Abstract

In stanzas thirteen to fifteen of the Kakawin Negarakertagama, the regional terms "Nusantara" and "Mitreka Satata" are mentioned. Written by Pu Prapanca, the manuscript clearly elucidates the meanings and distinctions between these terms. Notably, the term "Nusantara" was already known during the Singhasari era, as evidenced by its appearance in the Camundi inscription under the name "Dwipantara." However, there remains considerable ambiguity and frequent misinterpretations regarding these terms, with some even conflating them. This research aims to clarify the meanings of "Nusantara" and "Mitreka Satata" and to delineate their differences. Additionally, the study explores the historical contexts and nuances associated with each term. This study employs historical methods with a philological approach, examining inscriptions, statues, and manuscripts categorized as artifacts. The results of this study shed light on the foreign policy of Majapahit as a state. The concept of territorial division was adopted by kingdoms on the island of Java and has been developing since ancient Javanese times. This concept was adhered to even during the Islamic Mataram era and the period of colonialism.

Abstract

This article examines the development of maritime transportation in the Seribu Islands community concerning crossing locations and types of ships. The development of marine transportation in Seribu Island has impacted the local community since 1996. The research implemented the historical method to describe the impact of the development of the Seribu Island Port on the surrounding community and the community around Kali Adem Dock. Passenger ship crossing activities at Muara Angke Fishing Port are not very conducive because of its location adjacent to fishing activities. Ships used for transportation activities in the Seribu Island are still not seaworthy, obstructing crossing activities. As one of the icons of the capital city, the Seribu Island still needs a specific passenger ferry port. Therefore, the government has officiated Kali Adem Dock as a particular port of passenger for the Seribu Island, which is located west of Muara Angke Fishing Port. The construction of Kali Adem Dock has improved the welfare of the people of the Seribu Island. In its development, the activities in Kali Adem Dock caused several obstacles, such as rob, traffic jams, and decreased income for traders around Kali Adem Dock.

Abstract

Indonesia's strategic geopolitical position, bridging two continents and two oceans, includes vital straits used by numerous foreign ships along the Indonesian Archipelago Sea Route (ALKI). Its strategic importance poses significant defense and maritime security challenges. To address these, President Joko Widodo has enhanced the Navy's role by leveraging the Indonesian defense industry to position Indonesia as a global maritime axis. PT PAL, a key player in this industry, must develop strategic shipbuilding policies to support this vision. This study aims to analyze and identify optimal strategic policies for PT PAL using the Analytical Network Process (ANP) method and Super Decisions software. The findings indicate that prioritizing the development of the warship division is crucial, as it received the highest weight in defense equipment needs. Consequently, PT PAL should focus on enhancing its warship division to align with Indonesia's maritime defense and security objectives.

Abstract

Indonesia's territory, which consists of land and sea, is a positive side that supports aspects of public health. The sea can be used as a vacation spot (mental health) while the land can be used to plant herbal plants (body health). Community knowledge about these health benefits is shared in folklore activities, in the form of folk songs. People create songs to store and share knowledge about health. The folk songs are Prau Layar, Padhang Wulan, Suwe Ora Jamu, and Kodok Ngorek. This study aims to explore indigenous knowledge in those folk songs. The results showed that the knowledge contained in folk songs was mental health (the importance of picnics at the sea, playing and joking with friends), body health (taking naps), and the names of ingredients for making jamu (traditional health drinks). The conclusion is that the indigenous knowledge contained in folk songs is mental health, body health, and herbs for making traditional health drinks. The findings in this study is that cassava leaves and sweet potato leaves have potential as natural skincare ingredients.

Abstract

Technological progress in transportation, especially sea transportation, is necessary for a maritime nation. It is essential for ensuring the distribution of goods and mobilizing passengers between islands. Additionally, it is crucial for the maintenance of these systems. Every individual who works in this sector must be able to adapt to and maintain the stability of technological machinery. Technological advances have led to rapid development in various fields, including the maritime sector. However, these advances can lead to fatal work accidents if not balanced with qualified skills. Work accidents in the maritime transportation industry caused by human error result in significant losses for both ship passengers and companies. This study focuses on the initial skills of PT AJS ship crews in using navigation equipment. The research results show that the skills of ship crews in using navigation equipment significantly influence the safety of the shipping fleet.

Abstract

The recent incident in the Natuna waters involving the Vietnamese coast guard and the Indonesian naval patrol has reignited tensions. Both parties claim that their activities were conducted within their respective Exclusive Economic Zones (EEZ). This boundary dispute is likely to persist unless Indonesia and Vietnam reach a mutual agreement regarding their EEZ limits. This article aims to analyze the existing agreement between Indonesia and Vietnam and explore the factors contributing to the prolonged nature of this issue. The delimitation of the border between Indonesia and Vietnam has been prompted by the increasing threats of illegal fishing within Indonesia's sovereign territory in Natuna. Despite being neighboring countries, Indonesia and Vietnam have yet to reach a conclusive decision regarding their EEZ boundaries. This issue persists even after the signing of the continental shelf agreement based on the United Nations Convention on the Law of the Sea (UNCLOS 1982). The EEZ problem in the Indonesia-Vietnam boundaries is compounded by various factors, including economic, diplomatic, and environmental concerns. Resolving this issue requires careful consideration and cooperation between the two nations.

Abstract

Fishing gear is essential for fishing activities, and as a maritime nation, Indonesia boasts a rich diversity of marine resources. Many Indonesians rely on fishing for their livelihood. This study was conducted in Kampung Mandar, Banyuwangi Regency, and examines four key areas: the condition of the fishing community, the technology used by Mandar fishermen, fishing areas, and profit-sharing among fishermen. The research employed various methods, including literature review, interviews, and observation. The findings reveal significant differences in fishing gear among Kampung Mandar fishermen, with specific gear and areas designated for different types of fish. The majority of the Mandar fishing community consists of service fishermen, many of whom now use diesel engines for their boats. Variations in fishing gear, such as boat type, fishing lines, and the use of lights, highlight different fishing practices. The cooperative established by KUB Pondok Layar aims to mitigate issues that negatively impact fishermen. During the east season (June-October), many Mandar fishermen seek employment in urban areas, returning to the village for the west monsoon fishing season (November-May).

Abstract

This article focuses on the dynamics of Indonesia-Australia relations in the context of the Timor Gap Treaty. Political victory or defeat over territorial disputes is vital in bilateral relations between Indonesia and Australia. Historical methods were used to examine the problem, in which the data is extracted from primary sources, including news and articles in newspapers and magazines. Many factors determine the issue of neighbourly relations between two countries. The research results show that Indonesia’s political interests are a priority in resolving the Timor Gap conflict. Australia’s recognition of Indonesia’s sovereignty over East Timor is the primary consideration for the Indonesian Government in resolving disputes in the Timor Gap. This factor also causes Indonesia to recognize Australia’s maritime claims over areas that close to Indonesia.

Abstract

This This article discusses the development of Pontianak port from 1980 to 2012. Pontianak Port is an important port because, in addition to being a shipping port, it is also a loading and unloading port for commodities such as rubber, tengkawang, and wood. This research uses historical methods to describe the factors that influenced the development of the Pontianak Port. The results show that Pontianak Port does not stand alone and is an inseparable part of the development of other sectors. The development of industries such as rubber in West Kalimantan, adequate port facilities, the construction of the Trans Kalimantan Road which facilitated the delivery of goods from the interior to the port, and the development of Ketapang port became important factors in the development of Pontianak Port. However, in its development, several factors hinder the development of Pontianak Port such as silting of the port entrance and also dredging the pond.

Abstract

This article focuses on the dynamics of North Beach reclamation in Penjaringan sub-district. Reclamation is an activity that is considered beneficial for improving the use of land resources. This study uses the historical method to explain the policy underpinning the implementation of reclamation and the impact of reclamation on social life in Penjaringan Sub-district. Reclamation development has been planned since Presidential Decree (Keppres) No. 52/1995 on Reclamation of the North Coast of Jakarta was issued by the New Order government. In its implementation, the policy that led to the implementation of reclamation had adverse impacts in both environmental and social aspects. This was caused by overlapping policies that only benefited the developers. In addition, the implementation of reclamation as an implementation of government policy did not pay attention to the social and environmental impacts for the surrounding community.
