Abstract

This study aimed to adapt and examine the psychometric properties of the Three-Factor Patience Questionnaire (3-FPQ) among student members of Nature Lovers organizations (Mapala) in Indonesia. A quantitative instrument-adaptation design was used, involving forward translation by two independent language institutions followed by researcher review to select the most contextually appropriate wording. Participants were 223 Mapala student members recruited through snowball sampling, and data were analyzed using Partial Least Squares Structural Equation Modeling (PLS-SEM). Of the 11 original items, ten were retained after one interpersonal-patience item was eliminated due to a low, negative outer loading. Then, the three-factor structure was confirmed as all dimensions fulfilled the requirements of outer loading, average variance extracted (AVE), and composite reliability. The Life Hardship Patience dimension had the strongest average contribution based on standardized loading values, consistent with the physical and situational demands that Mapala members face during outdoor and expedition activities. These results provide preliminary support for the validity and reliability of the 3-FPQ in Indonesian language as a measurement of patience among student nature-lover populations and are a starting point for further validation in larger Indonesian populations.

Abstract

Academic stress is a mental health condition experienced by students when they perceive that their academic demands exceed their cognitive capacity, time, energy, and available support systems. Mindfulness is the ability to intentionally attend to the present moment with openness and without judgment. This study aimed to examine the relationship between mindfulness and academic stress among students at SMP Mashita Batam. The study involved 88 students who were selected using a saturated sampling method. The research instruments consisted of a mindfulness scale and an academic stress scale. The mindfulness scale comprised 16 items with a reliability coefficient (Cronbach’s α) of .832, while the academic stress scale comprised 18 items with a reliability coefficient of .883. Data were analyzed using the Pearson product-moment correlation. The results showed a significant negative correlation between mindfulness and academic stress (r = −.407, p < .001). Therefore, the null hypothesis (H₀) was rejected and the alternative hypothesis (Hₐ) was supported. These findings indicate that higher levels of mindfulness are associated with lower levels of academic stress among students at SMP Mashita Batam. The coefficient of determination (R²) was .166, indicating that mindfulness explained 16.6% of the variance in academic stress. Overall, the findings suggest that mindfulness may serve as a psychological resource that helps students cope with academic demands and may be associated with lower levels of academic stress.

Abstract

The aim of this study was to examine the relationship between Online Fear of Missing Out (ON-FoMO) and the three dimensions of Online Self-Presentation (OSP), namely Adaptable Self (OSPAD), Authentic Self (OSPA), and Freedom of Self Online (OSPFOS), with Online Social Support (OSS) as a mediator. Higher levels of ON-FoMO among university students may create a sense of obligation to remain active and visible on social media, potentially at the expense of authenticity. Alternatively, social support may help students develop a more strategic approach to self-presentation on social media. This study involved 363 university students in Malang. Data were collected through an online questionnaire and analyzed using Pearson’s correlation and mediation analysis with JASP and SPSS. The results indicated that ON-FoMO was negatively associated with OSPA and positively associated with OSPAD and OSPFOS. Furthermore, OSS significantly mediated the relationships between ON-FoMO and OSPAD (β = .021, p = .039), OSPA (β = .047, p = .003), and OSPFOS (β = .024, p = .021). These findings highlight the importance of healthy digital social connections in understanding the psychological effects of ON-FoMO on online self-presentation among university students.

Abstract

Islamic boarding school students (santri) face various interpersonal and personal challenges that require adaptive capacity and resilience. Their religious values serve as a coping resource in dealing with stress, enabling positive adaptation. This study aimed to examine the relationship between positive Islamic religious coping and resilience among santri in Pekanbaru using a cross-sectional design. The study employed a quantitative correlational method with a sample of 100 male and female santri aged 14–18 years from four Islamic boarding schools in Pekanbaru, Riau Province, selected through cluster random sampling. The instruments used were the Psychology Measure of Islamic Religiousness (PMIR) positive Islamic religious coping subscale and the Brief Resilience Scale (BRS). Data analysis using Spearman’s correlation test revealed a significant positive relationship between positive Islamic religious coping and resilience (r = .324; p = .001). These findings indicate that greater intensity in the use of Islamic religious coping is associated with higher resilience levels among santri. This study provides empirical evidence for Islamic boarding schools to develop educational programs that emphasize the internalization and practice of Islamic values as a primary source in coping with life challenges. Strengthening religious coping strategies can thus serve as an effective approach to enhance resilience among santri in the context of both education and everyday life.
