Abstract

Marriage is a social institution that plays an important role in society. However, social developments and changes in people’s mindset have led to differences in perspectives on marriage, particularly between Generation Y and Generation Z. This study aims to identify the meaning of marriage according to Generation Y and Generation Z and to analyze the factors influencing the differences in their perspectives on marriage in Palangka Raya City. This research employed a qualitative method with a descriptive approach. The informants consisted of eight individuals from Generation Y and Generation Z, including both married and unmarried participants. Informants were selected purposively based on criteria relevant to the research objectives. Data were collected through in-depth interviews, while data analysis was conducted through data reduction, data presentation, and conclusion drawing. The findings indicate that Generation Y tends to interpret marriage as an important stage of life related to social responsibility, religious values, and maturity. Meanwhile, Generation Z tends to view marriage as a life choice that requires mental, emotional, and financial readiness. These differences are influenced by economic factors, family environment, social experiences, social media, and religious values. This study shows that the meaning of marriage continues to change along with social developments and the life experiences experienced by each generation.

Abstract

The rapid development of information and communication technology has transformed the way people access, manage, and disseminate information. This study aims to analyze the ethics of information literacy among Muslim communities from the perspective of the axiology of the philosophy of science. The research employs a descriptive qualitative approach with data collected through open-ended questionnaires distributed to six respondents from diverse professional backgrounds, including civil servants, teachers, and students. Data were analyzed using thematic analysis and content analysis, and validity was ensured through theoretical triangulation by comparing respondents’ answers with concepts from the philosophy of science, information ethics, and Islamic thought. The findings indicate that the axiology of the philosophy of science emphasizes the value and beneficial use of knowledge as essential aspects of information utilization. Information literacy is not merely concerned with technical skills in accessing and evaluating information but also with ethical awareness in using information responsibly. From an Islamic perspective, the ethics of information literacy are reflected in the practice of verifying information sources, maintaining honesty in conveying information, respecting the rights and privacy of others, and utilizing information for the common good. Therefore, strengthening information literacy ethics based on Islamic values and the axiology of the philosophy of science is a strategic necessity for fostering a critical, wise, and responsible Muslim society in the digital era.

Abstract

This study examines the faith-practice gap in Islamic time ethics by explaining why values such as punctuality, commitment, amanah, and accountability, although strongly emphasized in Islamic teaching, are not always translated into consistent time-discipline behavior. Using an explanatory sequential mixed-methods design, the study analyzes survey data from 356 professionals in Muslim and Western organizational contexts and deepens the interpretation through semi-structured interviews. The quantitative phase uses PLS-SEM to test the effects of Islamic Temporal Ethics on moral internalization, institutionalization, and time-discipline behavior, while the qualitative phase explores how respondents interpret religious language, organizational rules, and multicultural time norms. The findings show that Islamic Temporal Ethics strengthens both moral internalization and institutionalization, yet its effect on time-discipline behavior operates mainly through these two mechanisms. Institutionalization appears more decisive than internalization because rules, sanctions, routines, and accountability systems stabilize ethical behavior beyond personal intention. Multicultural context moderates the process: monochronic and institutionally tight environments are more effective in transforming ethical values into visible practice. The article proposes Islamic Temporal Ethics Decoupling as a sociological concept for understanding the gap between religious ideals and everyday conduct.

Abstract

This research aims to describe and analyze the social dynamics behind the emergence of the issue of Christianization and how to form the counter of Muhammadiyah through the construction of da'wah bil-things in the face of Christianization to maintain religious identity and social harmony. Using a descriptive qualitative approach with the theory of social construction of Fathers L. Berger and Thomas Luckman, this study examines how the pattern of Christianization that develops in Bluluk, Lamongan and how Muhammadiyah responds to the dynamics of Christianization through da'wah of socially constructed things in the community. The results of this study show that the construction of dawkah bil-hal Muhammadiyah is formed through three general patterns: (1) the pattern of externalization is reflected in da'wah activities which are realized through various social actions, education, and community services that represent Islamic values in real life. (2) the pattern of objectivity is reflected in various social activities institutionalized in charity, such as the establishment of ABA Kindergarten, Al-Azhar Mosque, and TPA. (3) the pattern of internalization that occurs when Islamic values that have been institutionalized through Muhammadiyah's charity business are then instilled and lived by Muhammadiyah citizens. The three patterns interact to form an adaptive and moderate model of da'wah construction in Muhammadiyah as a response to the dynamics of Christianization in a pluralistic society. This research confirms that da'wah bil-hal is a constructive strategy of Muhammadiyah in building social harmony and strengthening the resilience of religious identity in plural areas such as Bluluk, Lamongan.

Abstract

This study aims to examine the global issue of increasing child vulnerability caused by poverty, family disintegration, and social instability, which have led to a growing need for alternative care through social service institutions. This condition requires social services that not only fulfill children's physical needs but also foster the development of their social identity as part of their integration into society. The findings indicate that the social identity of foster children is not formed naturally; rather, it is shaped through work programs implemented at the Harapan Bangsa Child Social Care Center (UPTD PSAA), which include social interaction, social guidance, personal development, and gradual social experiences. This study employed a descriptive qualitative approach. Data were collected through field observations, in-depth interviews, and documentation. The data were analyzed deductively using Henri Tajfel's Social Identity Theory, which consists of three dimensions: social categorization, social identification, and social comparison. The results show that the social identity of foster children is not formed naturally but is developed through work programs that serve as agents of social identity formation. These programs include social interaction, social guidance, personal development, and gradual social experiences implemented at the Harapan Bangsa Child Social Care Center (UPTD PSAA).

Abstract

This study discusses social solidarity at the Agung III Female Students' Dormitory in Banjarmasin, particularly regarding the dormitory administrators' strategies in enhancing social solidarity among the residents. This study aims to describe the forms of social solidarity, the strategies of dormitory management in enhancing social solidarity, as well as the supporting and inhibiting factors. The research uses a qualitative method with data collection techniques in the form of observation, interviews, and documentation. Informants were selected using purposive sampling technique. Data analysis was conducted through data reduction, data presentation, and conclusion drawing, while data validity was tested through triangulation, increase of diligence, and member checking. The research results indicate that social solidarity is formed through joint activities such as worship, mutual cooperation, cooking, and eating together, which foster a sense of togetherness, care, and cooperation among residents. Dormitory administrators enhance solidarity through activity planning, task distribution, open communication, enforcement of rules, and deliberation in conflict resolution. Supporting factors include joint activities, good communication, cooperation, and a sense of togetherness, while inhibiting factors include personal busyness, low participation, individualistic attitudes, conflicts among residents, and difficulties in adapting for new residents.

Abstract

The relationship between religion, local wisdom, and environmental sustainability is an important issue in the sociology of religion, particularly among communities that continue to uphold traditional values in their interaction with nature. Tirta Gangga Lake, as a sacred space for the Hindu community in Kampung Swastika Buana, represents how the religious values of Tri Hita Karana shape local patterns of social behavior and ecological awareness. This study aims to examine the role of Tirta Gangga Lake in shaping social behavior and ecological awareness among the Hindu community in Kampung Swastika Buana, Seputih Banyak District, Central Lampung. Using a qualitative approach with case study method, data were collected through in-depth interviews, participatory observation, and documentation. The findings indicate that Tirta Gangga Lake serves multiple functions: as a water source, center for religious activities, social interaction space, and medium for fostering ecological awareness based on Tri Hita Karana values. Analysis using Max Weber's social action theory reveals that community behavior encompasses traditional, value-rational, instrumental-rational, and affectual actions. The lake's sacredness significantly strengthens social solidarity, cooperation, and environmental responsibility.

Abstract

Flooding in West Kalimantan has become a recurring socio-ecological crisis affecting communities living along riverbanks, coastal areas, and urban settlements. This study aims to analyze the flood crisis through Michel Foucault’s perspective on power relations by examining how power operates in environmental governance, the production of disaster knowledge, and the formation of community responses to environmental vulnerability. The study employs a qualitative approach drawing on environmental sociology and Foucauldian analysis. Data were collected through in-depth interviews, observations, documentation, and a literature review involving flood-affected residents in several districts in West Kalimantan. The data were analyzed using the Miles and Huberman interactive model. The findings indicate that flooding in West Kalimantan is not merely a hydrometeorological event but is also closely related to power relations in land-use management, development policies, and environmental governance. More specifically, the study identifies four main findings. First, power relations operate through ecological spatial governance, contributing to the formation of community vulnerability to flooding. Second, the production of disaster knowledge through formal institutions, such as the Meteorology, Climatology, and Geophysical Agency (BMKG) and the Regional Disaster Management Agency (BPBD), influences how communities understand and respond to risk, while communities also develop local knowledge based on their experiences with recurrent flooding. Third, repeated experiences of flooding encourage the normalization of risk, whereby flooding is perceived as part of everyday life. Fourth, communities develop adaptive practices through social solidarity and reciprocal cooperation as mechanisms for coping with the impacts of flooding.

Abstract

The appointment of acting regional heads (Penjabat/Pj), including governors, regents, and mayors, in Indonesia during the 2022–2023 period attracted significant public attention due to the large number of regional leaders whose terms of office had expired. The appointment of Acting Regents (Penjabat Bupati) by the central government reflects the strong exercise of administrative authority in determining regional leadership, which, in several cases, has not fully accommodated local political aspirations. This study employed a qualitative method with a normative juridical approach, supported by descriptive analysis of statutory regulations and the empirical realities observed in the field. The findings indicate that the mechanism for appointing Acting Regional Heads (Penjabat/Pj) by the central government, although legally legitimate, does not fully reflect democratic principles, particularly with regard to public participation, thereby creating the potential for an imbalance in the distribution of power between the central and regional governments. From the perspective of Joseph Schumpeter's theory of procedural democracy, political competition—the essence of democracy—was only realized through the 2024 Regional Head Elections (Pilkada), when citizens regained the opportunity to elect their regional leaders through a competitive electoral process. However, candidates who had previously served as Acting Regents enjoyed structural advantages that potentially influenced the outcome of the electoral contest. From Robert Dahl's perspective of substantive democracy, this condition demonstrates that the principles of equal political competition, broad participation, and political equality have not yet been fully realized. The study concludes that democracy in Central Halmahera has not yet achieved substantive democratic quality, as it remains characterized by central government dominance and unequal distribution of political resources.

Abstract

This study aims to describe the congregation's understanding of the meaning of silence in the Eucharistic Celebration, identify the implementation of silence according to the General Instruction of the Roman Missal (GIRM), and examine the forms of the faithful's interior participation in experiencing silence as an integral part of the liturgy. This study employed a descriptive qualitative approach. The research informants consisted of a parish priest, liturgical ministers, and parishioners of Saint Mary of Mount Carmel Parish Tigalingga, who were selected using the snowball sampling technique. Data were collected through observation, interviews, and documentation, and were analyzed through data reduction, data presentation, and conclusion drawing. The findings reveal that the faithful understand silence as a means of self-reflection, awareness of God's presence, meditation and assimilation of the Word of God, and praise to God through prayer and interior participation. The implementation of silence has been carried out in various parts of the Eucharistic Celebration in accordance with the provisions of the General Instruction of the Roman Missal. Although some situational disturbances were encountered, the faithful continued to experience silence as an essential element of liturgical participation. Their interior participation was manifested through self-reflection, meditation on the Word of God, contemplation of the Eucharistic mystery, and prayers of thanksgiving after receiving Holy Communion. Therefore, silence plays an important role in fostering the active, conscious, and full participation of the faithful in the Eucharistic Celebration.
