Abstract

Menstrual hygiene is critical for preventing adverse health outcomes, yet many adolescent girls in low and middle-income countries, including Indonesia, face barriers such as inadequate knowledge, limited access to sanitary materials, and cultural taboos, increasing their risk of reproductive tract infections. This study aims to determine the prevalence of bad menstrual hygiene and its association with sibling support and information exposure among early adolescent girls in Banten Province, Indonesia. This cross-sectional study involved 367 early adolescent girls aged 12–15 years who had experienced menarche, selected using a simple random sampling technique. Data were analyzed using multivariable logistic regression. The prevalence of bad menstrual hygiene was 53.68% (197/367). Sibling support (adjusted OR = 0.92, 95% CI: 0.85–0.99, p = 0.045) was a protective factor, while information exposure (adjusted OR = 2.79, 95% CI: 1.81–4.30, p < 0.001) significantly increased the risk of bad menstrual hygiene. A high prevalence of bad menstrual hygiene was observed among early adolescent girls in Banten Province. Strengthening sibling support and improving information exposure could be effective strategies to enhance menstrual hygiene management.

Abstract

An effort that might be made to prevent complications of Diabetes Mellitus (DM) is by increasing peripheral blood circulation through the Buerger Allen exercise (BAE). Previous studies recommend reviewing the standard procedure of the BAE. Research related to the review of the effectiveness of BAE application on type 2 DM, which is summarized from various studies in latest original research is still lacking. The aim of this study is to describe the standard form of the Buerger Allen implementation that has been evaluated its effectiveness in patients with type 2 DM patients with complications. This literature review was performed with PICO keywords in 4 databases, including PubMed, Springer Link, Wiley Online Library, and Google Scholar in 2011-2022. We have concluded that the standard procedure for implementing the BAE consists of 5 stages and three main steps for each cycle. The steps are supine position (pre-exercise), elevation, Hanging, flexion-extension, and horizontal (post-exercise) steps. Each session consists of at least 3 to 6 cycles with approximately 30 minutes. Fifteen articles analyzed showed significant changes in lower peripheral perfusion of patients with type 2 DM. BAE is a simple non-pharmacological intervention that is considered an effective method for managing lower peripheral perfusion.

Abstract

The World Health Organization (WHO) reports an increase in contraceptive use in various parts of the world. However, the use of contraceptive implants is still the lowest, at only 7.3%. In Indonesia, the use of Long-Term Contraceptive Methods (MKJP), including implants, is still lower than the use of non-MKJP. Preliminary study at UPTD. The Klungkung I Community Health Center shows that there are still many couples of childbearing age (PUS) who have not used contraception, namely 47.62%. This study aims to determine the factors associated with PUS participation in the use of implantable contraceptives in the UPTD in the working area of Klungkung I Community Health Center. The type of research is analytical observational with a cross-sectional approach. The sample size was 54 respondents. The results of the study using the Fisher-exact test showed the characteristics of parity p<0.05, husband's support p<0.05, and knowledge p<0.05. The conclusion of this research is that there is a relationship between parity, husband's support, and knowledge with the participation of couples of childbearing age in the use of contraceptive implants in the UPTD work area. Abstract

Inadequacy of current practices of routine thermal care for heat loss prevention in preterm infants leads to an additional need for immediate hypothermia prevention following delivery and during NICU admission. Plastic bag wrapping has been proven effectively to prevent the hypothermia in preterm infants. A review aimed to investigate the effectiveness of plastic bag wrapping toward hypothermia prevention in preterm infants after birth and during NICU admission. A review was performed by searching of RCT trials using CINAHL, Pubmed, Medline, and EBSCOHost and published in English between January 2013 and August 2023 related to plastic bag or plastic wrap or vinyl bag or polyethylene bag or polyethylene covering, core temperature, and hypothermia. Quasi-experimental studies and randomized controlled trials (RCTs) are included in this study. This study included 10 trials involving 1704 preterm infants: 8 trials reported on poststabilization temperature and incidence of hypothermia, 2 trials showed hypothermia, and one trial in poststabilization temperature for the outcome. Most studies conducted plastic wrap on preterm neonates < 28 weeks of gestational age and for 1-2 hours. Nine studies revealed that plastic bag wrapping was associated with a decline in hypothermia insidences, the higher temperature on baseline and poststabilization temperature compared with routine care or other thermal care. A plastic bag is considered an effective and safe additional intervention for preventing hypothermia in preterm infants less than 28 weeks of gestational age. However, further study could be ensured by performing better-designed studies and a longer follow-up period.

Abstract

Coronary Artery Disease (CAD) is the leading cause of mortality worldwide. Catheterization using the transradial arterial (TRA) technique has been able to reduce morbidity and mortality rates from CAD, but this procedure also contributes to the occurrence of complications. This study aims to search the literature and analyse articles discussing the use of hand exercise to improve limb function in patients after trans-radial cardiac catheterization.  The design used was a systematic review with PRISMA adaptation. Articles were searched using databases: ScienceDirect, Proquest, PubMed, Scopus and Hand Searching in Google Scholar. The results are discussing 7 articles published from 2013-2023. Hand exercises are useful for restoring limb function within two hours after the procedure and over a long period. To deliver nursing interventions that reduce pain, oedema, and bleeding in CHD patients undergoing trans-radial cardiac catheterization, it is established that hand exercise can develop into an evidence-based reference. Long-term hand exercise training can also enhance endothelial function, which controls blood vessel vasoconstriction and dilatation. This enhances circulation during activity, improves grip function, and enhances extremities function.

Abstract

Cancer is a cellular disease characterised by disruption or failure of multi-application regulatory mechanisms and other homeostasis functions in multicellular organisms. Basically, cancer can occur due to genetic changes (mutations), especially in the gene that regulates growth, namely oncogenes. Self-concept is a mental representation that a person has of who they are, including self-assessment, body image, self-esteem, and social roles. For women with cervical cancer, their self-concept is often disrupted due to physical, emotional, and social changes that occur during the treatment process Objective: This study uses a systematic review approach to examine the effect of SEFT on the formation of self-concept of patients with cancer. This literature study uses search engine databases namely ProQuest, ScienceDirect, Pubmed, and Scopus, with article publications ranging from 2018 to 2024. The literature search strategy involved keywords related to the topic and title of the study, namely: "Massage" OR "foot massage" OR "reflexiology" AND "Fatigue" AND "Haemodialysis" OR "Chronic kidney disease" AND "Randomised Control" OR "Clinical Trial". 6 articles showing effective results of SEFT application in various populations. The results of this literature study show that SEFT therapy has been shown to improve the self-concept of patients with cancer. The Spiritual Emotional Freedom (SEFT) technique has shown a promising effect on cancer patients' self-concept by addressing emotional and spiritual well-being.

Abstract

Modern lifestyles often encourage frequent consumption of fast food and reduced physical activity, both of which contribute to the development of various diseases, including hypertension. This study aims to analyze the effect of warm water foot soak therapy with salt, lemongrass, and Ar-Rahman murottal on blood pressure in hypertension sufferers. The research adopts a pre-experimental design with a one-group pretest-posttest approach. The study population consisted of 45 respondents, with 41 participants selected through simple random sampling. This therapy was administered three times per week for 12 minutes per session. Research instruments included a sphygmomanometer, observation sheets, and standard operating procedures (SOP). Data were subjected to normality testing, and as they were not normally distributed, they were analyzed using the Wilcoxon test. The results indicate that, prior to intervention, 70.7% of respondents experienced Stage 2 hypertension, while 29.3% had Stage 1 hypertension. Post-intervention, 56.1% of respondents exhibited Stage 1 hypertension, and 7.3% achieved normal blood pressure. The statistical analysis yielded a significant p-value of 0.000 (p < 0.05), confirming the effectiveness of this therapy in lowering blood pressure among hypertensive patients. The warm saltwater and lemongrass foot soak promoted vasodilation, improving blood circulation, while the murottal of Surah Ar-Rahman provided a calming and relaxing effect, positively influencing physiological responses and contributing to blood pressure reduction.

Abstract

Chronic Kidney Disease (CKD) is a progressive and irreversible kidney function disorder, characterized by a glomerular filtration rate of <15 ml/minute/1.73 m², thus affecting an individual's health and quality of life. Therefore, it is important to examine the effect of self-management on quality of life in chronic kidney disease patients undergoing hemodialysis. Researchers conducted a systematic review of the quality of life of kidney failure patients undergoing dialysis. This scoping review aims to determine the effect of self-management on improving quality of life. This systematic review uses the PICOS framework method to search for articles in databases such as ScienceDirect, PubMed, and Google Scholar. The articles used were 10 articles with a time period of 2020-2024, and the type of research used was randomized controlled trial and quasi-experimental. The results of the study showed that the self-management scale and quality of life before the intervention were low, while the intensity after the intervention was given was good. Self-management has a positive influence on improving the quality of life scale in chronic kidney disease patients undergoing hemodialysis based on the concept of cognitive behavior. It is hoped that self-management can be a recommendation in services at health facilities to improve the health status of chronic kidney disease patients undergoing hemodialysis.
