Abstract

Wonosobo Regency is the district with the highest poverty rate in Central Java, reaching 17.58% in 2018. Based on the FSVA map, there are nine sub-districts in Wonosobo Regency with food security criteria (priority 5). The Food Independent Village Program is one of the critical interventions in poverty alleviation and increasing food security. The aims of this research are: 1) to describe socialization and training, mentoring, institutional growth, member participation, the commitment of policymakers, agricultural production, and household food security in Wonosobo Regency; 2) to analyze the influence between socialization and training, mentoring, institutional growth. The research was conducted using a quantitative approach with a survey method. The research location was determined based on consideration of the high poverty level, the condition of food security and vulnerability, and the location of the DMP program village. Sampling was carried out on 118 household heads receiving the DMP program in Reco Village and Kapencar Village. Data was collected based on interviews using questionnaires and observations. The Linkert scale measures variables using: strongly disagree, disagree, undecided, agree, and strongly agree. Descriptive analysis was used to examine respondents' responses to the variables of socialization and training, mentoring, institutional growth, member participation, the commitment of policymakers, agricultural production, and household food security. Based on descriptive analysis, respondents gave responses with high categories for the variables of training socialization, mentoring, institutional growth, member participation, and commitment of policymakers, agricultural production, and household food security. The inner study of the SEM analysis model of the PLS method stated that the variables of socialization and training, mentoring, institutional growth, member participation, and commitment of policymakers had a significant effect on agricultural production. Furthermore, socialization, training, and institutional development significantly impact food security. Still, the variable of assistance, member participation, and policymakers' commitment does not significantly affect food security.

Abstract

Organic vegetables produced by aquaponic cultivation are exclusive vegetables with many benefits, so don't be surprised if they are more expensive than ordinary vegetables. PT. Tani Kota is one of the companies engaged in agribusiness with aquaponic cultivation techniques with the Nutrient Film Technique (NFT) system. PT. Tanikota has not carried out farming calculations using precise and detailed accounting technology; currently, in calculating costs and income, it is still conventional, not using the software, so it is not known whether farming is efficient. This study aimed to analyze the level of income and the break-even point (BEP) of lettuce and tilapia farming aquaponics with the Nutrient Film Technique (NFT) system. The research method used is a case study at PT. Tanikota. The analysis used in this research is the analysis of farm income and Break-Even Point (BEP). This study indicates that the income from lettuce farming is Rp. 14,958,510,81 and tilapia, which is Rp. 2,752,360.81 per one aquaponic growing season. The break-even point analysis (BEP) results showed that the BEP of lettuce production volume was 85,463 kg and tilapia was 109,230 kg. BEP sales of lettuce are Rp. 4,358,579,630 and tilapia is Rp. 5,734,620.56. This means that the production and sales pass the break-even point, which means that aquaponic lettuce and tilapia farming is profitable or feasible

Abstract

This study aims to analyze the development potential of dairy cows and the relationship of social, economic, and technical factors with milk production in the city of Semarang. The research was conducted by survey method. Two districts with the highest dairy cattle population were selected to determine the location, namely Gunungpati and Mijen Districts. Sampling was carried out by simple random sampling of 65 farmers. The data obtained were analyzed using Location Quotient (LQ) and Dynamic Location Quotient (DLQ) methods to see the potential for dairy cattle development. Spearman rank correlation analysis was used to determine the relationship between social, economic, and technical factors (age of breeder, the experience of raising livestock, education level, number of lactating cows, the month of lactation, forage feed, and concentrate feed) to milk production. The results showed that the Districts of Gunungpati and Mijen had LQ values of 1.649 and 0.926, respectively, and DLQs of 1.0329 and 1.0327. It can be interpreted that Gunungpati District is the base area and the criteria for excellence, while Mijen District is the non-basic area and the mainstay criteria. The relationship of various social, economic, and technical factors showed that the age of the breeder, the number of lactating cows, forage feed, and concentrate feed had a solid relationship (P<0.01) on milk production. While the experience of raising livestock, education level, and months of lactation did not have a significant relationship (P>0.05) on milk production. These results concluded that the two research areas still have the potential to be developed, and technical factors have an essential role in increasing milk production.

Abstract

The phenomenon of aging farmers has received severe concern in many countries due to its adverse impact on agricultural productivity. Therefore it is essential to investigate the determinants of farmer regeneration.  This study aims to analyze the effect of parents' landholding, education, motor vehicle ownership, and parents' desire on rural youth's interest in becoming farmers. This study is different from the previous ones by adding parents’ desire for their children to become a farmer as a new independent variable. The population of this study consists of rural youth aged 15-24 years whose parents are farmers. Cluster sampling was used to select 44 respondents. The data was then analyzed by multiple linear regression. The results show that parents’ landholding and parents’ desire that their children become farmers have a positive effect, education has a negative impact, and ownership of motor vehicles indicates no effect on the interest of youth to become farmers. These results imply that to increase the interest of the rural child to become farmers, the welfare aspect is a crucial consideration. Therefore, government, schools, and parents need to emphasize understanding the strategic role of agriculture in the economy and make it a promising source of livelihood.
