Abstract

Abstract Herbal preparations have started being used to support poultry health. The purpose of this study was to obtain information about the effect of meniran and turmeric extracts as well as the combination of both on the blood profile (hemoglobin, hematocrit, erythrocytes, leukocytes, and plasma protein) of chickens. This study used 80 layer chickens (DOC), which were randomly divided into 4 groups (A, B, C, and D, each group contain 20 chickens). Group A was the control, group B was treated with turmeric extract (100 mg/kg BW), group C was treated with meniran extract (100 mg/kg BW), and group D was treat with a combination of meniran and turmeric extracts (each dose 100 mg/kg BW). Treatment was given for 30 days. Blood samples were collected on the end period for examination. Statistical analysis of the data were done through the one-way ANOVA method. The results showed that the blood profiles (hematocrit, hemoglobin, erythrocytes, leukocytes, and total plasma protein) with turmeric and meniran extract treatments were still within normal range and not significantly different from the control group (P> 0.05). Based on this research, it can be concluded that the treatment of extract turmeric and meniran or a mixture of both at a dose of 100 mg/kg body weight for 30 days does not affect the blood profile. Keywords: meniran, turmeric, blood profile, chicken Abstrak Penggunaan sediaan herbal mulai banyak digunakan untuk mendukung kesehatan unggas. Abstract

Abstract Beef and chicken meat are potential as a medium for microbial growth such as coliform bacteria since it has a high nutrients content. Coliform bacteria in a given amount could be used as a hygienic indicator and a sign for the presence of pathogenic bacteria. The aimed of this research was to determine the amount of coliform and Escherichia coli on fresh beef and broiler chicken. The bacterial tests included qualitative tests as presumptive test, confirmed test, completed test whereas quantitavely test as Most Probable Number (MPN) to test the number of coliform and faecal coli. The results showed that pH in beef meat is normal and chicken meat shows under normal pH (pH in beef anf chicken meat are 5,7 – 5,98). Coliform and faecal coli bacteria was detected in 100% of samples had MPN values > 1 MPN/g. It means that the value do not meet eligibility criteria consumption. The high number of Coliform and faecal coli contamination in beef and chicken meat were supposed in relation with market sanitation, cross contamination with other food, low knowledge about hygiene. Keywords: Number of coliform; Beef and chicken; Traditional market Abstrak Daging sapi dan ayam memiliki kandungan nutrisi yang tinggi sehingga menjadi media yang baik untuk pertumbuhan mikroba. Abstract

Tamarind seeds have a high energy content but have limited use for pigs because the seed coat is tough and contains anti-nutrient tannins. Therefore, liquid feed fermentation technology is carried out. The aim of this research was to assess the gross energy, digestible energy, and metabolic energy content of liquid feed fermentation (Lff) with different fermentation times in growing pigs. The research materials were whole tamarind seeds, bran, corn, meat and bone meal, and soybean meal. The study used a completely randomized design and consisted of 5 treatments and 5 replications. Treatment = Lf0: Lff time 0 days; Lf1: Lff for 7 days, Lf2: Lff for 14 days, Lf3: Lff for 21days, Lf4: Lff for 28 days fermentation. The research variables were the energy content of the ration and the prediction of digestible energy and metabolic energy value. Data were analyzed using analysis of variance and Duncan's advanced test. The results showed that the Lff with different fermentation time had a significant effect (P <0,05) on gross energy, digestible energy, and metabolic energy value. The best value of energy is Lff for 21 days. It was concluded that the time for fermentation of liquid feed made from tamarind seeds which can produce good energy content, digestibility, and metabolic energy is 21 days.

Abstract

Abstract This study aimed to determine the effect of red fruit juice (RFJ) in drinking water on feed consumption, body weight gain (BWG), feed conversion ratio and drinking water consumption of starter broiler chickens. A total of 100 broiler chickens (straight run) of 4 days old (Lohmann) were fed using commercial diets and given RFJ drinking water treatments as followed: P0 = drinking water 1000ml+0ml RFJ, P1=drinking water 900ml+100ml RFJ, P2=drinking water 800ml+200ml RFJ, and P3=drinking water 700ml+300ml RFJ. During the experiment, the RFJ drinking water treatments were given in a sequential pattern of 3 days ON and 4 days OFF. The results showed that the RFJ drinking water treatments had no effect on feed consumption (P³0.05), but had an effect on BWG (P<0.05), feed conversion ratio (P<0.05), and drinking water consumption (P<0.05). The result of RFJ drinking water treatments on BWG, feed conversion ratio and drinking water consumption had the same pattern, namely the best results were obtained at 200 ml RFJ drinking water treatment and the worst at 300 ml RFJ drinking water treatment. In conclusion, the red fruit juice at a dose of 200 ml in 800 l of drinking water improved the performance of starter broiler chickens, whereas the red fruit juice at a dose of 300 ml in 700 ml of drinking water had no effect on feed consumption but had caused a decrease in the starter broiler chicken’s performance. Keywords: Body weight gain; Feed conversion ratio; Red fruit juice; Starter broiler chickens Abstrak Penelitian bertujuan untuk mengetahui pengaruh pemberian jus buah merah (JBM) dalam air minum terhadap konsumsi ransum, pertambahan bobot badan (PBB), konversi ransum dan konsumsi air minum ayam broiler fase starter.
