Abstract

Heat is a material that is close to everyday life. However, most students still have misconceptions about this material. Thus, teachers need to develop teaching materials that can reduce the misconception of heat material. One alternative is to use teaching materials with cognitive conflict strategies. The research aims to develop teaching materials that are able to reduce students' misconceptions about heat material. The development model used is the 4D model which consists of four stages, namely defining, designing, developing, and distributing. The teaching materials developed include lesson plans, textbooks, student worksheets, and tests. The subjects of the study were seventh-grade students in Lamongan regency which consisted of 10 state junior high schools and private junior high schools. The research instrument was a feasibility test sheet for teaching materials and a questionnaire to see students’ responses. Data collection techniques used the feasibility sheet of teaching materials and questionnaires. Therefore, the result shows that cognitive conflict-based teaching materials are appropriate to be used classroom with a score between 3.0 and 3.9 and a reliability coefficient value of more than 90%.  and can reduce misconceptions with a percentage reduction in misunderstandings from 10 junior high schools in the Lamongan regency ranging from 30.3 to 47.8 percent.

Abstract

The 2013 curriculum implemented in the learning process demands students to be able to develop every aspect owned by each individual; one of them is Collaborative Problem Solving (CPS) competency. The global competition after finishing education is also a concern for learning outputs. Collaborative problem-solving does not only sharpen the students' cognitive competency but also their social attitude. Education is a process that involves students through their thinking to continue to innovate in order to solve the surrounding problems properly. Every time, it is necessary that students are prepared to obtain skills that they will need in the future. The purpose of this research is to analyze collaborative problem-solving skills in middle-level students. How these skills contribute towards students' understanding process on learning itself, both individually and in groups. This study was performed at a State Junior High School in Lampung during the odd semester of the 2019/2020 academic year. Samples used in this research were determined using random sampling techniques. The research sample was 63 students'. The instruments used in data collecting were observation, interview, and test, without any treatment towards the sample. The research data shows that the percentage of students' social skills has an average score in the low category (participation and perspective-taking), while all aspects of cognitive skills are in the low criteria (regulation, learning and knowledge building, and task regulation). Based on these results, it can be concluded that students' collaborative problem-solving skills are still in the low category, so further research needs to be carried out as an alternative that can be done to improve collaborative problem-solving skills.

Abstract

One of the impacts of the Covid-19 pandemic in the world of education is a change in the learning process from face-to-face learning to online learning. To compensate for these changes, it is necessary to integrate technology in learning. The goal of this study is to design thematic learning at the elementary school level by integrating the Internet of Things (IoT) related to climate change parameters. The method in this study uses research and development of IoT-based measuring instruments using the Lolin V3 MCU node, with sensors for temperature, air pressure, humidity, altitude, and light intensity. The research respondents were 20 students. Data collection was carried out using a questionnaire containing four aspects, namely, usability, ease of use, aspects of learning ease, and satisfaction. The results showed that the reliability value > 0.6 and the level of student acceptance of the product was 3.4 with effective criteria. Based on the findings, this instructional design has potential opportunities to increase student engagement even though it is limited in networking. So it can be concluded that IoT-based learning media can be applied as a thematic learning model at the elementary school level during the Covid-19 pandemic.

Abstract

In the world of education, formative assessment is critical because it is to know the growth of students when doing a lesson and get an idea regarding the way the teacher develops learning methods that occur. The purpose of the study was to determine the application of formative assessment to measure students' self-regulation. This study's data collection methods used questionnaires and test questions with data analysis techniques using qualitative descriptive. Respondents in this study amounted to 35 students of class XI IPA 4 SMA Negeri 14 Surabaya. The results showed that self-regulation or the ability to regulate oneself in students could be known and measured using the application of formative assessment. The self-assessment results on students are more striking when measured using a questionnaire. They can use seven categories of self-regulation to assess and observe their expertise, skills, competencies, and performance presented in the form of a questionnaire. Self-regulation ability that can measure is undoubtedly beneficial for the future orientation of students in motivating and controlling their learning process. In addition, with the application of formative assessment, teachers get feedback on the learning process that is being developed to monitor the progress and growth of students during the learning process.
