Abstract

The majority of people in rural areas in their daily life work as farmers and rely on agricultural products to meet their daily needs. The problem is that the income from farming is not sufficient to meet daily needs. Therefore, it is necessary to study the contribution of farm income to total household income. The method used in this research is the literature review method. The results of several studies indicate that the characteristics of farmers in rural areas have an average primary school education (more than 50%), while the average age of farmers is still in the productive age. The average contribution value of rice farming from several studies with different areas from several research results is more than 50%, meaning that farmers depend on rice farming days to fulfill all their daily needs rather than relying on side jobs, while the contribution of tobacco farming from several research results from less than 50%. In calculating the contribution of many researchers who have not included time susceptibility, either yearly, seasonally, or monthly, this will affect the tabulation of the calculation of non-farm income.

Abstract

Dayak onions (Eleutherine palmifolia Merr) are a potential commodity that has many health benefits, so it has a high economic value. However, this Dayak onion plant has not received much attention in cultiva¬tion technology, especially fertilization. So far, this onion has grown relying on nature, while the land has diminished its fertility. This study tested a combination of chicken manure and NPK fertilizer to obtain the optimal composition to increase the productivity of Dayak onions. This study used a factorial randomized block design with 3 replications. The first factor consists of the treatment of chicken manure(O1 = control, O2 = 10 ton.ha-1 and O3 = 20 ton.ha-1). The second factor consists of NPK fertilizer(K1 = control, K2 = 100 kg.ha-1 Urea + 150 kg.ha-1 SP 36 + 200 kg.ha-1 KCl, K3 = 200 kg.ha-1Urea + 150 kg.ha-1 SP 36 + 200 kg.ha-1 KCl, and K4 = 300 kg.ha-1 Urea + 150 kg.ha-1 SP 36 + 200 kg.ha-1 KCl). The results showed that there was an interaction effect between the composition of chicken manure and NPK on the number of leaves, fresh weight of tubers, and dry weight of tubers per clump but did not affect the growth of plant height. The yield of Dayak bulbs of 62.60 g / clump was obtained in the composition of chicken manure of 20 tonnes.ha-1 with an NPK of 200 kg.ha-1 Urea + 150 kg.ha-1SP 36 + 200 kg.ha-1 KCl. From an economic perspective, the composition is very efficient and feasible, which is indicated by R / C> 1, namely 5.75, which means that with a certain unit cost, it can get 5.75 times the revenue.

Abstract

Intercropping system that involves planting multispecies between accumulator plants and cultivated plants is a way to improve the phytoextraction of heavy metals in agricultural land simultaneously. However, how the effect of accumulator plants on the growth and yield of cultivated plants has not been widely studied. This study aims to determine the growth and yield of vegetables intercropped with accumulator plants from the legume group, namely Crotalaria juncea L. The study was carried out using a randomized block design with one factor, namely Chinese vegetable monoculture (P1), bean vegetable monoculture (P2), and accumulator plant monoculture. Crotalaria juncea L. (P3), an intercropping system between Chinese cabbage and Crotalaria juncea L. (P4; and an intercropping system of beans and Crotalaria juncea L (P5). The results showed that in Chinese cabbage, monoculture planting produced biomass and crop yields. per plant and per plot was higher than the crops grown by intercropping. In the bean crop, monoculture and intercropping systems did not provide differences in biomass yield and fruit yield per plant and per plot. Crotalaria juncea L, which was grown in monoculture produced plant biomass and the yield of the stove per square is higher gi compared to those planted by intercropping. Crotalaria juncea L. intercropped with Chinese cabbage was able to accumulate more Pb in the roots, while Crotalaria juncea intercropped with chickpeas accumulated higher Pb in the stems. Crotalaria juncea plants grown in monoculture accumulated higher Pb than those intercropped with vegetables, so further research is needed to test the effective removal of Pb using other cropping systems.

Abstract

This study aims to determine the effect of training on processing cassava and sweet potato products held at the Indonesia Centre for Agricultural Training (ICAT) of Ketindan and determine the correlation between the participants' areas of origin on improving the performance of agricultural instructors. This research method uses data sources that come from the field obtained by interviewing alumni, fostered farmers, colleagues, and alumni superiors with a survey using a questionnaire. The results of the data were analyzed descriptively and correlated using SPSS Software Version 18 for Windows. The general research results show that the training that has been carried out in 2014, 2015, and 2017 has an effect on increasing the performance of agricultural instructors by 63.20%. This is measured by 3 (three) indicators, namely 1) preparation of agricultural extension by 3.40 or 68.00%; 2) implementation of agricultural extension 2.77 or 55.40%; and 3) evaluation and reporting of 3.29 or 65.80%. The results of the correlation between the participants' regions of origin and the performance of the extension workers showed that the highest performance achievement was 77 and the lowest was 26. Thus, the extension workers could show good performance in disseminating the application of technological innovations for processing cassava and sweet potato products to farmers or their fostered business actors which affected increasing cassava and sweet potato production and productivity.
