Abstract

The utilization of superior hybrid varieties is pivotal in enhancing national maize productivity. Therefore, the continuous development of cultivars specifically adapted to distinct agroecosystems remains imperative. To that end, this study evaluated six inbred lines and 15 single-cross hybrids derived from a half diallel mating design to assess the combining ability of these inbred lines and examine the agronomic performance and heterotic expression manifested in the resulting hybrids. All genotypes, including the hybrids, inbred parents, and a check variety (P32), were tested using an RCBD with two replications in Nagari Situjuah, West Sumatra, Indonesia. The data were analyzed using F-tests followed by a planned LSD test with SAS software at the 5% significance level. PCA and path analysis were performed using RStudio, while GCA and SCA were analyzed using Diallel-SAS software. Results showed that the UZ 9 line performed the highest GCA for growth, flowering and yield-related traits. Hybrids UZ 3><UZ 9 (H2), P137-1><R2 (H14), and CLYN><R2 (H15) exhibited the best SCA values, coupled with superior agronomic performance, positive and high heterosis, heterobeltiosis, and standard heterosis for yield, achieving up to 11 tons hectare⁻¹, comparable to P32. PCA further supported these findings, which revealed that H2, H14, and H15 were associated with shorter flowering, harvesting periods and higher kernel yield. Path analysis identified kernel weight ear⁻¹ as the most influential variable affecting kernel yield hectare⁻¹. These findings highlight H2, H14, and H15 as promising hybrids with strong potential for further development and evaluation before release as new superior hybrid varieties.

Abstract

Vanilla is a plant that has many benefits, high selling value and potential to be developed. Conventional propagation of vanilla such as through cuttings has not been effective, so a more effective method of propagation is needed, one of which is propagation through tissue culture. In-vitro propagation of vanilla can be through shoot multiplication to produce fast plantlets. One of the successes of shoot multiplication is influenced by the hormone given. This study aims to determine the effect of giving a combination of 2,4-D and BAP on the multiplication of vanilla shoots. The study design used CRD with a combination factor of 2,4-D (concentration 0.5 mg/L, 1.0 mg/L, and 1.5 mg/L) and BAP (concentration 0.25 mg/L, 0.5 mg/L, and 0.75 mg/L). The explants used were vanilla stem segments. Based on the research results, the combined treatment with concentrations of 2,4-D 1 mg/L and BAP 0.5 mg/L had a very significant effect on the multiplication of vanilla shoots with the fastest emergence of shoots with an average of 6.6 wap, the highest number of shoots was 7 shoots, and the survival percentage was 100%.

Abstract

Farmers have not yet utilized corn cobs, one of the agricultural wastes. Corn cobs themselves contain organic material, which can be optimized as an ingredient for making organic fertilizer. However, the habit of farmers when the harvest season arrives is that they burn or pile up corn cobs on their agricultural land. This results in the accumulation of corn cob waste increasing every time the harvest season takes place. Methods to determine the best composition of corn cob compost by testing its effectiveness using various formulations. The research was conducted using a Completely Randomized Design (CRD) with 4 treatments and 6 replications. P1 pure composition of corn cobs, P2 (2:1) corn cobs and cow cohe, P3 (1:2) corn cobs and cow cohe, P4 (1:1) corn cobs and cow cohe. Results In this research, the parameters observed include pH, temperature, macronutrients (N, P, K), C-organic, C/N ratio, color, odor/aroma, and texture. pH and temperature checks are carried out every 3 days in the morning. Laboratory tests are carried out to determine the content of macronutrients (N, P, K), C-organic, and the C/N ratio. Meanwhile, organoleptic tests were carried out on texture and aroma parameters by 3 expert panelists. Conclusion: Based on the results of observations and laboratory tests, the best composition of corn cob compost fertilizer is found in P2 with a composition of cow cobs and kohe (2:1).

Abstract

This study aimed to isolate and identify Phosphate-solubilizing Bacteria (PSB) from the rhizosphere of spinach, water spinach, and lamtoro grown on post-tin mining land in Padang Baru Village, Central Bangka Regency. Soil samples were collected from the rhizosphere and serially diluted before being cultured on Pikovskaya agar to isolate PSB, which were then characterized morphologically, physiologically, and biochemically. Biochemical tests included Gram staining, catalase, motility, methyl red (MR), and Triple Sugar Iron Agar (TSIA) tests, while phosphate solubilization activity was quantified using the Phosphate Solubilization Index (PSI). A total of seven isolates were successfully obtained and showed diverse colony morphologies, indicating adaptation to extreme post-mining conditions. The isolates were identified as belonging to the genera Pseudomonas, Rhodococcus, and Acinetobacter, known for solubilizing phosphate via organic acids and exopolysaccharides (EPS). Although the PSI values were in the moderate range, the high colony abundance demonstrated strong viability and ecological competitiveness. These research suggest that PSB from degraded post-mining soils may serve as potential biofertilizers to enhance phosphorus availability and support ecological rehabilitation.

Abstract

Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk kelimpahan fungi di rizosfer tanaman kangkung, bayam, dan petai cina yang ditanam di lahan pasca tambang timah, dan jenis fungi pelarut fosfat yang tumbuh di rizosfer tanaman kangkung, bayam, dan petai cina yang ditanam di lahan pasca tambang timah di Desa Padang Baru, Kabupaten Bangka Tengah. Penelitian ini diperoleh sebanyak tujuh sampel isolat yang menunjukkan beberapa parameter koloni fungi yang harus diidenteifikasi. Hasil identifikasi dan karakterissi berdasarkan dari morfologi secara makroskopis, dan mikroskopis, sehingga pengamatan makroskopis juga dapat melihat pigmentasi warna atas, dan warna bawah, elevasi, tepi koloni, dan permukaan. Pengamatan mikroskopis juga dapat meilihat hifa, konidiofor, dan hialid. Ditemukannya hasil beberapa jenis fungi pelarut fosfat yaitu Penicillium, Trichoderma, Fusarium, dan Aspergillus. Pada ketiga jenis ini yang berperan penting dalan melarutkan fosfat yang paling tinggi adalah Aspergillus sp.

Abstract

Bacterial grain rot is one of the diseases caused by the bacterium Burkholderia glumae in the rice plant. This disease can cause a 40% loss in rice crop yield. One technique for controlling this disease is to use biological control agents, specifically endophytic bacteria. The study aimed to obtain endophytic bacterial isolates that can potentially suppress grain rot disease (B. glumae) in rice plants. The study was conducted experimentally using a completely randomized design (CRD) with 13 treatments and three replicates, each consisting of 2 experimental units. The treatments consisted of endophytic bacterial isolates BMI31, BMI33, ADI34, ADI35, ADI37, KKI35, KKI36, BI31, BI33, BI34, BI41, BPI41, a positive and a negative control. Endophytic bacteria were introduced into rice seeds and roots 21 days after sowing, while B. glumae was inoculated into rice plants at 45 days after sowing. The results of the study indicate that the endophytic bacteria with potential to control the development of bacterial grain rot disease in rice plants are isolates BMI33 and ADI35, with disease severity levels of 30.74%– 32.64% and effectiveness of 49.55–52.48%, AUDPC values of 293.99-351.95, and a percentage of disease development suppression effectiveness of 60.73%- 70.61%. The results show that endophytic bacterial isolates have the potential to become biological control agents.

Abstract

Spodoptera frugiperda telah menjadi ancaman serius bagi produksi tanaman jagung di Indonesia dan menyebabkan kerugian hasil yang signifikan. Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk mengevaluasi keefektifan kombinasi eugenol dan asam lemak (Asam oleat, asam miristat dan asam laurat) terhadap mortalitas larva S. frugiperda. Semua campuran eugenol dan asam lemak disiapkan dalam rasio 1:5 dengan lima tingkat konsentrasi (0,1; 0,5; 1; 2 dan 5 % (w/v)) serta kontrol.  Hasil penelitian menunjukkan adanya perbedaan aktivitas yang nyata antara perlakuan. Hampir semua konsentrasi yang diuji pada campuran eugenol dan asam oleat (0,5, 1, 2 dan 5%) berpengaruh nyata terhadap mortalitas larva S. frugiperda dengan nilai mortalitas sebesar 80-100%. Campuran eugenol dan asam laurat menunjukkan peningkatan mortalitas mulai dari konsentrasi 0,5% yaitu sebesar 28,74%. Sedangkan pada campuran eugenol dan asam miristat, mortalitas paling tinggi terjadi pada konsentrasi 2% dan 5% masing-masing 98,75% dan 100%. Analisis toksisitas menunjukkan nilai LD50 eugenol tunggal sebesar 0,69 mg gr-1 larva, sedangkan kombinasi dengan asam oleat, asam laurat, dan asam miristat masing-masing sebesar 0,25; 0,74; dan 0,50 mg gr-1 larva. Nilai synergistic ratio (SR) menunjukkan bahwa kombinasi eugenol dan asam oleat memberikan efek sinergis tertinggi yaitu 2,76. Seluruh perlakuan kombinasi eugenol dan asam lemak memengaruhi aktivitas spesifik enzim sitokrom P450, glutathion S-transferase, dan esterase pada larva S. frugiperda. Secara keseluruhan, campuran eugenol dan asam oleat (1:5) memberikan efek terbaik dibandingkan campuran eugenol dengan asam laurat atau dengan asam miristat (1:5) terhadap larva S. frugiperda.
