Abstract

This study examines inter-state tension between Indonesia and Malaysia on the issue of Ambalat between 2005-2009 using quantitative analysis. The analysis offers these critical and crucial lenses to reduce empirical and conceptual blind spots in international relations discourse. The issue is pivotal since the Ambalat disputes had yielded tensions between the two nations. Furthermore, the military’s involvement and provocations of mass media were arguably excessive. Previous literature merely focuses on the foreign policy tension and neglects the correlated and critical domestic factors. The purpose of this research is expected to possess a different conceptual perspective on the issue of Ambalat, which is often framed from a security perspective. The mainstream rationale captures Ambalat as an internal political maneuver deployed by President Yudhoyono while antagonizing Indonesia’s relations with the neighbor. The analysis offers these critical and crucial lenses to reduce empirical and conceptual blind spots in international relations discourse. The results showed that President Susilo Bambang Yudhoyono (SBY) used this issue to advance specific political interests by redirecting the public’s attention from mounting petroleum costs and the president’s declining image. This also occurs against the backdrop of the presidential election of 2009 to maneuver Ambalat. However, the maneuver for the domestic audience affected Indonesia-Malaysia’s relations and the rising tension.

Abstract

The Russian-Ukraine conflict has caused a threat to energy security that encourages the Indone- sian government in pursuing transition toward renewable energy. To actualize this transition to- wards renewable energy, Indonesia invites external actors to collaborate, such as Germany through Clean, Affordable, and Secure Energy (CASE) programme. This article aims to inform and raise awareness towards Indonesian government efforts in tackling energy security threats through bilateral cooperation with Germany through the CASE programme. This research fo- cuses on how CASE programme assists Indonesia in objectifying transition towards renewable energy and its attempt to overcome various challenges of energy transition, such as low invest- ment rate towards renewable energy and ineffective budget allocation based on the concept of energy security. This article uses a descriptive-qualitative research design. The analysis showed that Indonesia-Germany bilateral cooperation through CASE programme has helped Indonesia to maximize renewable energy potential through research assistance, public participation en- couragement, discussions between stakeholders, and assistance in technical matters. This article concludes that CASE programme has actually offered resolutions towards Indonesia’s problems in renewable energy transition, such as: encouraging the ratification of the Presidential Decree of NRE to enhance investment in renewable energy sector and providing research assistance in the development of renewable energy technology. However, the Indonesian government's de- layed response towards the Presidential Decree of NRE is a challenge to CASE Programme implementation in Indonesia.

Abstract

Food and beverage production are increasingly circulating, whether produced by large companies or small businesses. The public, as consumers, needs a guarantee of the hygiene and halalness of a product, so the Government requires a halal certificate that business actors must pocket before their products are sold. Of 479,621 new business units in East Java, 2,230 have halal certificates. The author's concern is analyzing business actors' social awareness toward halal certificates. The research was conducted with a qualitative approach, sourced from primary and secondary data. Data collection techniques are interviews, observation, and literature study. The study's results using the Social Awareness theory, which looked at the knowledge, attitude, and action aspects, found that business actors' knowledge of halal certificates and procedures was well established. However, in terms of attitudes and actions towards halal certificates, the products differed due to external factors, namely costs and management complexity. Business actors will be proactive if obtaining halal product certificates is carried out efficiently and at low costs. Even producers admit they want to avoid taking care of if they have to use personal costs. Another factor that supports the social awareness of business actors is the assistance of facilities from the Surabaya city government through the Department of Trade, both technical assistance and costs.

Meanwhile, the Local Government of Tojo Una-Una Regency and Sorong Regency only involved the community in designing and implementing innovations. Further, the results of this study show that influential factors from several perspectives. From the government’s perspective, the local governments did not reflect the risk-averse but have shown an open attitude to co-creation. The issue of migrant workers is of immediate and urgent interest in the world today. This article aims to determine the collaboration of various institutions in preventing and reducing the problem of Irregular Indonesian Migrant Workers (PMI) to Sabah. This study used a qualitative descriptive method. Data was collected through in-depth interviews with purposive sampling techniques, direct observation, and literature review. Issues were analyzed using the concept of International Collaborative Governance. The findings reveal that there are efforts made by various parties to cooperate and collaborate in preventing and reducing the presence of Irregular Indonesian Migrant Workers. However, the results were not optimal because the leading institution was not strong enough to coordinate all the parties involved.
