Abstract

Stunting is a disorder of growth and development in children due to long-term malnutrition. In Pabelan Hamlet 4 there are 9 children and 1 is suffering from malnutrition which results in stunted growth and development. One of the initiatives implemented in Pabelan 4 Hamlet is the monthly Supplementary Food Provision (SFP) program. However, this step has not been effective. Therefore, a more holistic approach is needed to address this problem comprehensively. This condition is the background for the KKN PPMT X team to provide assistance to the Mawar Putih 5 integrated health service post in Pabelan 4 Hamlet through social media management in an effort to prevent stunting. The implementation method of KKN PPMT X uses a socialization approach on social media management, training in creating accounts, videos, and posters using artificial intelligence technology, as well as assistance and evaluation in the form of checking and monitoring social media accounts. The results of the mentoring and evaluation showed that the schedule and management for uploading video content and posters uploaded on social media had begun to be structured, and there was an increase in the number of visits to the Mawar Putih 5 integrated health post from 60% to 100%. KKN PPMT X proved that with an approach through social media, Mawar Putih 5 integrated health service post was able to reduce stunting rates in Pabelan 4 Hamlet by providing interesting content for education in the wider community.

Abstract

Dengue Hemorrhagic Fever (DHF) is a public health problem that remains a threat, especially in tropical regions like Indonesia. Miruek Lamreudeup Village is an area at high risk of dengue fever transmission due to the environment that supports the breeding of the Aedes aegypti mosquito. This community service activity aims to increase public knowledge and awareness through education and concrete actions to prevent dengue fever. The implementation method includes counseling, distribution of abate powder, and distribution of dengue prevention pocket books to 45 participants consisting of heads of families, housewives, and youth. Evaluation was carried out with a pre-test and post-test using a multiple-choice questionnaire. The pre-test results showed that all participants (100%) were in the low knowledge category. After the education, there was a significant increase, with 80% of participants reaching the high knowledge category and 20% the moderate category. In addition to increasing knowledge, this activity also stimulated active community participation in discussions and direct implementation of mosquito larvae control in their respective homes. This activity has proven effective in increasing public awareness and understanding of dengue fever prevention. The suggested follow-up plan includes the formation of jumantik cadres, post-activity monitoring, and collaboration with village governments and health centers to create sustainable prevention efforts.

Abstract

Fish and other agro-marine products are important sources of high-quality protein, essential amino acids, omega-3 fatty acids, vitamins, and minerals. However, immigrant communities may experience changes in dietary habits due to limited access to familiar food ingredients, affordability issues, and adaptation to new food environments. This community service program aimed to improve nutritional literacy and practical skills in healthy agro-marine food processing among Indonesian immigrant communities in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia. The program was conducted in June 2024 through collaboration among Management and Science University, Universiti Muhammadiyah Malaysia, the Muhammadiyah Special Branch (PCIM) of Malaysia in Kuala Lumpur, and the community service team. The activity involved 20 participants and was implemented through five stages: socialization, practical training, technology application, evaluation assistance, and sustainability planning. Program outputs included nutrition education on fish consumption, demonstrations of healthier processing methods such as steaming, boiling, and grilling, introduction of fish-product diversification, utilization of agro-marine by-products, a processing guidebook, and digital learning materials. Evaluation through observation, discussion, and participant feedback indicated that the program helped participants understand the nutritional value of fish and recognize healthier and more economically productive processing alternatives. Continuous mentoring is recommended to strengthen long-term dietary improvement and community-based entrepreneurship.

Abstract

Plant cultivation using the hydroponic system has many advantages with planting techniques without using soil media so that it is suitable for application in limited land. The hydroponic farming system can be introduced to students as a form of environmental learning. One of the educational institutions that implements environmental-based learning is the Aminah Nature School in Sukoharjo Regency, Central Java. The purpose of the community service activities carried out by the Universitas Sebelas Maret Agricultural Extension Research Group is to provide assistance to students so that their knowledge and skills increase in their ability to apply plant cultivation using the hydroponic method. The method of implementing activities with several stages includes preparation, implementation and evaluation of activities. Preparation is carried out by identifying problems, discussions and coordination as well as preparation for making training materials. Implementation of activities by conducting socialization and training for students about the hydroponic farming system in cultivating pakcoy vegetables. Training is also carried out by inviting students to practice directly in making a simple hydroponic farming system installation by utilizing plastic bottle waste. The activities that have been carried out are then evaluated to assess the extent of the success of the implementation of the activities and can be used as material for improvement for subsequent activities. This mentoring activity is expected to increase students' awareness of environmental management and increase their creativity in processing waste into useful items.

Abstract

Household waste management at the village level remains a challenge due to limited facilities, low community participation, and the suboptimal implementation of community-based waste management systems. Sunyalangu Village, Karanglewas District, Banyumas Regency, with an estimated waste generation of approximately ±200 kg/day, did not yet have an adequate Temporary Waste Storage Facility (TPS), resulting in poorly coordinated waste management practices. This community service program aimed to strengthen the community-based waste management system through the construction of a TPS, the provision of waste segregation facilities, and community education and assistance. The program was implemented over one month involving 50 residents, the Community Self-Help Group (KSM), and village officials through initial surveys, TPS construction, education, assistance, and program evaluation using pre-test and post-test questionnaires, observations, and interviews. The results showed the successful construction of one segregated TPS unit managed by the village KSM. Community participation in household waste segregation increased from 35% to 70%, regular TPS utilization increased from 30% to 65%, and community involvement in village clean-up activities increased from 40% to 68%. Community knowledge regarding waste management also improved, particularly related to waste types, the importance of waste segregation, and the function of the TPS. Observation results further indicated a reduction in illegal waste disposal practices within the village environment. Although the volume of managed waste has not yet been quantitatively measured, improvements in facilities, community participation, and governance indicate that the community-based approach has the potential to support a more structured and sustainable village waste management system.
