Abstract

This study aims to determine the effect of parental favoritism on sibling rivalry in adulthood. Sibling relationships are often characterized by a love-hate relationship, where individuals value their siblings as people who support them lovingly, but also as aggressive and antagonistic people. Sibling rivalry is influenced by many factors, one of which is parental favoritism. A quantitative approach was used in this study with parental favoritism scale and sibling rivalry scale for data collection. Furthermore, the data were analyzed using simple linear regression test. The findings of the analysis show that there is a positive influence of parental favoritism on sibling rivalry with a regression coefficient of 0.720 and a p value <0.001. The result of the percentage of the influence of parental favoritism on sibling rivalry is 86.5% (R square = 0.865), while the other 13.5% is due to other factors outside the study. Therefore, it is concluded that the research hypothesis is accepted, and it means that parental favoritism affects sibling rivalry in adulthood. Thus, the importance of parental awareness in treating children fairly in order to minimize the potential for sibling rivalry that can continue into adulthood.

Abstract

This study aims to evaluate the effectiveness of journaling in improving self-regulation in adolescent girls. The research subjects consisted of 14 adolescent girls aged 19-21 years old who were selected by simple randomization. The study used a pre-experiment design with one-group pretest-posttest. The instrument used was the Self-Regulation Questionnaire (SRQ) adapted by Puspawardani (2019). The journaling intervention was conducted for 14 days with the journaling book guide, followed by pre-test and post-test measurements. Data analysis using paired samples t-test showed significant improvement in participants' self-regulation (p < 0.001), with a mean pre-test score of 42.36 which increased to 57.86 in the post-test (Cohen's d = 2.34). These results indicate that journaling is effective in improving emotion management, impulse control, and future planning. This study recommends journaling as a practical method for self-development and emotion regulation in adolescent girls.

Abstract

As one of the largest ethnic groups in Indonesia, the Malay people have long been known as an open and friendly society, but based on the values of Islamic teachings and the Malay Tunjuk Ajar. The social and agrarian conflicts on Rempang Island have pushed the urgency to re-understand the meaning of happiness and self-esteem of the Malay people. Involving 139 (Nman= 59; Nwoman=80) participants willing to fill out an open questionnaire, this study explores the meaning of the happiness (tuah) and self-esteem (marwah) in Indragiri Hilir district, Riau Province. A qualitative approach with thematic analysis methods and MAXQDA 2024 data analysis tools were used to find the main themes of the meaning of tuah and marwah. The results of the data analysis show that the Malay people still live the meaning of tuah and marwah. The meaning of tuah is identical to the meaning of happiness for Malay participants who resemble the characteristics of human flourishing. Malay people experience happiness when they succeed in living transcendental values and building relationships with their significant others (family, friends, and social environment). These findings inform academics, practitioners, and policymakers that the Malay people's attitude toward interpreting happiness is closely related to how they maintain their dignity, property rights, family, nation, and country.

Abstract

The nursing profession has experienced an increase in numbers each year. However, married nurses tend to face an imbalance between work and family due to the dual roles they perform. Women who choose to continue working and are able to positively integrate their work and family roles are described by the concept of work–family enrichment. This study aims to examine the relationships among self-efficacy, work engagement, and work-family enrichment among female nurses at hospitals in Pekanbaru. This study used a quantitative, correlational method. The research subjects were 201 married female nurses who had worked at a hospital for at least 6 months. Data collection used the work-family enrichment scale, the generalised self-efficacy scale, and the Utrecht work engagement scale. The results of multiple linear regression showed a significant relationship between self-efficacy and work engagement with work-family enrichment (p <.001). Self-efficacy and work engagement accounted for 39.8% of work-family enrichment. Partially, work engagement correlated more highly (β = 0.372) than self-efficacy (β = 0.354) with work-family enrichment. This study emphasises the importance of developing self-efficacy and work engagement for married female nurses to improve work-family enrichment.

Abstract

Social skills are an essential component of life skills that support students' academic success and emotional development. Guidance and counseling play a strategic role in helping students develop these skills through services that foster empathy, effective communication, and social cooperation. This study aims to examine whether guidance and counseling significantly influence students' social skills at SMK Hang Nadim Batam. The study involved 95 students selected using a simple random sampling technique. The instruments used were a social skills scale and a guidance and counseling scale. The social skills scale consisted of 20 items with a reliability coefficient of α = 0.836, while the guidance and counseling scale also consisted of 20 items with α = 0.932. The hypothesis testing results showed a significance value (Sig) of 0.000, which is less than the probability threshold of 0.05. Thus, the null hypothesis (Ho) is rejected, and the alternative hypothesis (H₁) is supported, indicating that guidance and counseling have a statistically significant impact on students' social skills at SMK Hang Nadim Batam. The coefficient of determination (R Square) was 0.300, meaning that guidance and counseling contribute 30% to the development of students’ social skills. Therefore, the findings of this study highlight the importance of optimizing school guidance and counseling programs as an effective and sustainable means to enhance students' social skills.

Abstract

One of the social problems in Indonesia is prejudice, including against minority ethnicities, such as Chinese. One of the factors that is understudied is conspiracy beliefs, especially conspiracy beliefs related to the Chinese, which have been emerging. This study aims to explore the role of conspiracy theory beliefs and intergroup contact on prejudice towards the Chinese ethnic group. The research uses a quantitative correlational design which involved 88 participants recruited conveniently (Mage = 20.25 years), with 66% having Chinese their relatives. Data analysis conducted with multiple linear regression shows that both conspiracy theory beliefs and intergroup contact have a simultaneous role as significant predictors of prejudice towards the Chinese (R2 = 31%, F (2, 85) = 18.68, p < 0.001). Partially, conspiracy belief has a significant role in predicting prejudice against the Chinese (B = 0.36, SE = 0.07, t = 3.61, p < 0.001); meanwhile, intergroup contact has no significant role in predicting prejudice against the Chinese (B = -2.51, SE = 1.43, -1.76, p = 0.082). These results contribute to the understanding of intergroup relations, which can be explained by beliefs in conspiracy theories.

Abstract

The objective of this study is to examine the influence of Islamic religiosity on psychological well-being and to identify the most influential dimensions of religiosity. The research employed a systematic review following the PRISMA (Preferred Reporting Items for Systematic Reviews and Meta-Analyses) guidelines, drawing literature from Google Scholar, Scopus, and Garuda. Inclusion criteria comprised quantitative and qualitative studies addressing Islamic religiosity and psychological well-being, published between 2020 and 2025, in journal articles or conference proceedings written in either Indonesian or English. The search keywords included “Islamic religiosity,” “religiusitas Islam,” “psychological well-being,” and “kesejahteraan psikologis.” A synthesis of 11 selected articles revealed that Islamic religiosity positively influences individuals’ psychological well-being across diverse populations. Individuals with higher levels of religiosity tend to demonstrate greater psychological well-being compared to those with lower levels. Specific dimensions of religiosity such as religious commitment, ritual experience, and worship practices contribute to psychological well-being through self-acceptance, life purpose, and positive relationships with others. These findings underscore Islamic religiosity as a critical factor in fostering psychological well-being.

Abstract

This study aims to design and validate the quality of work life (QWL) measurement instrument for use in Small and Medium Enterprises (SMEs) setting, involving 196 Muslim participants. Using the Exploratory Factor Analysis (EFA) method, the Kaiser-Meyer-Olkin (KMO) value was found to be 0.766, while Bartlett’s Test of Sphericity yielded a value of 1.872 with a significance level of 0.000 (p < 0.05). The analysis identified four primary factors: compensation and interpersonal relations, job satisfaction, support facilities and career development, and organizational climate, comprising a total of 26 items. The reliability test using Cronbach’s Alpha produced a coefficient of 0.882, indicating high internal consistency. Concurrent validity testing showed a significant positive correlation between the FED-QWLS and the QWLS, with a correlation coefficient of r = 0.846 and p = 0.000 (p < 0.01). In contrast, the correlations between both the FED-QWLS and QWLS with the SDS were r = -0.052 (p = 0.614) and r = -0.159 (p = 0.122), respectively, indicating no significant negative relationship between the QWL instruments and the SDS. The strength of this study focuses on employees in the MSME sector, as well as the efficiency of the developed instrument, which includes only 26 items, making it user-friendly and time-efficient for respondents.

Abstract

The impact of digitalization has made many changes, one of which is the shift in face-to-face communication patterns which have now become less popular interactions. This often gives rise to new problems, especially in self-acceptance which is depicted through the body image of teenagers who portray themselves on social media, the internet generation or often known as generation Z. The aim of this research is to get a picture of Generation Z's self-acceptance in terms of body image and self-disclosure on social media. This research method uses quantitative with mediation analysis using the SEM-PLS application. There were 168 subjects in this research aged 18-21 years. The research results show that self-disclosure can be predicted (R2=0.229) by self-acceptance and body image, it also proven that body image (f2=0.178) can more explain the change of self-acceptance than self-disclosure (f2=0.109). From these results it can be concluded that body image has positif effect for individual self-acceptance, while this is related to self-acceptance which is more influenced by internal factors rather than how the individual express to other such as self-disclosure.

Abstract

Higher education participation in Indonesia remains relatively low, making it important to examine factors that may influence students’ intentions to continue their studies. The intention to pursue higher education is considered an early indicator of students’ decisions to actually enroll in university. This study aims to examine the role of parental social support in shaping students’ intentions to pursue higher education. The research sample consisted of 306 secondary school students selected using purposive sampling. Data were collected through a parental social support scale and a higher education intention scale. The results showed that parental social support had a significant effect on students’ intentions to pursue higher education, with a significance value of 0.001 and a correlation coefficient of r = 0.11, thus confirming the hypothesis. These findings emphasize that parental social support is an external factor that contributes to strengthening students’ intentions to continue their studies at the higher education level.
