Abstract

The purpose of this research is to express cultural values and advantages reflected in Silasa I (title of a book of Buginese ancestors’ moral advices). Originally, these advices were only spoken verbally by older people. The type of oral literature is stillalive among the Buginese community. The advices have been mostly inventoried. However, the studies on these advices in Silasa I have not been sufficiently done and met expectations of Buginese literature observers yet. The data of this research are collected through library research and field study. The results indicate that there arecultural values in Silasa; (1) honesty, (2) the nature of envy, bravery, cowardness, and(3) responsibility. Abstract

This study discusses about bound morpheme in Banjarese language. The problems in the research include 1) the forms of bound morphemes of prefix, 2)the forms of bound morphemes of suffix, 3) the forms of bound morphemes of infix, and 4) the forms of bound morphemes of simulfix. The method used in this research is qualitative-descriptive method. The research concludes that the forms and the meanings of the prefix of Banjarese language consists of prefixes Ka'ke ‘, the prefix ma’ me ‘pa’ pe ‘ba’ air ‘, sa'di 'sa’ se ‘and ta’ ter ‘ , ta prefix ‘ter’. Suffix or suffixes exist in the language consisted of an suffix ‘an’, the suffix i ‘i’. will be ‘right’, and his ‘it’. Konfiks exist or a combination comprising, konfiks to an ‘all-an’, ba-an ‘air-an’, par-will, at its ‘as-is’, ‘se-an’. Next, Infix or insert language Banjarese consists of, al ‘el and am’ em ‘.

Abstract

Language selection is a phenomenon that is common in multilingual societies. By taking the case of Bugis ethnic language selection in the family domain based on the relationship of roles and occupation categories in Donggala District, this study aims to (1) describe the pattern of Bugis ethnic language selection in the family sphere by occupation category and role relations in Donggala District, (2) to describe the influence of work on Bugis ethnic language election in Donggala District and (3) to analyze the factors underlying the selection of Bugis ethnic languages ​​in the family sphere by occupation category and role relations in Donggala District. The method used is a sociolinguistic approach with questionnaires, interviews, observations, and recording techniques, then analyzed based on the percentage pattern of Bugis ethnic language selection in the family realm. The result of the analysis shows that Bugis ethnic in Donggala Regency still dominantly choose Bugis language as communication tool in family domain based on the relation of role and occupation category. Respondents who work as civil servants / military / police and students who have a lower percentage in Bugisnya language electives.

Abstract

This study aims to describe the use of metaphors of flood, earthquake, and volcanic eruption and how they reflect the people’s mindset on one of natural disasters. This isa qualitative research. The data presented are obtained through observation of the use of metaphoric words of flood, earthquake, and volcanic eruption on television andinternet from January to March 2013. The data are then analyzed by using metaphor and anthropological linguistic theory. The results of research show that the uses ofmetaphors of flood, earthquake, and mount eruption have been mostly used in news.One example is indicated in news report “flood paralyzed capital streets, volcanic eruption had killed many victims and earthquake destroyed several old buildings.Flood, volcanic eruption, and earthquake are likened to living things that can cause avariety of disadvantages, namely crippling, killing, and destroying buildings”. Viewed from the practical use of metaphor in society, the uses of metaphors of natural disasters (flood, volcanic eruption, and earthquake) reflect the tremendous effect ofwhich on people's lives, so that they are identically related to the losses in people'slives.

Abstract

Koloncucu language is one of the regional languages ​​in North Maluku belonging to the category of extinct languages ​​(moribund languages), because it has a very small number of speakers. Within a few decades, this language will completely disappear with the speaker. Scientific data on this language has not been done. This paper aims to describe the form and classification of consonants in Koloncucu language, as one of the efforts to preserve local languages. This research uses descriptive method with three stages, namely data supply stage, data analysis phase, and presentation stage of data analysis. Data analysis is done after the data classification process is then applied using the agih method with the technique for the direct element. The results of this paper are the form and classification of consonants in Koloncucu language, namely: the consonant of the larup (Stops, Plosives), nasal consonants (Nasals), side consonants (Laterals), fricative, fristions consonants, vibrating consonants (Trills, Vibrants), and semi vocals. While the touch consonants (Tap), strong touch consonants (Flap), and consonant alloys (Affricates) are not found in Koloncucu.

Abstract

This study addresses the issue of oral literature Banjar tatangar function with the aim to describe the function of oral literature Banjar tatangar. The theory used is the theory of William R. Bascom. The method used in this research is descriptive qualitative method. Techniques of collecting data are the documentation, recordings, and interviews. Furthermore, in the technique of data analysis used descriptive analysis, by analyzing one by one tatangar accordance with its function. Sources of data used in this study: (1) primary data, namely informants in the field as many as three people were categorized as oral literature Banjar tatangar speakers residing in Hulu Sungai Selatan, Hulu Sungai Tengah and Hulu Sungai Utara; and (2) secondary data, ie data obtained from the complement existing research related to the study of oral literature Banjar tatangar. Based on the analysis found four functions Banjar tatangar oral literature, namely: (1) tatangar function as a form of entertainment; (2) functions as an instrument of ratification tatangar institutions and cultural institutions; (3) tatangar function as an educational tool children; and (4) tatangar function as a means of coercion and supervisors so that society's norms will be respected member of the collective

Abstract

This research investigates the interference which exist in short stories written by the students of SMPN 2 Merbau Mataram, South Lampung Selatan. The problems investigated are the kinds of interference existing in the short stories and the factors which couse the interference in these short stories. The use of Indonesian in the short stories is the fact mixed with foreign languages (English), slang word, local languages. This interference occurs in morphological, lexical, and syntactical levels. From 40 short stories being investigated, there are 35 short stories in which the case of interference. There are only 5 short stories in which the case of interferences is not found. In these numbers are made into percentage, in total the percentage of short stories containing interference is 87,5% and the ones which are do not contain the interference is 12,5%. The interference is caused by some factors, they are: the bilingualism of the student, boredom, prestige, avoiding unnatural phrases, the vocabularies are considered shorter compared to their equivalents in Indonesian, and the vocabularies do not have equivalents in Indonesia.

Abstract

This research aims at analyzing the history and fiction in two novels by Kwee Tek Hoay. The researcher searches for some information from library and website resources to support this research. Specifically, the researcher searches for library resources containing information about the literature of Chinese Malay. The researcher analyzes Atsal Mulahnya Timbul Pergerakan Tionghoa and Berkahnya Malaise by using qualitative method. Bassically, the two novels present the history,i.e. Malaise event on Berkahnya Malaise and the origin of Hwee Koan community movement on Atsal Mulahnya Timbul Pergerakan Tionghoa. However, there is afiction appeared from author’s idea on the two novels. The idea comes in the form of communication presented between literature and the readers.

Abstract

The purpose of this research is to describe the segmental phonemes of Kanum Barkari language. This language is located at territorial border between Indonesia and Papua New Guini. Kanum Barkari language is one of vernacular language spoken by peoplein Kondo village at Merauke Regency, Papua. This research uses descriptive method by using three stages; collecting, analyzing, and presenting data. Data analysis has been done after the collected data is classified. The analysis uses a distributional method. The results show that Kanum Barkari language has 16 consonant phonemes,namely, /p/, /b/, /t/, /d/, /j/, /k/, /g/, /m/, /n/, /ŋ/, /l/, /s/, /r/, /h/, /w/, /y/ and 6 vowel phonemes, /a/, /i/, /u/, /e/, /є/, dan /o/.

Abstract

This research focuses on Makassar-Malay language, Buginese language, and Mandar language. Those three languages share similarity and difference from phonological overview indicating the languages originated from the same proto language and have a close kinship. Generally, this research gives some information about Makassar-Malay, Buginese, and Mandar languages for the research of comparative historical linguistics in Indonesia, and specifically the research analyze the phonemic correspondence among the three languages.The data are analyzed by using qualitative approach with the method of comparison. This method aims to determine the sound nature (sound correspondence) of 250 basic vocabularies of Makassar-Malay language, Buginese language, and Mandar language which have the same meaning (one gloss). If there is more than oneword in the glosses (synonym) of one language so the word which is taken as the data in this study is the word that has the same form or similar with its proto language.The technique used is phonemic correspondence device determination and correspondence formula determination. Of 250 glosses selected, 105 glosses have phonemic correspondence. The correspondence which have been found through this research are /ә ~ a/, /a ~ ә/, /u ~ɔ/, and /b ~ w/. Besides, It can be known that Makassar Malay language is closer related to Mandar language than Bugis language.
