Abstract

All this time empowerment to farmers has been carried out through organizational approaches from the government, academics, and NGOs based on examples of programs that have been successful in advanced regions. Meanwhile, the Muhammadiyah community organization carries out the dawah activities through empowerment programs in one of the underdeveloped villages in the Paseh District. Therefore, it is necessary to know the success level of empowerment programs according to participation level related to the farmers’ background as information for designing the implementation of more successful empowerment programs. The research method of this study based on the classification was quantitative research with a survey approach through non-probability questionnaires collected to 37 farmers that were then analyzed using percentage technique and Pearson’s chi-square. The percentage calculation shows that farmer participation level was in the medium category. Results of Pearson’s chi-square and correlation tests using gamma show that the experience of farmers in partnership has a positive correlation to socialization activities. The involvement of farmers in the community organization has a positive correlation to socialization and training activities. The community organization’s attitudes towards farmers have a positive correlation to coaching activities. The farmers’ age has a negative correlation, while the length of farming, the cultivated land status, the experience of farmers participating in socialization, the experience of farmers participating in training, and community organization’s attitudes for the farmers has a positive correlation to partnership activities in empowerment programs. Muhammadiyah community organization should synergize with the government and other institutions for implementing empowerment programs by reviewing farmers’ backgrounds to reach high participation.

Abstract

Chili production in Indonesia is increasing accumulatively, although the increase is not in such a large percentage. Generally, chili farming in Indonesia is a small-scale agricultural business on land use. The same applies to agricultural activities in Pakem Subdistrict of Sleman Regency. This research aimed to (1) determine the factors that affect chili production in Pakem Subdistrict of Sleman Regency, (2) determine the allocative efficiency of chili production factor in Pakem Subdistrict of Sleman Regency. The number of respondents selected in this study was 60 farmers. The research method uses Cobb-Douglas function analysis and allocative efficiency analysis. The results showed that land area factors and experience of farmers negatively affected the production of red chili. While the production factors of seeds, manure, insecticides, and labor positively affected chili production in Pakem Subdistrict. The allocative efficiency of the use of production factors indicates that the widespread use of land is inefficient while seeds, manure, insecticides, and labor are not yet efficient.

Abstract

Covid-19 has drastically changed the learning system in almost all universities in Indonesia.Learning online systems lead to increased expenses for buying internet packages and is thought to have an impact on the food and non-food consumption patterns of students. This research evaluates the consumption behavior of the Politani payakumbuh’s Student College in the context of Covid-19 emergence. The data collection technique used was simple random sampling. Data collection was carried out during July-September 2020, using an online questionnaire, distributed via Whatsapp group. Quantitative descriptive data analysis approach to 474 respondents is obtained, who have filled out the questionnaire. Two respondents have been excluded because the data is incomplete. The results of the study stated that the Covid-19 pandemic had an impact on decreasing parental income (85%) and then followed by a reduction in student's monthly allowance (98,5%). The decrease in the monthly student allowance was allegedly due to a decrease in the parents' income. Percentage of students' average monthly allowance at intervals > IDR 500,000 decreased from 42% to 31%. This decrease in student income has an impact on changes in food and non-food consumption patterns. The percentage of food (food, drinks, and snacks) expenditure incline to fall, while non-food expenditure, especially communication costs, rose quite sharply (83%). This research also contributes to supporting the existence of Keynes's classical assumption theory. Practically this study can be used as input for the government in implementing effective learning policies in the New Normal Era.
