P-value ≤ 0.05, indicating that the null hypothesis (H₀), which states that there is no relationship between polypharmacy and drug interactions, is rejected. Consequently, the alternative hypothesis (H₁), which states that polypharmacy is significantly associated with the incidence of drug interactions, is accepted.

Abstract

Hypertension is an increase in a person's blood pressure above normal, namely systolic and diastolic blood pressure ≥140/90 mmHg. Rational use of medication can describe the health quality of hypertensive patients based on the parameters of the right indication, the right patient, the right drug and the right dose. The study aimed to determine the relationship between the rationality of using antihypertensive drugs and clinical outcomes in hypertensive patients who were hospitalized at PKU Muhammadiyah Gamping Hospital. The research method is non-experimental analytical with retrospective data collection using purposive sampling for data from January 2021-March 2024 with a sample size of 63 patients. The research results showed that the rationality of using antihypertensive drugs was based on an indication accuracy of 100%, patient accuracy of 100%, appropriate medication of 84.13% and dose suitability of 96.83%. Patients who received rational antihypertensive medication were 80.95% (51 patients) and 32 patients (50.79%) showed that blood pressure was achieved. Data analysis in research uses the Chi-Square test. The results of the Chi-square test obtained a p value = 0.096>0.05 so there is no relationship between the rationality of using antihypertensive drugs and clinical outcomes.

Abstract

The prevalence of hypertension in Indonesia is still quite high. One of the causes of the high incidence of hypertension is patient’s nonadherence in their treatment, such as forgetting to take medication. The patient's medication adherence determines the success of hypertension therapy. AD-Pharm Hypertension Mobile Health Application contains several features, one of which is a reminder to remind patients to take medication. The purpose of this study was to determine the effect of the AD-Pharm Hypertension Mobile Health Application on the level of medication adherence of hypertension patients in 4 public health centers in Yogyakarta.  This research method is a quasi-experimental pre-post design with a control group. The sampling technique was consecutive sampling involving 100 respondents, of which 50 respondents were the control group and 50 were the intervention group. The intervention that is given is AD-Pharm hypertension mobile health application. Data were collected using the MARS-5 questionnaire which were analyzed using Mann Whitney test and the Wilcoxon test. The results of the analysis showed that there was a significant difference (p=0.001) of medication adherence between the pre and post-test of the intervention group from 23.96±1.525 to 24.46±1. While in the control group there was no significant difference (p=0.059), from 24.04±1.142 (pre-test) to 24.16±0.976 (post-test). Based on the results of this study, it can be concluded that there is a significant effect on the use of AD-Pharm Hypertension Mobile Health Application on the level of medication adherence of hypertension patients.

Abstract

People often practice self-medication for common illnesses, using modern or traditional medicines without a doctor’s prescription. Pain, a sensation signaling tissue damage, is a common reason for self-medication. This study examines the relationship between knowledge levels and rational self-medication behavior for pain in Toribulu sub-district, Parigi Moutong Regency, Central Sulawesi. Using a descriptive approach, data were collected through purposive sampling. Questionnaires, tested for validity and reliability, were distributed to 391 respondents meeting inclusion criteria. Data analysis employed SPSS 23 with the Spearman correlation test. Results show 43.5% of respondents had high knowledge levels, 36.6% had sufficient levels, and 19.9% had poor levels. Regarding self-medication behavior, 60.1% displayed good behavior, 39.9% moderate behavior, and none poor behavior. The Spearman test revealed a significant but weak positive correlation (ρ-value = .000; correlation coefficient = .244) between knowledge levels and self-medication behavior. This indicates that while higher knowledge correlates with better behavior, its influence is minimal in improving self-medication practices within the community.
