Abstract

A person's language skills are related to his ability to think. The ability to write of someone is determined by how he thinks then takes it out through written language. Therefore, the ability to think must also be trained early on well. In the learning process, students are less encouraged to develope their thinking skills. Higher Order Thinking (HOT) learning strategies are applied to see the effect on the ability to write anecdotal texts. This research was carried out using quasi-experimental method with static group comparison research design model. The population in this study were all class X students of SMA Negeri 1 Telukdalam, South Nias in the 2017/2018 learning year totaling 252 people. The sampling technique was carried out purposively (purposive sampling). The number of samples in this study was 66 people. Class X IPA Anggrek is a control class (31 people) and Class X IPA Dahlia is an experimental class (35 people). This research instrument is an essay-shaped test. The results showed that based on the t test performed, t0> t table, namely 1.88> 1.669. Thus H0 (null hypothesis) is rejected and Ha (alternative hypothesis) is accepted. It can be concluded that the application of HOT (Higher Order Thinking) learning strategies has a positive effect on the learning outcomes of class X SMA Negeri 1 Telukdalam T.A. 2017/2018.

Abstract

According to the revised version of K13 implemented to X grade, a teacher is expected to follow the association training of K13 implementation to have knowledge about the implementation of K13. The main problems in implementing the revised version of K13 faced by teachers of social sciences in senior high school areteachers’ willingness in implementing the curriculum, availability of course books for teachers and students, creativity in creating worksheets, assessment of students’ knowledge and skills, willingness to follow extra time of learning, and school report card. Teachers face difficulties to get references and createworksheets becauseteachers are required to comprehensively study content ofpermendikbudthat sets the standard of competence of graduates, core competencies, and basic competence. Teachers encounter difficulties in determining operational verbs for indicator of competencies achievement and applying scoring system. The purposes of this research were to know how revised version of K13 is implemented in senior high school, teachers’ perception of social sciences concentration, andobstacles faced by teachers of social sciences concentration in implementing the curriculum. Qualitative approach with descriptive method wasapplied in this research. This research revealed that teachers of social sciences concentration have good and positive perception toward the implementation of revised version of K13. Based on the results, it is suggested that the principal of SMA N.1 Telukdalam should motivate the teachersin implementing revised version of K13, and the result of this research could be used as a reference byfurther researchers.

Abstract

Thi research is motivated by the background of the lack of enthusiasm in learning, passivity in the learning process, shame in conveying what is in his mind, etc. in addition, students do not achieve the expected competencies in each meeting. Based on the background of the problem, the formulation of the problem is how much is the contribution of motivation and interest in learning to the ability of the english speaking of the Guidance and Counseling Students, STKIP South Nias? The type of the research used is quantitative research with descriptive-correlational research approach. The sample of the study were 79 students. The research instrument is a questionnaire. Hypothesis testing is done using simple and multiple linear regression formulas. Based on the results of data analysis, the results of multiple regression analysis variables X1 and Variable X2 on variable Y shows that Tcount of motivation and interest in learning is 6,343 and 5,884 with a significant level of 0,000 and t table is 1,990, this means that tcount > t table then Ha is accepted, meaning a significant regression coefficient. Thus, it can be concluded that there are significant contributions to motivation and interest in learning in English speaking skill of the Guidance and Counseling Students, STKIP South Nias.

Abstract

Tello Islands is a small island located in South Nias Regency and separated from the mainland of Nias Island. Although included in the Nias tribe category, Tello Islands have a lot of diversity in terms of culture. it can be seen from the traditional wedding attire wears by the local community which is very unique and similar to traditional Minang clothing. In the traditional dress, the bridegroom wears keris, songket cloth wrapped around the waist of the groom, hat (takula), while traditional bridal clothes in other areas of the Nias Islands do not use it. To find out the origins of Tello Island Culture in terms of traditional clothing, researchers conducted research using qualitative research with descriptive approach methods. Researchers conducted interviews with the local community, especially in the case of traditional wedding clothes and documented parts of traditional clothing. From the observations, documentation and interviews found in the field, it turned out that the Tello Islands culture originated from the Nias Islands and is still maintained to this day, although there are certain parts of the traditional dress of male and female marriage that have changed and there are also clothing parts which is no longer used. This is because the production of parts of traditional clothing is no longer there and symbolic interaction, the bride is symbolized as queen and king a day

Abstract

The learning process that is dominated by the teacher and that does not involve students in understanding mathematical concepts will make students get difficulties to interpret the concept with their own sentences, moreover in linking each mathematical concept in problem solving. The purpose of this research was to improve the learning process and to improve the ability to understand geometric concepts of reflection transformation of students of Class XII IPA B of SMA Swasta Kampus through discovery learning model assisted by millimeter block media. The type of research used was Classroom Action Research, with 4 (four) stages, namely planning, action, observation and reflection. Based on the results of the research, the students' ability in understanding mathematical concepts showed the improvement where the students easily found geometric concepts of reflection transformation with simple experiments and were able to solve mathematical problems through discovery learning model with the average score was 89.5 from the test given in last cycle. Based on that finding, the researcher suggests that discovery learning model can be used as a solution to improve students' understanding of the ability of concepts. Teachers should use and design appropriate learning media in teaching certain material so students can easily understand the concepts being studied.

Abstract

The purpose of this research is to see how far the increase in mathematical creative thinking abilities of students who are given problem-based learning models with ordinary learning models. This study was conducted in class V SD Negeri 200201 Ujung Padang in Padangsidimpuan City in the second semester with a total sample of 50 students divided into experimental class and control class with a research design using Pretest-Postes Control Group Design. Based on the results of the study of the average normalized gain through mathematical creative thinking abilities of students with high, medium, and low ability obtained a score of 0.45 higher than ordinary learning with an average of 0.21. The results of the data analysis showed that the improvement of students' mathematical creative thinking skills using problem-based learning was better than students who were given ordinary learning. From the results of the study it can be concluded that problem-based learning is one alternative to improve students' creative thinking skills, find new ideas, think flexibly so that they are more flexible and detailed.

Abstract

This research aims to explain the students’ writing ability in term of cohesive writing and to analyze the factor that causes students’ problems in using cohesive devices in writing analytical expository text. This research is a mixed method research purpose to build on the synergy and strength that exist between quantitative and qualitative research methods to understand a phenomenon. The data were the fourth semester students of English department of Institut Pendidikan Tapanuli Selatan. The sample were consisting of 40 students. The finding shows that the quality of students’ writing was in the level of low category. They have problems in using cohesive devices. The problems are related to the use of reference, substitution, ellipsis, conjunction and lexical cohesion. The reason of the problems in using cohesive devices in writing is based on linguistic, pragmatic, cognitive and cultural factor. Four of them give influence that causes the lack cohesive writing. Therefore, an intensive attention should be given by the lecture to facilitate the students to practice writing in the classroom and do peer correction.
