Abstract

Motivation is still taken into consideration when ones apply to a minor in a study program with limited seats. The present study explores students’ motivational dimensions for choosing Japanese language stream which has limited quota in an Indonesian vocational college. Based on responses from 43 first-year students choosing Japanese stream, it was found that ‘personal goals’ dominated the list of motivational dimensions. In contrast, no student expressed ‘external pressures/incentives’ as their motivation. Following screening process conducted by the study program, ‘personal goals’ maintained its position as the most frequently expressed motivation. Moreover, ‘academic interests’ appeared as the motivational dimension which did not change in number following screening process. These results demonstrate the attraction of the internship program in Japan promoted by the study program in recent years.

Abstract

Abstract

This research examines errors in the use of particles in embedded clauses made by second semester students at the UDINUS Japanese Literature Study Program in the Writing Popular Japanese Articles class. The author considers that discussing this matter is very important considering that the ability to understand this embedded clause will be applied to the ability to speak, write, read and also translate. Apart from that, the ability to understand embedded clauses will support success in working on Reading questions on the Japanese JLPT test. The research method used is descriptive qualitative with a syntactic approach and interpretative techniques. The mistake students generally make is that it is still difficult to understand the use of the "ga" particle as a subject marker in embedded clauses. This research uses a qualitative descriptive analysis method with a syntactic approach and interpretative techniques.

Abstract

The aim of this research is to find out whether the application of the Project-based Learning (PjBL) model can increase creativity in writing Japanese essays in the Sakubun course. The problem to be investigated in this research is related to improving the ability to write essays in Japanese with students' creativity in composing Japanese sentences. The form of research used is an experimental equation with a pretest – post-test design, namely by measuring how much influence one variable has on another variable. To measure the ability to write Japanese essays, this is done through tests, questionnaires and observations. The data analysis technique used in this research is a form of quantitative data analysis which is carried out to analyze data obtained from implementing the Project-Based Learning (PjBL) learning model by carrying out normality tests, homogeneity tests. Next, the results of the two tests are used to test the effectiveness of the learning model applied.

Abstract

Ono Saseo was a Japanese cartoonist who was recruited as a member of the Japanese Army's Propaganda Division and sent to Java from 1942 to 1945. During his service in Indonesia, he created hundreds of artworks for both military and personal purposes. The purpose of this research is to understand Ono Saseo's views and humanistic values towards the Indonesian people. The research method used is qualitative research, examining Ono Saseo's writings and drawings to uncover the meanings contained within. Additionally, the researcher also examined the opinions of other artist who lived during the same period as Ono Saseo to gain a clearer depiction of Ono. The results of the research show that not all of Ono's drawings published in the Japanese mass media in Indonesia depict elements of Japanese foreign political conflicts against the West, but rather, most of them portray the joyful atmosphere and the harmony of the Indonesian people and Western. Ono's significant attention to the Indonesian society, natural environment, and other nations residing in Indonesia demonstrates his deep humanistic side, both as an intellectual and as a human being.

Abstract

The Kagura dance is a sacred, theatrical dance to entertain the Shinto gods. In several areas, including the city of Matsumae, Hokkaido island, this dance is threatened with extinction due to a lack of the next generation. Using an ethnographic approach, this research aims to describe the development of the Kagura dance and efforts to revitalize the dance amidst the aging society phenomenon that has hit Japan. The data collection techniques used were observation and in-depth interviews. Researchers observed the preparation process for the dance festival for six months and conducted interviews with Shinto priests, local Education and Culture Service employees, and hotel employees to gather data. The research results show that the potential extinction of the Kagura dance is mainly caused by the reduction in the young population because most of the population urbanizes to study and work in big cities. The revitalization strategy that has been carried out is  establishing  the  Kagura  Matsumae  preservation body which oversees the Matsumae shrine, the Kagura Kiyobe Preservation Society, the Haraguchi Preservation Society, and teaching the locality of Matsumae City from elementary to middle school students. The effort has a positive impact on student's awareness of preserving Kagura dance. Some students have joined and become the main members of the Kagura Preservation Body. Since the majority of people moved to the urban areas, the revitalization effort has not been completely successful. However, it can be seen that the city government's awareness and efforts are very high to maintain traditional culture.

The purpose of this research is to explain the relationship between grammatical cohesion markers and lexical cohesion in advertising discourse that can support the formation of coherence. The data used comes from the Canmake Tokyo Japan advertisement. The data collection method used is the listening method with the basic technique, namely the tapping technique and the note-taking technique as a follow-up technique. The data analysis stage uses the commensurate method with the technique of sorting the determining elements (PUP). While the results of data analysis are presented using informal methods. Based on the results of data analysis, it can be seen that the cosmetic advertisements from Canmake Tokyo contain grammatical cohesion markers and lexical cohesion. Based on the appropriate use of cohesion markers, it can be seen that the discourse of Canmake Tokyo cosmetic advertisements is a discourse of coherence. The most common grammatical cohesion markers are reference and conjunction. While the most lexical cohesion markers found are repetition and synonyms.
