Abstract

Chronic kidney disease (CKD) is a progressive and irreversible decline in kidney function that leads to the accumulation of metabolic waste products, including urea. Hemodialysis is a renal replacement therapy that functions to remove metabolic waste and maintain fluid balance in the body. Measurement of blood urea levels before and after hemodialysis is important to evaluate the effectiveness of the therapy. This study aimed to determine the comparison of blood urea levels before and after hemodialysis in patients with chronic kidney disease at Majenang Regional General Hospital. This study was a quantitative study with an observational analytic design using secondary data obtained from medical records of chronic kidney disease patients undergoing hemodialysis at Majenang Regional General Hospital during June–November 2025. A total of 103 patients who met the inclusion and exclusion criteria were included in the study. Data were analyzed using the Kolmogorov-Smirnov normality test and Paired Sample t-Test with a 95% confidence level. The results showed that the mean blood urea level before hemodialysis was 133.54 ± 38.13 mg/dL, with a minimum value of 29 mg/dL and a maximum value of 244 mg/dL. After hemodialysis, the mean blood urea level decreased to 46.51 ± 21.61 mg/dL, with a minimum value of 6 mg/dL and a maximum value of 102 mg/dL. The Kolmogorov-Smirnov test indicated that the data were normally distributed (p>0.05). The Paired Sample t-Test revealed a statistically significant difference between blood urea levels before and after hemodialysis (p=0.000). In conclusion, hemodialysis is effective in reducing blood urea levels in patients with chronic kidney disease. Measurement of blood urea levels before and after hemodialysis can be utilized as a laboratory parameter to evaluate treatment effectiveness and assist in monitoring the clinical condition of patients with chronic kidney disease..

Abstract

Type 2 Diabetes Mellitus is one of the non-communicable diseases with an increasing prevalence and a major contribution to cardiovascular complications. Insulin resistance in Type 2 Diabetes Mellitus not only causes hyperglycemia but may also affect lipid metabolism, potentially leading to dyslipidemia. This study aimed to determine the relationship between blood glucose levels and total cholesterol and triglyceride levels in patients with Type 2 Diabetes Mellitus. This research used an analytic design with a cross-sectional approach involving 45 patients with Type 2 Diabetes Mellitus who underwent lipid profile examination at the Clinical Pathology Laboratory of RSDI Banjarbaru. Data were analyzed using the Chi-Square test to assess the association between variables. The results showed that there was no significant relationship between blood glucose levels and total cholesterol levels or triglyceride levels (p > 0.05). Increased blood glucose levels were not statistically associated with elevated lipid levels in patients with Type 2 Diabetes Mellitus.

Abstract

Jackfruit leaves (Artocarpus heterophyllus Lam.) are rich in bioactive compounds, including flavonoids, phenolics, tannins, and saponins, which exhibit antibacterial and antioxidant activities. These properties suggest their potential application as natural ingredients in anti-acne formulations. This study aimed to formulate an anti-acne cream containing ethanol extract of jackfruit leaves and to evaluate its physicochemical characteristics, including organoleptic properties, homogeneity, pH, and spreadability, as well as its antioxidant activity using the DPPH assay. The jackfruit leaf extract was obtained through maceration using 96% ethanol and incorporated into cream formulations at different concentrations (F0, F1, F2, and F3). The evaluation results demonstrated that all formulations possessed acceptable organoleptic characteristics, showed good homogeneity, maintained pH values within the skin-friendly range (4.5–6.5), and exhibited suitable spreadability values ranging from 5 to 7 cm. Antioxidant activity assessment revealed concentration-dependent effects, as indicated by the IC₅₀ values Formulations F0 (483.23 ppm and F1 (373.12 ppm) exhibited weak antioxidant activity, F2(156 .03 ppm)

Abstract

After achieving malaria elimination status in 2018, West Aceh Regency faced challenges in the form of imported malaria cases and the emergence of zoonotic cases due to interactions with forests. This descriptive study with a secondary data analysis design (Retrospective Cohort Study) aims to analyze temporal trends, demographic characteristics (people), regional distribution (places), and types of malaria parasites for the period 2019–2025. Total sampling was conducted on all malaria cases at the West Aceh Regency Health Office with an accumulation of 61 cases, where trend analysis was calculated using simple linear regression. The results showed that all samples were positive for malaria where there was a temporal spike in 2025 of 19 cases. Infection cases were absolutely dominated by men (98.2%), all of whom were in the productive age group (100%), worked in the military sector (80.32%), were forest encroachers, or illegal gold miners, with the majority being imported cases (96.72%). From the characteristics of the parasite, the threat of an etiological shift from human malaria (P. falciparum and P. vivax) to zoonotic malaria of long-tailed macaques, Plasmodium knowlesi, was found. In conclusion, the macro-elimination status of the region remains maintained with an Annual Parasite Incidence (API) value of <1 per 1,000 population (API = 0.087) but there is a vulnerability to post-elimination malaria in West Aceh triggered by occupational risks, high geographic mobility of productive-age men, and the threat of hidden transmission of P. knowlesi zoonosis due to the impact of forest deforestation

Abstract

Pediculosis capitis is the presence and development of parasites caused by Pediculus humanus capitis, which infest the scalp and are commonly known as head lice. This study aimed to determine the microscopic characteristics of Pediculus humanus capitis and the characteristics of respondents based on age, educational level, and personal hygiene among female students at an Islamic boarding school in Bangkiling Raya in 2026. This research employed a descriptive design with a cross-sectional approach. The study population consisted of female students living in the dormitory, and 35 respondents were selected using a purposive sampling technique. Samples were collected by combing the hair with a fine-toothed lice comb, and microscopic examinations were conducted at the Banua Lawas Community Health Center Laboratory. The results showed that 22 respondents (63%) were positive for Pediculus humanus capitis, while 13 respondents (37%) were negative. The respondents' characteristics indicated that the majority were aged 11–15 years (51%), most were junior Islamic secondary school (MTs) students (77%), and 51% had good personal hygiene. Microscopic examination successfully identified adult lice and nits based on their characteristic morphological features. Health education is needed to reduce the incidence of pediculosis capitis in the Islamic boarding school environment.
