Abstract

The demand of science learning in the global era according to the National Science Teachers Association (2006) is to prepare learners with a variety of skills and skills, one of which is critical thinking skills. In learning Biology in SMP Negeri 3 Kragan critical thinking skills have not been empowered by teachers. Efforts to improve the skills of critical thinking is with the model of learning Problem Based Learning. The purpose of this study to determine the effect of learning model Problem Based Learning on students' critical thinking skills. This research was conducted on the seventh grade students of SMP Negeri 3 Kragan. The material in this research is global warming. This type of research is a quasi-experimental research with Pretest-Posttest Control Group Design design. The sample in this research is VII A class (experimental class) and VII B class (control class), each class is 30 students. Data analysis using t test. The results showed that the average value of all aspects and indicators of critical thinking experimental class is higher than the control class. Percentage in experimental class 83,60% while in control class 76,40%. Data analysis with t test obtained sig value 0.000, so it is concluded that model of learning of Problem Based Learning influence to critical thinking skill of SMP Negeri 3 Kragan student on global warming material

Abstract

Pembelajaran biologi saat ini umumnya lebih terpusat pada dosen, dimana dosen menjadi sumber pengetahuan sehingga mahasiswa hanya mengandalkan informasi dari dosen dalam proses pembelajaran. Selain itu mahasiswa juga lebih sering menghafal konsep dan bukan menemukan konsep. Hal tersebut mengakibatkan mahasiswa menjadi pasif dan hasil belajar serta keterampilan proses sains rendah. Alternatif untuk mengatasi hal tersebut dengan menggunakan model pembelajaran guided inquiry learning dan problem based  learning. Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk mengetahui perbandingan hasil belajar filsafat pendidikan mahasiswa pendidikan biologi UMS semester 1 gasal 2018/2019 menggunakan model pembelajaran guided inquiry learning dan problem based learnin. Penelitian ini menggunakan kelas eksperimen yang menggunakan model pembelajaran Guided Inquiry Learning Dan Problem Based  Learning. Jenis penelitian ini merupakan penelitian quasi-experiment (eksperimen semu). Teknik analisis yang digunakan untuk menguji hipotesis adalah Two Independent Sample  Test (Uji Mann Withney U) yang sebelumnya dilakukan uji normalitas. Hasil penelitian menunjukkan bahwa ada perbandingan hasil belajar filsafat pendidikan mahasiswa pendidikan biologi UMS semester 1 gasal 2018/2019 menggunakan model pembelajaran guided inquiry learning dan problem based learnin. Nilai rata-rata dari kelas yang dibelajarkan dengan menggunakan model pembelajaran problem based learning sebesar 76,71 dengan nilai terendah 61,17 dan nilai tertinggi 96,70. Sedangkan nilai rata-rata dari kelas yang dibelajarkan dengan menggunakan model pembelajaran guided inquiry learning 81,50 dengan nilai terendah 66,81 dan nilai tertinggi 92,30.

Abstract

Teaching material is a collection of learning information needed by teachers and students in carrying out teaching and learning activities in class. Teaching materials in the form of printed books by utilizing the local potential of Angiosperms plants in the environment around students are not yet available at school. The purpose of this study was to determine the effectiveness of using Angiosperms materials based on ethnobotany in order to improve student learning outcomes and scientific attitudes. The teaching material development uses Hannafin and Peck's models. The study was conducted at Kurun High School 1. Sources of research data came from experts as validators, students as users of teaching materials and teachers as assessors of teaching materials. This research approach uses a mixed methods approach which is a mixture of qualitative and quantitative. Data were analyzed quantitatively and qualitatively. To see the effectiveness of teaching materials using an instrument in the form of a questionnaire assessed by validators, teachers and students. Then analyzed based on the percentage of ideals. Meanwhile, to find out the increase in student learning outcomes and scientific attitudes using N-gain. The results showed that Angiosperms material based on ethnobotany that were assessed by 2 expert validators and the students' responses showed that the teaching materials developed were of very good quality. Evaluation of biology teachers on teaching materials that have good categories and are suitable for use. The use of teaching materials developed has proven to be effective in improving student learning outcomes with the acquisition of N-gain in small-scale trials of 0.62 and large-scale trials of 0.53 in the medium category. It also can improve students' scientific attitudes by obtaining N-gain in small scale trials that is 0.53 and large scale trials that is 0.58 in the medium category

Abstract

Alelokimia merupakan metabolit sekunder yang diproduksi oleh tanaman, yang tidak terlibat langsung pada proses pertumbuhan tanaman. Alelokimia ditemukan di berbagai bagian tanaman dengan konsentrasi dan komposisi yang bervariasi, dan jalur untuk melepaskan senyawa ini ke lingkungan tergantung dari spesies tanamannya.  Tanaman dapat menggunakan alelokimia untuk berkomunikasi dengan lingkungannya.  Tujuan dari artikel ini yaitu untuk mengkaji peranan alelokimia yang diproduksi oleh tanaman pada bidang pertanian.  Hasil yang diperoleh dari kajian artikel ini yaitu bahwa alelokimia yang diproduksi oleh tanaman dapat dikeluarkan melalui akar tanaman dan volatilisasi dari bagian tanaman lain.  Alelokimia memberikan dampak positif bagi lingkungan sekitar tanaman, sehingga dapat memberikan keuntungan bagi hasil produksi tanaman.  Dampak positifnya antara lain alelokimia dapat memanagement gulma, mengatur pertumbuhan tanaman, dan juga sebagai pestisida.  Keuntungan ini dapat terjadi jika alelokimia yang diproduksi oleh tanaman dalam konsentrasi yang rendah.  Alelokimia juga menjadi sinyal bagi mikroorganisme yang bersimbiosi dengan tanaman.

Abstract

Pendekatan saintifik merupakan pembelajaran yang mengadopsi langkah-langkah saintis dalam membangun pengetahuan melalui metode ilmiah. Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk mengetahui implementasi pembelajaran pendekatan saintifik guru biologi SMA di Boyolali semester gasal tahun ajaran 2018/2019. Jenis penelitian yang digunakan  adalah deskriptif. Sampel pada penelitian ini adalah satu guru kelas X (SMA N) dan satu guru XI (SMA Swasta).  Teknik pengambilan sampel yang digunakan dalam penelitian ini adalah purposive sampling. Metode penelitian menggunakan metode observasi untuk mengamati guru saat pembelajaran selama 3 pertemuan, dibantu dengan dokumentasi video saat pembelajaran. Berdasarkan penelitian yang dilakukan diperoleh hasil bahwa implementasi pembelajaran pendekatan  saintifik guru Biologi SMA di Boyolali  semester gasal TA 2018/2019 termasuk cukup (44.75%). Pembelajaran saintifik yang digunakan adalah Discovery Learning (40.95%) termasuk cukup dan Problem Based Learning (64%) termasuk baik. Namun belum semua guru Biologi yang digunakan penelitian menggunakan kedua model pembelajaran tersebut. Guru Biologi yang sudah menggunakan kedua model tersebut implementasinya termasuk baik (64%) dan yang mengimplentasikan satu model pembelajaran termasuk katagori kurang (33.2%). Data dianalisis secara deskriptif dan berdasarkan hasil penelitian serta pembahasan dapat disimpulkan bahwa implementasi pembelajaran saintifik guru Biologi SMA di Boyolali  semester gasal TA 2018/2019 termasuk cukup (44.75%), dengan model pembelajaran  Discovery Learning dan Problem Based Learning.

Abstract

The demand for curriculum 2013 requires students to think critically in the learning process. However, the current process of learning in schools about the aspect of critical thinking has not been empowered. In addition, another aspect that has also not been considered is the cognitive style of students. The cognitive style of the students shows the variation of student learning styles. The purpose of this research is to describe critical thinking based on reflective and impulsive cognitive style on students of SMP Muhammadiyah 15 Sedayulawas class VII-B in biology study of environmental pollution subject through Think Pairs Share model and poster media. This research is a descriptive explorative research type. Subjects in this study were students of SMP Muhammadiyah 15 Sedayulawas class VII-B consisting of 9 students of reflective cognitive style and 9 students of cognitive impulsive style. Data of critical thinking ability was obtained from the critical thinking test sheet of critical thinking indicator which refers to bloom taxonomy on C3 (Applied) and C4 (Analysis) level, while cognitive style data obtained from cognitive style test refers to known cognitive style test instrument (MFFT).Data analysis technique of critical thinking ability in non parametric statistical analysis with Mann Whitney test. For analysis of cognitive style data obtained by Matching Familiar Figures Test (MFFT) test. From the results of data analysis, students with reflective cognitive styles have higher critical thinking skills compared to students of impulsive cognitive styles. Based on the result of the research, it can be concluded that the students' critical thinking ability with reflective cognitive style is better than the cognitive impulsive students after through the TPS (Think Pairs Share) learning model combined with the poster media

Abstract

The aims of this research is to determine the effect of Guided Inquiry model towards Biology learning outcomes This research is quasy experiment with posttest only with non-equivalent control group. Population in this research is all students from 5 class in XI grade MIPA of SMA Negeri 8 Surakarta. Samples of this research was taken by cluster purposive sampling technique with XI MIPA 4 as the control class and  XI MIPA 5 as the experiment class, with total participants in this research are 52 students. The experimental class uses Guided Inquiry model, meanwhile the control class uses conventional learning. Techniques of collecting data is using test, documentation, and observation. The research hypothesis test is using independent sample t-test assisted by SPSS 19 program with level of significance 0,05.  The results showed that cognitive domain has p-value 0,00 <sig. 0,004 and t-value 3,042> 1,673 t table; p-value affective domain 0,048 <sig. 0,05 and  t-value 2,023 > 1,673 t table; p-value psychomotor domain 0,00 <sig. 0,05 and t value 3,617 > 1,673 t table. Class who were learning through Guided Inquiry model, showed average value of learning outcomes is higher, compared to class who were learning through conventional model. The conclusion of this research is there is effect Guided Inquiry model towards Biology learning outcomes.

Abstract

This study aims to determine the effect of Guided Discovery Learning (GDL) model with mnemonic strategy assistance on concept understanding of motion systems. The subject of this research were students of class XI at SMAN 1 Kota Tangerang Selatan academic year 2018/2019. The number of samples consisted of 40 students in the experimental group and 39 students in the control group. This research method used a quasi-experimental research design with the control group pre-test and post-test design. The sample of this research was taken by using a random sampling technique. This research used multiple-choice test instruments as many as 18 questions and 12 description questions and non-test instruments in the form of learning and teaching observation sheets and questionnaires. The data analysis of the two groups used the Mann-Whitney test. Based on data processing shows that the Asymp.Sig (2-tailed) value is 0.000 < 0.05, means H0 is refused. This research shows that there is an effect of guided discovery learning model with mnemonic strategy assistance on concept understanding of motion system.

Abstract

Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk menguji ada tidaknya pengaruh media gambar berbasis potensi lokal dalam metode gallery walk terhadap pemahaman konsep dan sikap peduli lingkungan peserta didik.  Penelitian ini merupakan Quasy Experiment dengan Pretest-Posttest Non-equivalent Control Group Design. Kedua kelas diberikan pre-test sebelum perlakuan. Post-test diberikan pada akhir penelitian. Populasi dalam penelitian ini adalah 4 kelas X MIPA di SMA Negeri 1 Gebog. Sampel penelitian diambil dengan teknik cluster sampling dengan kelas X MIPA 1 sebagai kelas kontrol dan kelas X MIPA 3 sebagai kelas eksperimen. Kelas eksperimen menggunakan metode gallery walk dipadu media gambar berbasis media gambar berbasis potensi lokal, sedangkan kelas kontrol menggunakan metode gallery walk tanpa media gambar berbasis potensi lokal. Teknik pengumpulan data menggunakan tes, wawancara, angket, dokumentasi. Uji hipotesis penelitian menggunakan Independent Sample t-test dibantu program SPSS 19 dengan taraf signifikasi 0,050. Prosedur penelitian meliputi perencanaan, pelaksanaan, dan analisis data. Hasil penelitian menunjukkan bahwa; 1) ada pengaruh media gambar berbasis potensi lokal dalam metode gallery walk terhadap pemahaman konsep (p-value 0.011 < sig. 0.050). Peserta didik yang menggunakan metode gallery walk dipadu media gambar berbasis potensi lokal memiliki pemahaman konsep yang lebih baik daripada peserta didik yang diajarkana menggunakan metode gallery walk tanpa media gambar berbasis potensi lokal; 2) ada pengaruh media gambar berbasis potensi lokal dalam metode gallery walk terhadap sikap kepedulian lingkungan (p-value 0.006 < sig. 0.050) peserta didik yang dibelajarkan menggunakan metode gallery walk dipadu media gambar berbasis potensi lokal lebih baik dibandingkan peserta didik yang dibelajarkan menggunakan metode gallery walk tanpa media gambar berbasis potensi lokal. Kesimpulan dari penelitian ini adalah ada pengaruh media gambar berbasis potensi lokal dalam metode gallery walk terhadap pemahaman konsep dan sikap kepedulian lingkungan

Abstract

Spent brewer’s yeasts are a by product of the beer production, containing useful bioactive substances, such as proteins, amino acids, nucleotides, carbohydrates, minerals, and vitamins. Up till now,  intact  spent brewer’s yeast has been used as a supplement to animal feed. High protein content in spent brewer’s yeast (45-60% in dry weight) makes it good to be produced into yeast extract (YE) as a protein source. YE consists primarily of amino acids, peptides, nucleotides, and other soluble components, that are needed in microbiological media. This study aims to determine the differences between four physical or mechanical treatments (freezing-thawing, homogenization, glass beads, and combination of freezing-thawing and glass beads) in YE production of the cell distruption and protein content, and the quality of YE produced for microbiological media. Measurements of cell count and dissolved protein content were performed to determine the best physical method, while physical, chemical, and biological parameter measurements were performed to determine the quality of YE. The results showed that the best treatment for cell distruption was combination of freezing-thawing and glass beads with percentage of distrupted cell and soluble protein content of 99.5% and 2.779 mg / ml, respectively. YE from spent brewer's yeast contains soluble protein and α-amino nitrogen as much as 3.671 and 1.352 mg / ml, and total nitrogen and crude protein of 2.21 and 13.81 mg / ml, lower compare to commercial YE. Biological testing data YE from spent brewer's yeast has ability to increase cell density (OD) and number of colonies in E. coli, Staphylococcus epidermidis, and Saccharomyces cerevisiae D.01.Further research on the use of spent brewer’s yeast to produce YE using spent brewer’s yeast without steam and glass beads with diameter less than 0.5 mm is necessary to improve the yield and quality of the YE
