Abstract

This study analyzes the poetry of Qays ibn al-Mulawwaḥ to reconsider the notion of madness traditionally attributed to him. Rather than a psychological disorder or a reflection of biographical narratives, madness is shown to function as a cognitive-emotional structure produced through poetic language. Drawing on conceptual metaphor theory, force dynamics, and cognitive grammar, the study demonstrates how imagery, grammatical organization, and embodied patterns construct experiences of longing, alienation, and emotional turbulence, revealing madness as a linguistically structured mode of emotional and cognitive experience in early Arabic poetry.

Abstract

This research aims to reveal the spiritual symbolism and ecological views in “Ngalaksa” mantram as an oral tradition of the Sundanese community in Rancakalong, Sumedang. Using a qualitative approach with a case study design and focused ethnographic analysis, this study examines the linguistic structure, symbolic meanings, and ecological functions of teks mantra used in various ritual stages such as “Jampé Nutu, Jampé Nginebkeun, Jampé Ngukus, and Jampé Ngibing.” The results show that each jampé functions as a prayer and a medium for spiritual communication as well as an ecological text containing environmental ethics and local wisdom values. Lexical elements such as menyan putih, talaga suci, bayu, bumi, and rasa reflect the ecological awareness of the Sundanese agrarian society who view nature as a living and sacred entity. “Ngalaksa” mantram also plays a role in maintaining cosmic balance, strengthening cultural identity, and becoming a medium for transmitting spiritual and ecological values across generations.

Abstract

This study aims to identify and analyze sociolects found in the film Uang Panai’ 2 Maha(L)R and to examine their relevance to Indonesian language learning based on local wisdom. A qualitative descriptive approach was employed, with film dialogues serving as the primary data source, collected through viewing and note-taking techniques. Data were analyzed using an interactive model consisting of data reduction, data presentation, and conclusion drawing. The findings reveal four factors influencing the use of sociolects in the film: speakers’ age, employment status, educational level, and socioeconomic class. Age differences emerge as the most dominant factor, reflected in forms of address and diction that indicate hierarchical relations and politeness in intergenerational interactions. Employment status is characterized by technical vocabulary and professional communication styles, while educational level is marked by the use of formal and academic language. Socioeconomic class is manifested through code-mixing and lexical choices that signal social status. The study concludes that film dialogues can function as contextual learning resources for teaching language variation, linguistic politeness, and local cultural values in Indonesian language education.

Abstract

Writing instruction in Indonesian language classrooms frequently encounters obstacles, particularly because many learners find it difficult to structure and develop ideas coherently in written form. This research investigated whether the reflective–critical writing model could effectively improve students’ ability to compose expository texts. A pre-test and post-test design was used in a quasi-experimental manner. The participants were 88 tenth-grade students who were evenly assigned to an experimental group and a control group. Instruction for the experimental group was delivered through the reflective–critical writing model, whereas the control group received traditional teaching methods, including lectures and question-and-answer activities. Data analysis was conducted using paired-sample and independent-sample t-tests, followed by an effect size calculation employing Cohen’s d. There was a substantial difference between the two groups, according to the statistical findings (p = 0.000). The experimental group demonstrated a strong effect size (d = 1.690), while the control group showed a more moderate effect (d = 0.636). These findings indicate that the reflective–critical writing model is highly effective in strengthening students’ expository writing skills. Consequently, this model is recommended for implementation in other instructional settings with comparable student profiles to promote active learning and improve overall academic achievement.

Abstract

Folktales about water sources in Klaten have not been widely accessed, causing values related to environmental conservation and water sustainability to be insufficiently conveyed. The purpose of this research is to inquire into the ecological knowledge contained in Klaten folktales about water sources and how they might be used to teach Indonesian language skills to junior high school students. This study takes an ethnographic approach to its qualitative descriptive methodology. Water sources and associated folktales were the focus of the research in six subdistricts of Klaten. Using purposive and snowball sampling approaches, data was collected from a variety of sources, including village leaders, cultural figures, local citizens, and relevant authorities. Triangulation of methods and sources was used to verify the data collected from in-depth interviews. An interactive model was used for data analysis. A number of ecological wisdom principles, including cosmic solidarity, concern for nature, environmental preservation, justice, and moral integrity, are included in the folktales, according to the research. The dominant ecological wisdom value is the principle of living simply and in harmony with nature, as manifested in the story of Roro Amis, who sailed on a banana trunk, and Prince Sidotopo, who played the traditional game nglarak blarak.
