Abstract

This research aimed to study the effect of microclimate modification of pensby misting and the goats breeds (Boer and Ettawa crossbreeds) on physiological responses to adapt to the hot  environments. The study was conducted from August-September 2018 at the UPTD Goat Breeding Center, Lampung Plantation and Livestock Service Office located in Negeri Sakti, Pesawaran Regency. The study used a split plot design in completely randomized design. Two treatments were applied in this study, namely modification of the pen consisting of pens without misting and pens with misting and the goat breed namely Boerawa and Ettawa crossbreed (PE). Twelve female goats were used in this study, each of six Boerawa and PE respectively. The parameters observed were microclimate conditions, namely air temperature, relative humidity, and Temperature Humidity Index (THI) and physiological responses consisted of respiration rate, heart rate, rectal temperature, and Heat Tolerance Coefficient (HTC). The results showed that there was no effect of the interaction between the treatment of misting and the breeds of goat on respiration rate, heart rate, rectal temperature, and HTC. Misting can improve air temperature, THI, respiration rate and HTC, on the other hand, does not affect the heart rate and rectal temperature. Goat breed has no effect on all physiological responses. Thus, modification of the microclimate by misting effectively maintains body temperature under normal conditions and increases the adaptability of goats to hot environments. Keywords: Physiological Responses, Microclimate Conditions, Microclimate Modification, Misting

Abstract

Oil palm ribs plantations are less utilized. This is due to stem oil is tough stems, leaf  spiked, and contains a stick that has a low digestibility values. The low digestibility is caused by the bonds between lignin and carbohydrates that can not be utilized by ruminants. Utilization of oil palm ribs as feed material is still limited because of the high lignin content of the low digestibility, requiring the application of technology to improve the nutritional value and digestibility of the stem oil. One way to do this is with the addition of urea, fungi Phanerochaete chrysosporium and Trametes sp into the oil palm ribs. The aim of this research is to know the proximate content and the best oil palm ribs processing as the result of the adding or urea, Phanerochaete crysosporium, and Trametes sp. to the content of ash, protein, fat, and NNE (Non Nitrogen Extract).  This trial used Completly Rondomizes Design (CRD) with 3 replications.  The data obtained was analized by using varience analysis on the test level of 5% or 1%, then continued by Least Significant Different (LSD).  The best treatment on this trial was the fermentation of oil palm ribs + Trametes sp.   Keywords: oil palm ribs, Lignin, Urea, Phanerochete chrysosporium, Trametes sp.

Abstract

Estimated Real Producing Ability (ERPA) value are maximally estimated of the ability of mother doe, which is allegedly based onexisting perfomans. Producing ability for production capability of an animal which is closelyrelated with the value of Repeatability, the average production, many production records, and the averageproduction within a population. Calculations of ERPA are entering information such asthe average mother inkidbirth production which compared with the average of herdmate production. Herdmate are all parents within thesame farm, who had kidbirth in the same relative time, but not the half? brother of a father. The research was conducted on May 2013 until June 2013 in Sungai Langka village, Subdistrict Gedong Tataan,Pesawaran District. This research using a survey method by analyzing production records the birth of the first andsecond of the 30 samples of doe Etawah crossbreed. Analysis was performed by searching for weaning weightcorrected, the estimated value Repeatability and the value of ERPA weaning weight in Margarini farmer groupsgoat. The result said that the average of corection weaning weight PE goat is 19,48±1,47 kg. The value of repeatabilityweaning weight PE Goat gotten in the research is 0,57 and the average of value ERPA weaning weight PE goat is19,84±1,067 kg. Abstract

Weight loss due stres during transportation had become economic defect on livestock business. According to this situation, an operational research using 136 cattle were held to evaluated effect of vitamin C treatment since the capability of vitamin C to reduced stres. There are 68 heads which is oral treated using 500 mg vitamin C and 68 control,  respectively. Observation were done on May-August 2014, during cattle transportation from Karang Endah Sub district, Lampung Tengah Municipal, Lampung Province to Palembang, Sumatera Selatan Province. Transportation repeated 6 times using trucks consist of half treated, which has odd tag, and control cattle. Cattle weighing were done before and after transportation, while data analyzed using t-test. Observation showed that the weight lost difference between treated (10,15%)  and control (9,74%) is 0,41% (P<0,05). Result also showed that vitamin C could saving of Rp.647.595,00/truck/ transportation.
