Abstract

This study aims to determine the learning outcomes of English students of class VII MTsS PP Syafa’aturrasul Taluk Kuantan Academic Year 2014/2015 through the application of Think Pair Share method. This research is classroom action research (CAR), by analyzing descriptively. This study consisted of two cycles. Retrieval of data in this study was conducted from September to October 2014. Subjects in this study were students of class VII, which amounted to 36 students consisting of 20 men and 16 women. Based on the analysis of data obtained by researchers, the absorption of students before CAR is 73.1. After CAR in cycle I is 80.8. In the second cycle of 85.3. Based on the results of the study indicate that the application of the Think Pair Share method can improve the learning outcomes of English in VII class students of MTsS PP Syafa’aturrasul Taluk Kuantan Academic Year 2014/2015.

Abstract

Vocabulary is an important thing in English. Therefore, at university vocabulary is a compulsory subject for English language study program. Students cannot speak, write, listen, and read the reading texts when they do not have enough vocabulary to understand them. Thus, students should master vocabulary. The research is a descriptive one. Population is students of UPI YPTK Padang in 2018/2019 academic year. The sample of the research is students of English education faculty. They were thirty four students. The data were collected by using test and questionnaire. The test is given to know students’ ability in vocabulary mastery. It consists of thirty questions. It consists of matching test for giving definition of a word, filling blank space and finding new vocabularies from unarranged letters. The result of the test showed that different abilities of students in mastery vocabulary. The students can find new vocabularies from unarranged letters. This was an interesting activity for them. Then, in matching the vocabularies to the definitions or synonyms, the students also could do it. The questionnaire proved that students have good ability in mastery vocabulary but they have some difficulties related to the some aspects such as grammar and spelling.

Abstract

This paper is aimed at investigating the teachers’ perception on Flipped Classroom Model in digital era. In the 21st century era the teachers should help the students to develop their higher-order thinking and to improve their literacy. The rapid changes of technology involve knowledge and understanding. In education, the teachers require to master current issue and also new technology to improve their professional development. Thus, the teacher should engage with the new trends in order to improve their professional development. Thus, the teacher develops students’ higher-order thinking where the students are able to think critically, creatively and innovatively to prepare them to compete in the globalized world. Recently, there is a lot of teaching model for teacher deal with current issues and technologies. One of them is Flipped Classroom Model which is known as inverted class model. The teachers give more time for the students to learn outside the class and discuss more inside the class. The role of the teacher is as a facilitator to improve the education quality. This study is based on an internet survey. It was conducted by online google form. The subject of this study is the senior high school teacher in West Java. The result is showed that the teacher responses positively toward new teaching model.

Abstract

There are many technology-based media that can use in learning English. One of them is the English version of Upin Ipin which can download from YouTube. The purpose of this study is to describe the ability of students to study, analyze and translate moral values ​​contained in each episode of the Upin Ipin cartoon series. The research method taken is a qualitative method in which the ability of students to describe the value of moral tests using tests and ruptures. The results of this study were the first of 31 students 22 people were able to explain moral values ​​well, and 3 people were excellent

Abstract

The belief that the West Papuan teachers applied translanguaging practice as strategy to enhance their students in ELT classroom. This study, investigated the West Papuan EFL teachers’ perceptions on translanguaging practices. It focused to explore the teachers’ knowledge and the teachers’ experience on translanguaging practice in EFL Classroom interaction in West Papuan. The participants of the study were three English language teachers (EFL) who work at state Islamic junior high school of Manokwari in West Papuan. The utterances of teachers’ interview were analyzed descriptive qualitatively using discourse analysis and the data gathered from classroom observations and semi-structured interviews were exposed to structural-coding analysis. The results showed that the EFL teachers have some perceptions about knowledge on translanguaging practice. There were translanguaging is a combination of Indonesian and English in the ELT Classroom, Translanguaging is a material transfer tool, Translanguaging is a safe and productive zone for students to do communication, Translanguaging is the moment for using mother tongue and local language in explaining material, Translanguaging is a strategy to improve and facilitate the understanding of material, Translanguaging is a strategy to enliven the classroom atmosphere. The EFL teachers also have experiences to apply translanguaging practice in ELT classroom. They used translanguaging to appreciate students in process of asking and answer the questions, to facilitate the transfer of material toward students, to assist the students in apply the target language, to respect the students’ questions that use the local language, and translanguaging as a challenge for teachers to master the local language of students.

Abstract

Abstract: Speaking skill is the skill that makes us communicate to each other effectively. The objectives of this study were (1) to find out the implementation of speaking activities used in English community, (2) to find out the problem of speaking activities. The subject of this study was the fourth semester of English Study Program at IAIN Curup which consisted of 53 students. In this study, the reseachers used descriptive qualitative method by using questionnaire and interview as the encouragement of the data. This study found that the findings of this study, reseachers found that the implementation of speaking activities started with the instruction of the activity, gave the topic, encouraged students with nice activities, and supported with the positive feedback at the end of activity. For the problem, the reseachers found two problems that significant appeared. The problems were inhibition and lack of theme to be spoken.

Abstract

The purpose of this research is to develop teaching materials in English speaking skills that are suitable for the needs of primary English teachers’ candidates in the Teacher Training and Education Faculty of Muhammadiyah University of Tangerang. The research is designed with a research and development study or R and D cycle consisting of seven steps: literature study, needs analysis, syllabus analysis, teaching material development, product validation, product testing and final product. Data collection techniques used observation, interview, questionnaire and product tests. The findings of the study reveal that 12 chapters of speaking teaching material was chosen for Primary English teachers’ candidates based on contextual approach, namely: greeting and introducing, counting numbers, talking about family, describing objects, talking about houses, school and class environment, telling time and talking about daily activity, talking about feeling and health issues, shopping time, asking and giving directions, talking about plans and telling past experiences. The results of the effectiveness test show that speaking teaching materials are stated to be good. These findings call for lecturers to apply the teaching material developed in the learning process as a main reference or as a supplementary material so that it can make learning material more interesting, innovative, and effective.

Abstract

In English there are four skills that should be mastered, they are listening, speaking, reading and writing. Speaking is a form of communication and basic skill that must be mastered by students since it is very important for them to communicate. Besides, also help student able to propose brainchild and feeling. In speaking, students should have the teacher who teaches with attractive method, in order they interest in studying. If they interest in studying, so the teacher easy to improve their speaking performance. Based on the observation, the researcher found that the students’ speaking performance were low. There are 4 problems in this research, from identification the researcher focused and emphasize the problem as follow : (1) The students have no confidence in speaking English. (2) The students afraid of speaking English. (3) The students cant’ meet minimum requirement. (4) The method that use is not interesting. In this research, the researcher focused on the students speaking performance. By knowing the weakness of students in speaking performance, the researcher can help the students to increase their speaking performance. In this case using silent way method is one of method that can be used in learning speaking. The objectives of this research are to know the effect silent way method toward the students’ speaking performance and to know how far the strength of effect of silent way method toward the students speaking performance. The population of this research was the students eight grade at SMP N 9 Metro, consist of 150 students. The researcher used cluster random sampling technique in making the sample. The sample were 30 students that was divided in two classes. The first class was experimental class and the second was control class. In experimental class the researcher did treatments, it has done in three meeting treatments. The data was analyzed by using formula t test. From the result and discussion it is proved that there is an effect of silent way method in learning speaking. So, the teacher needs to introduce to the students about silent way method in order to the students successful in speaking.

Abstract

Most students have difficulty in learning English especially for Writing material, because in addition to the problem vocabulary there is also a lack of student’s understanding of Grammar. It takes a while to work on Writing because it should consider the aspects of Vocabulary and Grammar. This research was conducted to find some Grammar errors which commonly done by students of Accounting study Program at Politeknik Harapan Bersama Tegal. So the purpose of this research is to analyze student Grammar mistakes in particular in descriptive text. This research uses qualitative descriptive methods as a method of research. Data presented in the form of descriptive analysis. From the results of the study showed that students make mistakes on the Verb Agreement 7.07%, Capitalizing 34.84%, Grammatical Error (Usage) 2.52%, Sentence Pattern 4.04%, pronoun 49.49%, Spelling 2.02%. From the result, it can be concluded that the students should learn Grammar especially about pronoun, because of the mistakes that most students do.

Abstract

Abstract: The aim of this study is to investigate the students needs for effective English online learning during Covid-19 for State Polytechnic of Bengkalis students. Descriptive survey method was used to find out the target needs and learning needs related to online learning. The data collection used was questionnaire with random samples of 116 students from five different study program. The result of the finding revealed that there were several tools that can be used during online class by considering both students and teachers internet access. The effective tools that can be utilized in explaining the subject and as the virtual tool to replace face to face meeting is Zoom application, while to share and submit the assignment the students preferred Google classroom and WhatsApp. Numerous activities and learning input are also highlighted in order to engage the students to be active in online class. The teachers roles in online class is pointed.
