Abstract

The World Health Organization (WHO) identifies vulnerable groups during natural disasters as including children, pregnant women, the elderly, individuals with chronic illnesses or immune disorders, and those suffering from malnutrition. Individuals with chronic illnesses are particularly vulnerable during disasters due to health condition disruptions and interruptions in routine healthcare access caused by the disaster. Consequently, these groups face an elevated risk of infectious diseases, respiratory problems, skin integrity issues, and even mortality compared to the general population. According to WHO, chronic illnesses include diabetes mellitus, hypertension, stroke, heart disease, and kidney failure. The family plays a crucial role in mitigating these challenges through preparedness, which involves providing information to family members, influencing timely and appropriate decision-making, and serving as a source of social support. Therefore, research is necessary to evaluate the role of families in managing health among members with chronic illnesses. This encompasses assessing the family’s knowledge and skills in health management and developing strategies to enhance these competencies to improve health outcomes for chronic illness-affected families.

Abstract

Various strategies have been implemented to improve knowledge and self-care management in patients with Type 2 Diabetes Mellitus (T2DM). Among these, Diabetes Self-Management Education (DSME) programs have demonstrated positive effects on patients’ knowledge and self-care behaviors. This systematic review aims to evaluate the impact of DSME on enhancing knowledge and self-care behaviours among patients with T2DM. The review was conducted following the Preferred Reporting Items for Systematic Reviews and Meta-Analyses (PRISMA) guidelines. Literature searches were performed across multiple databases, including ScienceDirect, ProQuest, PubMed, and Google Scholar. Inclusion criteria comprised articles published between 2020 and 2024, written in English or Indonesian, and published in reputable national or international journals. The search keywords used were “DSME” AND “knowledge” AND “self-care behavior.” Ten articles meeting the inclusion criteria were reviewed. The findings indicate that DSME significantly improves patients’ understanding of diabetes and promotes positive changes in self-care behaviors, suggesting its effectiveness as a critical component in diabetes management. This systematic review supports the integration of DSME programs into nursing practice to enhance outcomes for patients with T2DM.

Abstract

Nurses need proper self-management to deal with emotions caused by burnout. One of the meditations that nurses can do is focus attention or mindfulness. Mindfulness is a form of self-regulation strategy that involves focusing attention, responding to thoughts, sensations, and emotions with an attitude of acceptance, without judgment, and being aware of current situations and events. This study aimed to examine a mindfulness intervention that can reduce burnout in intensive care nurses. Design study: a systematic review. The sample used was intensive care nurses, and the variables are mindfulness intervention and burnout. Mindfulness-based interventions (yoga or meditation, music therapy, cognitive relaxation, breathing relaxation, and stress management). We searched using four databases published through February 2024. A total of 15 RCT and quasi-experimental studies were included in the final analysis. Mindfulness-based interventions (yoga or meditation, music therapy, cognitive relaxation, breathing relaxation, and stress management). Effective mindfulness programs are generally carried out for 12-8 weeks with weekly meetings for 2 hours and intensive training between meetings. Overall, the modalities appeared to alleviate and reduce burnout (p<0.001). Mindfulness-based interventions appear to alleviate and can reduce burnout in intensive care nurses. Future studies look at mindfulness-based interventions among nurses using more rigorous approaches and larger samples.

Abstract

Data from two puskesmas in Tuban Regency with the number of high-risk pregnant women, namely the Merak Urak Health Center, in 2019-2020 obtained 104 pregnant women, and the Palang Health Center obtained 213 pregnant women. This figure has not reached the target of the 2015 MDGs of 102 per 100,000 live births and the 70 per 100,000 live births of the SDGs target in 2030. The research aims to determine the dominant factors of efforts to prevent high-risk pregnancy in pregnant women through the Family Centered Empowerment theory approach. The research design is a correlational, descriptive, cross-sectional approach. The population of all pregnant women in the working area of the Merak Urak Health Center and the Palang Health Center in Tuban Regency. The sample size uses the rule of thumb in SEM; with the maximum likelihood method, a sample of at least 150 respondents.Data collection using questionnaires was then tabulated in distribution tables and analyzed with uji statistical univariate analysis for frequency and percentage distribution and bivariate analysis with the logistic regression test to analyze the dominant factor. The results of this study are meaningful results on efforts to prevent high-risk pregnancy, namely interpersonal factors (p = 0.000) and cognitive factors (p = 0.002), based on multivariate analysis of dominant factors, which influence prevention efforts in high-risk women. Interpersonal factors are more influential than cognitive factors (OR interpersonal factors > OR cognitive factors). It can be concluded that interpersonal factors can influence the decision to prevent pregnancy.

Abstract

The inability of adolescents to complete their development and the lack of effective coping strategies can cause adolescents to engage in self-harm behavior. If left unchecked, this action can have a negative impact, so self-control is needed in the form of self-control. The purpose of this study was to determine the relationship between self-control and self-harm behavior in adolescents. The type of research used is descriptive correlation with a cross-sectional design. A total of 335 respondents were selected based on the proportionate stratified random sampling technique from a total of students in grades VII, VIII, and IX spread across 30 classes. Data collection used the Brief Self-Control Scale questionnaire and the Self-Injury Behavior Tendency questionnaire directly and was analyzed using the Spearman rank test. The results of the study showed that there was a relationship between self-control and self-harm behavior (p-value = 0.000; r = -0.569), which means that self-control and self-harm behavior have a strong relationship with a negative (opposite) relationship direction. The higher the self-control, the lower the self-harm behavior that is carried out. Self-control in adolescents greatly influences how adolescents behave in the situations they face, so it is important for adolescents to have high self-control in order to prevent self-harming behavior.

Abstract

Self-stigma, also known as internalized stigma, is the psychological burden that arises when individuals adopt society’s negative perceptions about their health condition. This phenomenon is commonly experienced by individuals with type 2 diabetes mellitus (T2DM) and can significantly affect their psychological well-being and self-care practices. This scoping review aims to map the various impacts of self-stigma on individuals with T2DM based on the most recent empirical evidence. The review followed the Arksey and O’Malley framework and adhered to PRISMA-ScR guidelines. A comprehensive search was conducted across nine databases, resulting in the inclusion of twelve primary studies. The data were analyzed thematically and narratively. Self-stigma was found to have multidimensional effects, encompassing psychological aspects, behavioral aspects, clinical consequences and quality of life. Contextual factors such as age, duration of diabetes, gender, and BMI influenced the degree of self-stigma experienced. Self-stigma poses a substantial barrier to effective T2DM management. Psychosocial interventions that promote self-efficacy and social support are essential to mitigate its negative effects and enhance patients’ overall health outcomes

Abstract

Stroke patients frequently experience verbal communication impairments due to orofacial muscle weakness and reduced respiratory control. These conditions significantly affect their quality of life and social interactions. This study aimed to evaluate the effectiveness of lip exercise and blowing pipe interventions in improving verbal communication among stroke patients. A pre-experimental study with a pre-test and post-test design was conducted at a public hospital's inpatient ward. A total of 21 stroke patients were selected using purposive sampling. The intervention group received a structured program of lip exercise and blowing pipe therapy twice daily for 5 days. Verbal communication ability was measured using the Frenchay Dysarthria Assessment (FDA) scale. Data were analyzed using a paired t-test. There was a significant improvement in verbal communication scores in the intervention group (p < 0.05), while no significant changes were observed in the control group. The combined therapy demonstrated effectiveness in enhancing articulation, breath control, and overall verbal expression. Lip exercise and blowing pipe interventions are effective, simple, and low-cost therapies that significantly improve verbal communication in stroke patients.

Abstract

Medication adherence and disease recurrence rates in asthma patients greatly affect the patient's quality of life. Knowledge of factors that influence medication adherence and disease recurrence rates can significantly impact physical health and, consequently, patient quality of life. This study aims to identify factors that influence medication adherence and disease recurrence rates in patients with asthma. This study employed a descriptive analytical method with a multiple linear design. Data collection was conducted from July 5 to 30, 2025. Assessment of medication adherence was done by the Medication Adherence Report Scale (MARS) questionnaire and evaluation of disease recurrence rates using asthma recurrence questionnaires. The results of data analysis using multiple linear tests showed that factors influencing medication adherence in asthma patients were gender (29.35%), education (14.48%), and the triggers for relapse (21.34%). Factors that influence the rate of disease recurrence in asthma patients are education (17.5%), occupation (14.2%), and the triggers for relapse (76.1%). Based on the study's results, several factors similar to those influencing medication adherence and disease recurrence rates were identified, including education and the triggers for relapse.

Abstract

Nurse performance in inpatient wards is a key factor in determining the quality of hospital services. Effective motivation and employee engagement are crucial strategies for improving employee morale and loyalty. The objective of the research is to analyze the influence of work motivation and employee engagement levels on nurse performance in the inpatient wards of a Regional Public Hospital (RSUD). This research used the quasi-experimental pre-post test with a control group design, where the intervention group was given motivation training for 2 days, modules, and mentoring, while the control group was only given modules, with a total sample of 160, 80 nurse respondents in the intervention group, and 80 nurse respondents in the control group. Data analysis using paired sample T-tests and independent sample T-tests. There is a difference in the average increase in nurse performance before and after being given employee engagement motivation (p-value = 0.000). There is a difference in the increase in nurse performance after being given training, modules, and motivational mentoring in the intervention group of 35.36 compared to the control group given the motivation module of 11.1 (p-value = 0.000). meaning there is a significant influence after being given employee engagement motivation training on improving nurse performance in the intervention group. Nurse motivation and employee engagement in providing nursing care are effective in improving the performance of inpatient ward nurses in hospitals.
