Abstract

The global demand for patchouli oil as a raw material in the perfume industry is considerably high. However, the supply from exporting countries, particularly Indonesia, remains suboptimal. Aceh Province, one of Indonesia's key producers of patchouli oil, has been expanding its patchouli farming areas as a strategy to enhance productivity. Nevertheless, not all agricultural lands are suitable for patchouli cultivation. Therefore, it is essential to identify agricultural land resources that are ideal and sustainable for patchouli farming. The utilization of new potential lands could positively impact patchouli oil productivity. Land identification and mapping were carried out through observations and by utilizing candidate land indicator instruments. These indicators include land quality, land type, accessibility, land security systems, drainage systems, water sources, groundwater quality, and vulnerability to natural disasters. This article outlines the stages of community engagement activities conducted to identify the potential for patchouli farming in Teuladan Village, Lembah Seulawah Subdistrict, Aceh Besar Regency. The process involved program socialization, focus group discussions (FGDs), and interviews with farmers using candidate land surveys. The findings indicate that the agricultural land in Teuladan Village is suitable for sustainable patchouli cultivation. With the availability of ideal land and sufficient knowledge of proper patchouli cultivation practices, it is anticipated that high-quality patchouli oil can be produced. This will directly contribute to improving the welfare of the local community, particularly the farmers in Teuladan Village.

Abstract

The need to improve the understanding of students  of  Mechanical Enginnering regarding the concepts of Occupational Safety and Health (OSH) in English is important, considering that this material has only been provided in Indonesian. The lack of mastery of English vocabulary related to OSH poses a serious challenge for students in preparing themselves to compete in the job market, which increasingly demands foreign language skills. Students receive explanations related to OSH in English, vocabulary drilling, pretest, and post-test. The average pretest score obtained by students is 49.2, indicating that the initial understanding level of students is still low. However, after the treatment, the average post-test score increased significantly to 76.1. This increase in average score indicates an improvement in students' understanding of OSH vocabulary material in English.

Abstract

Low financial administrative literacy stands as a primary determinant impeding the acceleration of Good Agricultural Practices (GAP) standards adoption within smallholder farming structures. This community service program aims to improve the management skills of the Setia Tani Farmer Group in Koya Barat, Jayapura City, through the provision of a practical bookkeeping cash instrument. The implementation methodology integrated andragogical approaches and participatory training operationalized across five distinct phases, synergized organically with Local Agricultural Extension Officers (PPL). Evaluation metrics indicated an absolute transformation in partners' cognitive capacity, validated by a leap in comprehension scores from 76% to 100% in the post-test. Within the psychomotor dimension, the partners' mechanistic skills in classifying capital components, recording cash flows, and accurately calculating final balances achieved a score range of 4 to 5 (good to very good category). The managerial impact is reflected in the institutionalization of financial accountability that reduces operational cost inefficiencies, whereas the social impact is demonstrated by the strengthening of institutional social capital and collective readiness to meet the traceability requirements for GAP certification.

Abstract

The environment faces many important issues that must be resolved immediately because they can negatively impact various forms of life, including humans. One common problem is the lack of maintenance, which leads to the decline of forest areas and marginal land. Since plants play a vital role in human life, conservation and reforestation efforts are necessary to restore the land and maintain the balance of life. This activity aims to raise environmental awareness among the younger generation through productive plant-based greening activities. Methods include focus group discussions (FGDs), planting on marginal land, and evaluation. This activity was carried out in Jayapura City in collaboration with the Papua Environmental Council (MLH) and the Papua Province chapter of the Muhammadiyah Student Association (IPM). The practical planting activity with productive plants took place on barren land in the Koya Barat area of the Muhammadiyah apartment complex in Jayapura City. Based on the evaluation results, it was found that, before the activity, participants had a good understanding of basic environmental knowledge, reaching 96%. This increased to 100% after the activity. Understanding of protecting the environment and biological resources increased by 26.16%, rising from 76.44% to 96.44%. Understanding of land rehabilitation and reforestation increased by an average of 79.17%, rising from 57.33% to 97.33%. These increases are significant because they demonstrate substantial improvement. Participants responded positively to the material, with 84.8% strongly agreeing and 15.25% agreeing

Abstract

Purple roselle (Hibiscus sabdariffa L.) is a medicinal plant rich in anthocyanins and flavonoids, which function as natural antioxidants capable of neutralizing free radicals and preventing degenerative diseases. However, the community of Desa Pondok continues to use purple roselle sparingly, both for its health benefits and its economic potential. This community service program aimed to improve the knowledge and skills of PKK cadres and health volunteers in Desa Pondok in processing purple roselle into functional herbal tea. The program was conducted in four stages: a health education session on the benefits of roselle; training in the preparation of simplisia; a herbal tea-making workshop; and the introduction of simple digital marketing strategies. Evaluation was conducted through pre- and posttests and participant satisfaction questionnaires. The results showed a significant improvement in participants’ understanding, with the average pretest score of 57 rising to 96.67 in the posttest (p=0.000). Additionally, the level of community satisfaction with the overall implementation of the activity reached 97.88%, with an average satisfaction index of 4.89, indicating high satisfaction. The training not only equipped participants with technical skills but also opened opportunities for developing local herbal-based businesses. This activity proved effective in promoting the use of local natural resources and increasing community awareness of the importance of consuming natural antioxidants.
