Abstract

This research investigates the moral message conveyed by the movie “Jagat Raya 2” through a qualitative approach. This research uses Ferdinand De Saussure's semiotic analysis, which includes signifier and signified. This movie is valued because it has a moral message. This short film tells the story of a teaching concept that is beneficial for teachers and students in the classroom with progressive education theory. This movie is a product of the Merdeka Belajar era and is used as an alternative to methods. Through documentation and observation of this movie, which is divided into scenes, several moral messages about life are found. One of them is to provide space for students to determine attitudes towards their own choices while teachers can provide differentiated learning while providing a stimulus that can move students in building human resources. Through film media, it is hoped that this character education can be implemented as the goal of the Merdeka Belajar program and create quality education.

Abstract

This study examines users’ subjective experiences of algorithmic communication generated by smartwatches in the context of health decision-making. Using a critical phenomenological approach and an Interpretative Phenomenological Analysis (IPA) design, the study involved 12 active smartwatch users from urban areas in Indonesia who had used health-notification features for more than six months. Data were collected through in-depth interviews, digital observation, and reflective journaling. Findings reveal that smartwatch notifications function not merely as reminders but subtly and repeatedly shape users’ behaviors and health decisions, often without deliberate reflection. The concept of self-nudging, ideally grounded in user autonomy, frequently shifts into pseudo-self-nudging and even algorithmic steering, where the algorithm becomes the dominant agent guiding user actions. Users experience ambivalence—feeling supported yet simultaneously controlled—indicating a shift in bodily authority from personal intuition to algorithmic recommendations. These findings highlight the need for algorithmic literacy and ethical design in wearable technologies to ensure that users retain agency and reflective awareness when facing digital interventions that are prescriptive and normative.

Abstract

Climate change has become a global issue that demands the active involvement of younger generations. In line with the 2050 Net Zero Emission target, the Central Leadership of Ikatan Pelajar Muhammadiyah (IPM), through its Environmental Affairs Division, organized the Aksi Pelajar untuk Iklim 2024 (Student Action for Climate 2024) as an effort to enhance student participation in climate change mitigation and adaptation. This study aims to analyze the implementation of the program, identify its challenges, and formulate strategic solutions to improve its effectiveness. The research employs a qualitative approach through in-depth interviews with central IPM leaders and participants, as well as observations during the kick-off event held in Kota Karang, Teluk Betung District, Bandar Lampung. The analysis refers to the Diffusion of Innovations Theory to understand how climate action ideas are disseminated among Muhammadiyah students. The findings indicate that the program effectively increases student awareness and participation and has the potential to shape agents of change in supporting the Net Zero Emission target. However, challenges remain in terms of coordination, funding, and program sustainability, which require further attention. Theoretically, this study strengthens the application of the Diffusion of Innovations Theory within the context of student-based environmental education. Practically, the findings provide recommendations for youth organizations and educational institutions in developing more inclusive, sustainable, and impactful climate action models.

Abstract

The 2024 Indonesian Presidential Election sparked significant public debate regarding allegations of election fraud. This study investigated public sentiment toward media reporting in response to these fraud allegations on social media platform X. This study employed a quantitative approach with sentiment analysis methods, utilizing three sentiment analysis algorithms: Support Vector Machine (SVM), VADER Sentiment, and Naive Bayes. The research involved collecting tweets related to election fraud, which were then processed using the TF-IDF method to assess the importance of words within the text. Subsequently, the data was classified to identify the sentiment expressed in the tweets. VADER achieved the highest accuracy of 100%, followed by SVM at 92.29%, and Naive Bayes at 90.05%. While most tweets were neutral, negative sentiment was more prevalent in all models. These findings suggested that social media sentiment reflected public opinion on sensitive political issues, providing valuable insights into the discourse on election fraud. The study underscored the need for improving sentiment analysis methods, particularly in addressing data imbalance and the complexities of political sentiment in Indonesia.

Abstract

Online pop culture has grown rapidly in the digital era and has changed the way people express their opinions, especially when discussing political issues. One of the most commonly used forms of expression is memes, as they are easy to understand, light, yet capable of delivering sharp criticism. This study examines the meanings contained in the meme “In the past, the father went to the capital riding ESEMKA, now the son goes to the capital riding EMKA,” uploaded by the Instagram account @komikkitaig. Using Roland Barthes’ semiotic analysis, this research explores meaning on three levels. At the denotative level, the meme presents a symbolic comparison between the father through the “ESEMKA” vehicle and the son through “EMKA” as a representation of the Constitutional Court. At the connotative level, the symbols “ESEMKA EMKA” point to criticism of political projects that never materialized and the rise of dynastic politics. Meanwhile, at the mythical level, the meme shows how political power in Indonesia is often wrapped in symbolic development narratives. The findings suggest that memes function as visual satire capable of delivering political criticism without direct confrontation. Their simplicity and humor make the critique more accessible, as reflected in public responses such as reposts and online discussions that help reinforce the circulation of resistance discourses in digital spaces.

Abstract

Students who participate in exchange programs have to meet people with backgrounds that are much different from their own. Such situations can cause anxiety and uncertainty, which, if not managed, can weaken their motivation to interact with strangers and hinder the educational process. Participants in the Merdeka Student Exchange Program manage anxiety and uncertainty to achieve effective communication. This study aims to explain how anxiety and uncertainty management, based on William Gudykunst's theory, affects the communication effectiveness of inbound students in the Merdeka Student Exchange Program at Untidar and UKI. Using a mixed-method approach with an explanatory sequential design, the research found that the management of anxiety and uncertainty has a positive and significant effect on communication effectiveness, accounting for 73.5% at Untidar and 83.4% at UKI. A key finding is that location and host culture are determining factors; a strong local culture facilitates identification and social categorization, which reduces uncertainty for exchange students. These results reinforce the application of AUM theory in the context of Indonesian student exchange programs and provide practical and social contributions for building effective intercultural communication.

Abstract

The digitalization of information has reshaped how people consume and interpret health information. In Indonesia, the rapid increase of internet users has encouraged the public to seek health knowledge online, often leading to self-diagnose and excessive anxiety known as Cyberchondria. Although existing studies discuss this phenomenon, most emphasize psychological correlations rather than audience interpretation, leaving a theoretical gap regarding how mental health content on social media is received. This study addresses that gap by analyzing audience reception of the “Fact Psikologi” content on the TikTok account @afityaputri, which may trigger Cyberchondria. Employing a qualitative method with Stuart Hall’s reception analysis, the research identifies audience decoding positions (dominant hegemonic, negotiated, and oppositional) and Cyberchondria dimensions (compulsion, distress, excessiveness, seeking reassurance, and mistrust of medical professionals). The findings indicate that most participants occupy a negotiated position, considering the content educational and relevant, yet anxiety-inducing and prone to promoting excessive information seeking. Theoretically, this research expands Stuart Hall’s reception theory within digital media and mental health contexts. In conclusion, the TikTok content is ambivalent, informative yet capable of provoking Cyberchondria, emphasizing the importance of developing critical digital literacy among audiences.

Abstract

This research aims to examine how the song “Berakhir di Aku” by Idgitaf represent the emotional realities and struggles of Sandwich Generation, especially among Generation Z, and how the use of social media platforms TikTok and Instagram facilitates expression and interaction within this group. The study employs a qualitative descriptive method with a virtual ethnography approach, collecting data through virtual interviews, observation of social media content, and literature review. Data analysis is conducted using Cyber Media Analysis, which explores various levels of digital interaction. The findings indicate that “Berakhir di Aku” serves as a significant medium for emotional release and self-reflection, while TikTok and Instagram function as virtual spaces that support the process of self-acceptance through diverse forms of expression and communication among members of the Sandwich Generation. This study contributes by finding that social media is not only used as a means of entertainment, but has an important function as a space for emotional support and identity socialization, which facilitates the process of self-acceptance among members of the Sandwich Generation, through intense virtual interactions.

Abstract

Inclusive education promotes equitable learning opportunities for all students, including those with disabilities. Although Indonesia has established legal frameworks supporting inclusion, such as UU No. 19/2011 and UU No. 8/2016, practical implementation remains hindered by infrastructural and sociocultural barriers. This study investigates how university students’ awareness of inclusive education influences their willingness to volunteer in inclusive initiatives, employing the Theory of Reasoned Action (TRA) as the analytical framework. Utilizing a quantitative approach, data were collected from 468 undergraduate students across 65 universities in the Greater Bandung area and analyzed using Partial Least Squares Structural Equation Modeling (PLS-SEM) via SmartPLS 4. The results indicate that awareness significantly influences attitudes (β=0.233), subjective norms (β=0.626), and willingness to volunteer (β=0.260), with subjective norms exerting the strongest effect on willingness (β=0.462). Furthermore, awareness indirectly enhances willingness through subjective norms. These findings underscore the critical role of social influence and informed understanding in fostering inclusive engagement, suggesting that universities should strengthen awareness-building and peer-based initiatives to promote inclusive education.
