Abstract

USING THREE TWO ONE TECHNIQUE TO IMPROVE THE BIOGRAPHICAL RECOUNT TEXT READING SKILL OF THE TENTH GRADERS OF SMA N 3 MAGELANG IN THE SCHOOL YEAR 2018/2019 Titin NurhayatiEnglish Department Faculty Of Education And Teachers’ Training,Tidar Universitytitinnurha1996@gmail.com ABSTRACT                 Reading skill is one of the fundamental skills that has to be mastered by students. It is the ability to understand the written form of the language. The students have to be able comprehend and understand the text. In fact the tenth graders of SMA Negeri 3 Magelang in the school year 2018/2019 have less motivation in learning biographical recount text reading skill and low reading skill of biographical recount text. It is proven by the mean score of biographical recount text reading skill test which is 69 which is still lower than the minimum requirement standard score which is 75. The writer conducted a Classroom Action Research (CAR) in order to know how great is the increase of motivation in learning biographical recount text reading skill and to know how great is the improvement of the biographical recount text reading skill of the tenth graders of SMA N 3 Magelang in the school year 2018/2019 after being taught by using Three Two One Technique.   The subject of the research was X IPA 1 of SMA N 3 Magelang in the school year 2018/2019. The writer uses quantitative data analysis techniques that is test technique and qualitative data analysis technique that is non-test technique (observation, questionnaire, and documentation). The students’ test average scores of biographical recount text reading skill improve after being taught using Three Two One Technique. In the Pre-Cycle the average score 69.32, then improves in Cycle 1 become 89.28, and in Cycle 2 become 93.41. Thus, there is improvement from Pre- Cycle to Cycle 2 that is 24.09 point. The students’ motivation in learning biographical recount text reading skill also increases. It is proven by the results of observation that increase 24.09% from Pre-Cycle to Cycle 2. Then, the results of questionnaire increase 30.66% from Pre-Cycle to Cycle 2.Based on the above results, the writer concludes that the use of Three Two One Technique can increase the students’ motivation in learning biographical recount text reading skill and improve the students’ biographical recount text reading skill. The writer suggests both of the teacher and the students to use Three Two One Technique as an alternative in teaching and learning process of biographical recount text reading skill.Keywords: Reading Skill, Biographical Recount Text, Three Two One Technique

Abstract

This research is conducted to identifying the used concrete and abstract noun in Charlotte's Web Novel by E.B White. The main focus of this research to find concrete and abstract noun from Charlotte's Web Novel. An abstract noun is a word that expresses ideas, feelings, situations that can imagine and feel but can't be touched by our senses. A concrete noun tangible word that can be seen with our senses can be touched and can be observed. The type of this research is used the descriptive qualitative method. This research was conducted by analyzing and identifying the use of concrete and abstract nouns that most often appear in Charlotte's Web novel. This research employs descriptive qualitative research. To analyze the data, the researcher uses several steps; the first is reading the novel's, the second is identifying and collecting the data, third is writing all of the data in the paper. The result of this study shows that there are 273 total numbers of abstract nouns, the most abstract nouns that appeared in this novel word "Life" there are 36 words. There is 2.799 total number of concrete nouns, the most concrete nouns that appeared in this novel word "Wilbur" as a name of a person.

Abstract

Writing is one of the four language skills and very important in language learning. The eighth graders of MTs Negeri Windusari in the school year 2018/2019 are ones of those who face some difficulties in writing recount text. Mistake Buster is offered as a technique to improve their learning motivation and skill in writing recount text. The objectives of this research are to know whether the use of Mistake Buster technique can increase the recount text writing learning motivation of the eighth graders and to know how great the improvement of the recount text writing skill of the eighth graders who are taught by using Mistake Buster technique is.The writer did the research through three phases; they are Pre- Cycle, Cycle 1, and Cycle 2. The data of this research are collected from the students’ written test, questionnaire, observation, and documentation. All the data are analyzed using both qualitative and quantitative data analysis technique. The result of research shows that Mistake Buster technique give great improvement on the students’ learning motivation and skill in writing recount text.

Abstract

The study's objectives are to know what kinds of personal pronoun used in the novel and know which personal pronoun has the highest distribution. This article focuses on the personal pronoun. Frank (1972: 19) states that personal pronouns are divided into five, namely subjective pronouns, objective pronouns, possessive pronouns, possessive adjective pronouns, and reflexive pronouns. The function of a personal pronoun is to identify or refer to someone or the gender of that person. In writing, this can help readers understand the storyline more easily, to whom it is pointing, and the gender of the person without needing to tell him. This research is qualitative research designed in a descriptive study. The source of data is from the novel by Sir Arthur Conan Doyle, "Sherlock Holmes: The Sign of Four." The writer will analyze the use of the personal pronoun in the novel. It is found that the use of the personal pronoun in a novel is varies depending on the function.

Abstract

Writing is considered as one of the difficult English skills to be mastered. The descriptive text writing skill of the tenth graders of SMA Tarakanita Magelang in the school year 2018/2019 is not satisfactory. This condition is caused by low motivation and the teacher does not use any technique in teaching descriptive.There were two main objectives in the research. The first is to know whether Double Bubble Map Technique could increase the learning motivation of the descriptive text writing skill. The second is to know how great the improvement of the descriptive text writing skill after been taught by using Double Bubble Map technique of the tenth graders of SMA Tarakanita Magelang in the school year 2018/2019 is.The writer conducted a classroom action research. It was divided into Pre-Cycle, Cycle I, and Cycle II. To collect the data, the writer used non test (observation, questionnaires, and documentation) and writing test.Based on the writer’s observation and questionnaires, it showed that most students had behavioral change. Their learning motivation increased after the writer did some treatment in Cycle I and Cycle II by using Double Bubble Map technique. There more students that paid attention and were active in learning process of descriptive text writing skill. The students got better score in descriptive writing test.  It proved that students understood the writer’s explanation.

Abstract

The study aims to analyse the article in "The Body in The Library" written by Agatha Christie. "The Body in The Library" is a fiction crime about an old amateur detective, Miss Marple, even though she just an old ordinary single woman who lives alone in a rural area but have a great instinct to solve the mystery. An article used to define a definite or an indefinite noun also a countable and uncountable noun. It used to know references of the noun before in the story in a novel. The method used in this research is a descriptive qualitative method that includes the stages of data collection, analysing the data and then making a conclusion about it. The analysis "The Body in The Library" written by Agatha Christie used article the, a and an. The article function in "The Body in The Library" novel by Agatha Christie refers to define and indefinite noun.

Abstract

Morphemes are the smallest part of languages that forms a word or sentence. Morphemes are root words or affixes that build a new word with a detailed meaning or new meaning. In linguistic, morphemes small part that is important to make a meaningful sentence both literally and figuratively. There are many kinds of morphemes, one of them is bound morpheme. In social media, especially Twitter, which emphasizes authorship and reading content, bound morphemes are vital to building posts or threads. Many posts or threads from this platform show us the issues in our country or around the world. More often, the issues discussed by Twitter users faster becomes a trending topic in search pages and bars. For example, a few days ago, there were controversies between two music platforms and companies. Kakao M and Spotify. This two platform does something controversial and makes them as one of trending topics in worldwide. In the posts, it contains so many morphemes that build the words and threads.  Especially the bound morpheme.

This study concludes that the readers expected to know about prefixes.

THE USE OF POPULAR SONGS TO IMPROVE THE NARRATIVE TEXT LISTENING SKILL OF THE TENTH GRADERS OF SMA TARAKANITA MAGELANG IN THE SCHOOL YEAR 2018/2019 Aldino Anjas BagaskaraEnglish Education Department, Faculty of Education and Teachers TrainingTidar Universityaldinoanjas@gmail.com ABSTRACT  Listening is one of the four language skills that is taught in junior and senior high school. However, the students’ listening skill is still far from the learning target. It can be seen from the semester test result of the tenth graders of SMA Tarakanita Magelang in the academic year of 2018/2019. The students’ average score was 58. This score is less than 75 which is the minimum standard score of learning target.There are two objectives of this research. First, it is to know how great can the use of Popular Songs can improve students’ learning motivation of narrative text listening skill of the tenth graders of SMA Tarakanita Magelang in the school year 2018/2019. Second, it is to know how great is the improvement of using Popular Songs in teaching students’ listening skill of narrative text of the tenth graders of SMA Tarakanita Magelang in the school year 2018/2019.The writer conducted a classroom action research by using popular songs in teaching narrative text listening. The writer took class X IPS of SMA Tarakanita Magelang as the subject of the research. The writer found that the use of popular songs can increase the students’ learning motivation. The observation percentage in Pre-Cycle is 55% and it becomes 88% in Cycle II. The total improvement is 33%. The use of Popular Songs also makes improvement in listening test. In Pre-Cycle test, the average score of listening narrative text is 59.4. After the writer applied popular songs, the students’ average score in Cycle I is 63 while in Cycle II  it reaches 81. The improvement from Pre Cycle test to Cycle I test is 4 points, and from Cycle I test to Cycle II test is 18 points. Overall the total improvement from Pre-cycle test to Cycle II test is 22 points.Based on the above explanation, the writer concludes that the use of popular songs can improve the learning motivation of the narrative text listening skill. The writer suggests English teachers to use popular songs as an alternative way of teaching listening in senior high school. To overcome the weakness of this technique, the teacher should prepare the right song that student’s hear a lot in order accomplished is objectives of the research and teacher also should give  much attention to the students who are weak in listening English.Keyword: Popular Songs, narrative text, learning motivation.

Abstract

This paper is aimed at the analysis of the emotive interjections from the interview video entitled "Stephanie Poetri Loves Playing the Sims and Is a Big Fan of Lauv!". Furthermore, it will explain the function of each emotive interjection that is found in the interview video. However, this paper uses quantitative and qualitative methods to support data analysis. Because the quantitative method will give information about the total number of the usage emotive interjections. Then the qualitative method is used for understanding the context of emotive interjection in the interview after collecting the total number of the data.
