Abstract

Quality prenatal examinations can aid in the early detection of nutritional issues and provide necessary interventions. The standard for Antenatal Care (ANC) in Indonesia has been established to include a minimum of six visits throughout pregnancy, with a focus on monitoring maternal and fetal health. This study analyzes the demographic factors of maternal age, parity, gestational age, and occupation in relation to the individuals' ANC services and the incidence of stunting. The design of this study is a case-control study (1:1) with a total sample size of 212. The results indicated that maternal age, parity, gestational age, and occupation correlated with the individuals' ANC services. Maternal age during pregnancy exhibited a significant relationship with individuals' ANC service (p equal 0.001; OR equal 4.71), parity (p equal 0.001; OR equal 6.11), maternal gestational age (p equal 0.002; OR equal 3.80), maternal occupation (p equal 0.001; OR equal 4.25), and individuals' ANC services (p equal 0.001) concerning the occurrence of stunting. It is recommended to prioritize the enhancement of ANC services according to established standards, including routine examinations, monitoring of fetal growth, provision of appropriate health Education during pregnancy, and support from skilled healthcare professionals, to prevent complications and stunting.

Abstract

Hypertensive disorders (HD) affect up to 10 percent of pregnancies worldwide. Gestational Hypertension 17 percent will progress to preeclampsia if left untreated. Acupressure has been used for centuries to treat a variety of symptoms associated with pregnancy and is also known to lower blood pressure in hypertension. However, the use of ear acupressure as an adjunct to conventional care for hypertensive disorders in pregnancy is underrepresented in the scientific literature. This study aimed to determine the effectiveness of ear acupressure on gestational hypertension. The research method employed a pre-experimental design with a one-group pre-post design. A sample of 15 people received antenatal care and ear acupressure. Analysis using the Paired T Test. The study's results showed a difference in the average blood pressure of primigravida women in the 2nd and third trimesters, both before and after ear acupressure, of 6 mmHg systolic and 4 mmHg diastolic. The results of the Paired t-test p equal 0.00. The conclusion is that ear acupressure affects the blood pressure of primigravida during the second and third trimesters.

Abstract

Indonesia's maternal mortality rate (MMR) and infant mortality rate (IMR) remain relatively high, partly due to prolonged labor that is not managed effectively managed. The peanut ball technique is a non-pharmacological alternative to accelerate labor. This study aims to assess the effect of the peanut ball on labor duration among mothers delivering in the active phase of the first stage. The study employed a quasi-experimental pretest–posttest control-group design. Sixty participants were split into two groups: 30 in the intervention group and 30 in the control group. The intervention group used the peanut ball technique for 120 minutes, while the control group received standard delivery care. Consecutive sampling was used. The study was conducted at Aura Syifa Hospital, Baptist Hospital, and Nirmala Hospital in Kediri. Data were analyzed using the Mann–Whitney test. The results showed that the average labor duration in the intervention group was 150.2 plus minus 60.779 minutes, and the control group was 199.5 plus minus 76.191 minutes, with a p-value of 0.000 (p less than 0.05). The peanut ball technique has been proven effective in accelerating labor. This technique can be implemented as a non-pharmacological intervention in obstetric care.

Abstract

Perineal trauma is a common complication in primigravida women during vaginal childbirth, leading to pain, infection, and psychological distress. Non-pharmacological methods like perineal massage and deep breathing techniques may help reduce such trauma. This study employed a true experimental posttest-only control group design, involving 62 primigravida women who were randomly divided into an intervention group (n=31) and a control group (n=31). Conducted in Malang Regency in July 2025, the intervention included perineal massage starting at 34 weeks of gestation, done twice a week for 10 minutes using lubricant, and deep breathing techniques during contractions and pushing. Data were analyzed using the Mann-Whitney U test. A significant difference was found between groups. The intervention group had a sum of ranks of 270.00, while the control group had 81.00 (p = 0.001), indicating a lower incidence of perineal trauma in the intervention group. Perineal massage combined with deep breathing techniques is a safe and effective non-pharmacological approach to reduce perineal trauma in primigravida women during childbirth.

Abstract

Type 2 diabetes mellitus in adolescents has increased dramatically, with an incidence increasing from 9 to 18 cases per 100,000 per year in the last two decades. Extra Virgin Olive Oil (EVOO) has been shown to have a protective effect against diabetes through its bioactive components. This study aims to analyze the effect of EVOO supplementation on anthropometric parameters as an indicator of diabetes prevention in adolescent girls. This quasi-experimental study employed a pretest-posttest control-group design. The study population comprised all adolescent girls at SMKN 13 Malang, and subjects were selected through purposive sampling; 30 adolescent girls aged 15-18 years were included. Subjects were divided into an intervention group (n=15) who received 10ml/day of EVOO supplementation for 12 weeks and a control group (n=15) who received no treatment. The parameters measured included body weight, height, and waist circumference. The analysis used paired t-tests and Mann-Whitney tests. The results showed a significant decrease in body weight (p=0.000), BMI (p=0.000), and waist circumference (p=0.000) compared to the control group, which experienced an increase in body weight (0.5 kg) and waist circumference (0.233 cm). Still, there was no significant difference in height (p=0.539). In conclusion, EVOO supplementation is effective in reducing body weight and waist circumference in adolescent girls, demonstrating its potential as a preventive agent for diabetes mellitus through improving body composition.

Abstract

This descriptive analytical cross-sectional study assessed the quality of Congenital Hypothyroidism Screening (CHS) implementation by Independent Midwives, a vital program for preventing intellectual developmental delay caused by congenital hypothyroidism (CH). The study involved 60 newborns at BPM Kustini, Lamongan (January-June 2025). Quality was evaluated across three critical points: timeliness of sample collection, quality of Dried Blood Spot (DBS) specimens, and speed of follow-up on results. The findings indicated that 66.67percent of samples were collected on time (48-72 hours), 75percent of DBS specimens were of good quality, and 83.33percent of follow-up results were conducted quickly (less than equals 10 days). Bivariate analysis using the Chi-Square test revealed significant correlations between the timeliness of sampling and the quality of DBS specimens (p equal 0.002) and between specimen quality and the speed of follow-up results (p equal 0.003). Overall, the quality of CHS in independent midwifery practices was promising. Timeliness of sample collection was found to be key to producing high-quality DBS specimens, which, in turn, affected the speed of result follow-up. The study recommends improving midwives' technical competence and family education, and strengthening the referral system to reinforce CHS's success in community services.

Abstract

Speech delay in toddlers is a common developmental issue that can hinder communication and social interaction. If left unaddressed, this condition may create additional barriers to learning and social development. Therefore, early intervention is essential, particularly during the critical 2–3-year period. This study aimed to determine the effectiveness of oral massage in improving language development in toddlers with speech delay. The research was conducted at Ridha Therapy House, Sidoarjo, from January to March 2025 using a quantitative approach with a single-group pre-test–post-test design. A total of 17 toddlers were selected through total sampling. The intervention was administered twice weekly for six weeks, with each session lasting 20 minutes. The procedure involved external facial massage and intraoral stimulation following a standardized protocol, while language development was assessed using the CAT/CLAMS scale. The results showed an increase in mean language scores from 66.4 before intervention to 84.94 after treatment. Additionally, 57.1% of participants reached the "adequate" category, and 42.9% achieved the "good" category. A paired-samples t-test yielded a p-value of 0.001 (< 0.05), indicating a meaningful difference in outcomes. In conclusion, oral massage is an effective early intervention to enhance language development in toddlers aged 2–3 years with speech delay.
