Abstract

Psychological well-being is very important to improve a person's optimal psychological functioning, good quality of life, and hope to live longer. Psychological well-being is influenced by many factors, one of which is social support because it functions as a mediator between stressors and individuals. Lack of social support for honorary teachers in the Special Region of Yogyakarta can make their psychological well-being level low. The purpose of this study was to determine the relationship between social support and psychological well-being in honorary teachers in the Special Region of Yogyakarta. The methodology used was a quantitative method with a correlational approach. A total of 100 honorary teachers in the Special Region of Yogyakarta became research subjects. The sampling technique in the study used accidental sampling. The data in the study were taken using a questionnaire and the data analysis used product-moment correlation analysis. The results of the correlation test between social support and psychological well-being showed r = 0.495 with a p-value = 0.000 (p < 0.005), which means that there is a significant relationship between social support and psychological well-being in honorary teachers in the Special Region of Yogyakarta.

Abstract

Internet gaming is the recreational medium most commonly used by society today but it can be developed into one of the disorders with the term internet gaming disorder. It is noted that the prevalence of IGD among adolescents is 19.9% in England and 17% in China. Indonesia's media covers news of violations related to excessive internet gaming, including stealing, dropping out of school, causing fires, and stealing money from orphanages. One of the protective factors of IGD is the role of parents. Rejection from parents can have an impact on a person's low self-esteem. Lower self-esteem makes a person vulnerable to engage in risky behavior such as internet gaming disorder (IGD). This study aims to look at the role of self-esteem as a mediator in the relationship between parental rejection (PR) and indications of internet gaming disorder (IGD) among adolescents. This research is a correlational quantitative study with 116 participants aged 18-20 years, actively playing internet gaming in the past year, and having an IGD indication based on the cut-off score of the measuring instrument. PR was measured using the Adult Parental Acceptance-Rejection Questionnaire (Adult PARQ): Father and Mother-Short Form, self-esteem using the Rosenberg Self-Esteem Scale, and IGD using the Ten-Item Internet Gaming Disorder Test (IGDT-10). The research model uses the Process Macro statistical analysis. The results showed that parental rejection predicts the IGD, so the higher the rejection, the greater the IGD owned by the participants. In addition, self-esteem was not proven as a mediator in the relationship between parental rejection and IGD.

Abstract

The high number of recidivism cases is a form of evaluation of the failure of the reintegration process of correctional clients. This study aims to determine the study of reintegration in correctional clients so that further research can be conducted. The research method used is bibliometric analysis using Vosviewer on published articles indexed by Scopus based on searches from 2000-2024. The results of the study showed that a journal search on the scopus.com site with the keywords (reentry OR resettlement OR reintegration*) AND (recidivi OR recidivism*) AND (prisoners OR incarceration OR incarcerated*) obtained 524 journals. Then reduced based on the following aspects, namely (1) English and open access, (2) Scopus-indexed scientific articles, (3) research in 2000-2024, (4) subject areas in the fields of Social, Health and Psychology. Based on the results of the Vosviewer analysis using the co-author method, it shows that the country with the highest reintegration research is America with 390 Scopus-indexed journals. This shows that research interest in the topic of reintegration is very high, followed by Australia and England and other European countries. From the author's context, there are 10 authors who show high frequency in their research, but there are only four authors who are connected to each other. This shows the lack of significant collaboration between authors. In addition, there are several potential variables for further research, namely mental health, well-being, quality of life, self-efficacy, dan support system.

Abstract

Adolescence is a transitional period filled with challenges and opportunities for cognitive, emotional, and social development. One crucial aspect influencing adolescent well-being is self-esteem, an individual's evaluation of their worth and value. Low self-esteem is often associated with cognitive distortions that can affect adolescents' emotions and behaviors, leading to anxiety, depression, and maladaptive behaviors. This study explores the effectiveness of Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT) in enhancing self-esteem among adolescents. CBT is an evidence-based psychotherapy approach that assists individuals in identifying and transforming maladaptive negative thought patterns into more realistic and adaptive ones. This research employs a case study method involving a 16-year-old adolescent with low self-esteem resulting from cognitive distortions about herself and her environment. The CBT intervention was conducted over six sessions, including psychoeducation, monitoring of thoughts and emotions, identification of cognitive distortions, and the development of new cognitive and behavioral skills. The results indicate a significant increase in the participant's self-esteem scores, measured using the Self-Perception Profile for Adolescents (SPPA) before and after the intervention. These findings suggest that CBT can be an effective intervention for enhancing adolescent self-esteem by equipping them with skills to manage emotions, alter negative thinking, and improve interpersonal relationships adaptively.

Abstract

Separation anxiety is one of the most common emotional challenges experienced by young children during the early stages of school transition. Difficulties in separating from parents may hinder children’s emotional adjustment, participation in classroom activities, and overall readiness for school. This study aimed to examine the effectiveness of the Gentle Separation program in reducing separation anxiety among early childhood students during the initial weeks of school. The program emphasizes gradual desensitization and structured parental involvement, distinguishing it from conventional adaptation approaches that often rely on immediate separation. An experimental research method with a pre-test–post-test design was employed to evaluate the effectiveness of the intervention. Anxiety levels among children in the intervention group were measured before and after the implementation of the program. Data analysis revealed a statistically significant reduction in separation anxiety scores, indicated by a significance value of p < 0.05 and a large effect size. These findings demonstrate that the Gentle Separation program effectively supports children’s emotional readiness by facilitating a safer and more adaptive transition into the school environment. The gradual separation process enabled children to develop a stronger sense of security and emotional comfort during school adjustment. This study highlights the importance of child-centered and humane transition strategies in early childhood education settings. Practically, the findings suggest that the Gentle Separation program may serve as an effective orientation model and can be adopted as a standard transition procedure in early childhood education institutions to support children’s psychological well-being and school readiness.

Abstract

The rapid growth of social media usage among university students has significantly transformed learning experiences, particularly through the emergence of information overload. One critical issue is social media overload, which may lead to emotional fatigue and subsequently affect students’ academic satisfaction. This study aimed to examine the relationship between social media overload and learning satisfaction among university students who actively use TikTok, as well as to investigate the mediating role of emotional fatigue. A quantitative research design was employed involving 302 participants aged 18–25 years who were active TikTok users. Data were collected using the Digital Media Overuse Scale, the Emotional Exhaustion Scale, and the Study Satisfaction Scale. Mediation analysis was conducted using PROCESS Macro Model 4. The results indicated that social media overload significantly increased emotional fatigue, which in turn had a negative effect on students’ learning satisfaction. Furthermore, emotional fatigue was found to fully mediate the relationship between social media overload and learning satisfaction. This finding suggests that the negative impact of social media overload on learning satisfaction operates entirely through the mechanism of emotional fatigue. These results highlight the importance of managing digital media consumption to prevent emotional exhaustion and maintain academic well-being. The study provides practical implications for educators and institutions in designing interventions that promote healthy social media use and support students’ emotional regulation in digital learning environments.

Abstract

Juvenile inmates are a vulnerable population who face complex psychological challenges due to separation from family, social stigma, and adaptation to correctional environments. Family functioning is considered an important factor that may support adolescents’ psychological well-being, while resilience is often viewed as a protective mechanism in coping with adverse conditions. This study aimed to examine the mediating role of resilience in the relationship between family functioning and psychological well-being among juvenile inmates at LPKA Class II Maros. A quantitative approach was employed using a total sampling technique involving 62 juvenile inmates. Data were analyzed using Partial Least Squares–Structural Equation Modeling (PLS-SEM) with the assistance of SmartPLS 4. The results indicated that family functioning had a positive and significant effect on resilience (β = 0.460; p < 0.001). However, family functioning did not significantly affect psychological well-being (β = 0.218; p = 0.241), and resilience also showed no significant effect on psychological well-being (β = 0.120; p = 0.644). Furthermore, resilience was not found to mediate the relationship between family functioning and psychological well-being (β = 0.055; p = 0.676). These findings suggest that although supportive family functioning contributes to the development of resilience, resilience alone is insufficient to directly enhance psychological well-being among juvenile inmates. The results indicate that psychological well-being in this high-risk population may be influenced by other psychosocial factors beyond family functioning and resilience, such as social support, coping strategies, and institutional environments. This study contributes to the understanding of psychological well-being among juvenile inmates and highlights the importance of considering broader psychosocial interventions in correctional settings.

Abstract

Learning motivation is an essential determinant of students’ academic achievement and is strongly influenced by the family environment, particularly parenting styles. This study aimed to examine the influence of parenting styles on the learning motivation of eleventh-grade students at SMA Methodist-2 Medan. A quantitative research approach was employed involving 215 students selected from a population of 525 students using proportionate stratified random sampling. Data were analyzed using multiple linear regression analysis after fulfilling statistical assumption tests, including normality, multicollinearity, heteroscedasticity, and autocorrelation tests. The results indicated that parenting styles had a significant effect on students’ learning motivation, as evidenced by an F value of 9.798 with a significance level of p = 0.000 (p < 0.05). The findings further revealed that parenting styles contributed 10.4% to students’ learning motivation, as reflected in the Adjusted R Square value of 0.104, while the remaining 89.6% was influenced by other variables outside the scope of this study. Partial analysis showed that democratic parenting had a positive and significant effect on learning motivation (p = 0.027), authoritarian parenting also demonstrated a positive and significant effect (p = 0.022), and permissive parenting had the strongest positive influence (p = 0.011). These findings indicate that each parenting style may contribute differently to students’ learning motivation when applied in supportive family contexts. The study highlights the importance of parental involvement, emotional support, and balanced communication in fostering students’ motivation to learn. Practically, the results provide valuable insights for parents and schools in developing strategies to strengthen students’ academic motivation and engagement.
