Abstract

In the field of education, particularly in Tahfiz Qur'an pesantren, significant challenges exist regarding the commitment of mudarris (teachers), including issues such as the mismatch between academic qualifications and professional competencies, as well as the increasing demands for pedagogical skills and self-efficacy. Previous research has mainly focused on general schools, with little attention given to the relationship between educational qualifications, pedagogical competence, and self-efficacy among mudarris in Tahfiz Qur'an pesantren. The primary objective of this study is to analyze the impact of educational qualifications, pedagogical competence, and self-efficacy on the task commitment of mudarris at Tahfiz Qur'an pesantren. This study employs a quantitative survey design with 35 mudarris as respondents, and data analysis is conducted using regression techniques. The findings show that educational qualifications do not have a significant effect on task commitment, while both pedagogical competence and self-efficacy have a significant positive impact on mudarris' commitment. It is recommended that pedagogical training programs be made mandatory for mudarris, as academic qualifications alone are insufficient to ensure high levels of task commitment.

Abstract

This study investigates the influence of knowledge management and organizational learning on the competitive advantage of Sasirangan MSMEs in Banjarmasin, with organizational innovation functioning as a mediating variable. Although previous research has extensively examined these constructs in various industrial contexts, empirical evidence linking knowledge management, organizational learning, innovation, and competitive advantage within culturally based MSMEs—particularly Sasirangan craft enterprises—remains limited. Using a quantitative approach, data were collected from 139 MSME actors through structured questionnaires and analyzed using PLS-SEM. The results indicate that knowledge management and organizational learning significantly enhance organizational innovation, which in turn strengthens competitive advantage. Organizational innovation is also found to significantly mediate the relationship between both antecedent variables and competitive advantage. These findings contribute to the resource-based view and knowledge-based view frameworks by demonstrating that innovation capability is a critical pathway through which internal knowledge processes create competitive value in micro-scale creative industries. Practically, the study highlights the need for structured knowledge management systems, continuous learning mechanisms, and innovation-oriented organizational cultures to support the sustainability and competitiveness of Sasirangan MSMEs in evolving markets.

Abstract

Contemporary Muslim societies are increasingly shaped by a pattern of ritual-centered religiosity that emphasizes symbolic devotion while neglecting the substantive objectives of Islamic law (maqāṣid al-sharī‘ah). This trend has generated a fragile form of social resilience, marked by weakened critical literacy, poor economic planning, deteriorating family communication, and vulnerability to psychological and social pressures. The situation represents an urgent crisis of meaning, where religious enthusiasm is no longer balanced by strategic rationality and ethical responsibility. Classical Islamic scholarship, represented by al-Ghazālī, al-Shāṭibī, and Ibn al-Qayyim, positions maqāṣid al-sharī‘ah as the heart of Islamic law, oriented toward the preservation of religion, life, intellect, wealth, and lineage. However, in contemporary contexts, this normative framework often remains abstract and detached from practical social realities, creating a gap between theory and lived experience. This study aims to formulate the ASyA (Adaptive Sharī‘ah Advantage) Theory as an integrative model that reconnects maqāṣid al-sharī‘ah with the practical dimensions of modern life through the MILES framework (Money, Intelligence, Location, Education, Status). The study employs an original qualitative framework called the Maqāṣid–MILES Adaptive Synthesis Method (MMAS), which consists of three stages: (1) textual deconstruction of classical maqāṣid literature, (2) logical fallacy mapping of contemporary religious discourse, and (3) critical adaptive synthesis linking maqāṣid domains with the MILES components. The research produces an interdisciplinary conceptual matrix in which each element of MILES is mapped onto the five essential protections of maqāṣid al-sharī‘ah. This integration offers a dynamic and contextualized model capable of strengthening religious integrity, economic resilience, intellectual maturity, environmental awareness, and intergenerational continuity in Muslim communities. The ASyA Theory presents a transformative approach that shifts maqāṣid from a purely normative framework into an operational strategy for social resilience. It is recommended as a foundational model for future empirical research, educational reform, and policy-oriented Islamic social development.

Abstract

The rapid digitalization of education has transformed Islamic Religious Education (PAI) while simultaneously generating significant pedagogical and normative challenges, particularly in sustaining Islamic pedagogy and moral–spiritual formation within digital learning environments. When digital media integration is not guided by value-oriented pedagogy, PAI risks becoming technocratic and instrumental, undermining its core mission of cultivating akhlaq karimah, religious consciousness, and ethical agency among learners. This study aims to analyze and formulate a digital media integration model for PAI learning in Cirebon that is pedagogically transformative and normatively grounded in Islamic educational values. Using a mixed methods approach with a sequential explanatory design, quantitative data were collected through a survey of 30 PAI teachers in schools and madrasahs in the Cirebon region, followed by qualitative data from open-ended interviews. Data were analysed using descriptive statistics and the Miles and Huberman qualitative model, drawing on TPACK theory, the SAMR model, and an Islamic pedagogy framework emphasizing the integration of ‘ilm, iman, and ‘amal salih. The findings indicate that digital integration in PAI remains largely at substitution and augmentation levels, yet reflective, contextual, and collaborative digital practices significantly enhance student engagement and moral internalization. The study concludes that effective digital integration in PAI requires a value-conscious Islamic pedagogical framework supported by institutional policy and continuous professional development.

Abstract

The practice of prohibiting married couples from living together after the marriage contract but before the walimatul ‘ursy (commonly known as nikah gantung) remains socially binding in Hamayung Village, Hulu Sungai Selatan. This practice has generated controversy because it delays the exercise of spousal rights and obligations that, under Islamic law, should take effect immediately upon the conclusion of the marriage contract. As such, nikah gantung reflects a tension between the legal certainty of Islamic law and the dominance of customary norms as living law. This study aims to assess the compatibility of nikah gantung with Islamic legal principles through the frameworks of urf and maqasid al-shariah. The research adopts a normative Islamic legal (juridical-fiqhiyyah) method combined with a socio-legal approach, drawing on classical and contemporary fiqh literature, usul al-fiqh sources, statutory regulations, and limited field data to contextualize the practice. Data are analyzed qualitatively through takyif fiqhi, evaluation of urf, and maqasid-based assessment. The findings indicate that postponement of post-contractual rights may be permissible when it is voluntary and grounded in legitimate sharia-based reasons; however, the practice in Hamayung Village is collective, coercive, and reinforced by social sanctions, effectively transforming the recommended walimatul ‘ursy into a de facto legal condition. Consequently, this practice cannot be classified as urf sahih and contradicts legal certainty and family welfare. The study recommends strengthening legal awareness and repositioning customary norms to align with the objectives of Islamic law.

Abstract

Local deviant sects persist across Indonesia's religiously plural regions despite repeated fatwa declarations and enforcement efforts. Prior scholarship has examined MUI's authority and fatwa compliance mainly from a national vantage point, leaving the question of how demographic context shapes mitigation strategy underexplored. This study compares how MUI in Muslim-majority North Sumatra and Muslim-minority North Sulawesi each designs its response to local deviant sects, and asks which approach works under what conditions. Data were gathered through in-depth interviews with MUI officials at the provincial, district, and city levels in both regions, combined with fatwa document analysis and institutional reports. Informants were selected purposively. Source and time triangulation ensured data validity; analysis followed the Miles and Huberman model. North Sumatra MUI relies on a structural-corrective approach backed by formal fatwa decisions and close supervision. This proves effective at enforcing doctrinal boundaries but tends to harden resistance and strengthen internal solidarity among targeted groups. North Sulawesi MUI takes a dialogical-educational route, preserving plural harmony at the cost of slower doctrinal change. In both regions, MUI effectiveness hits the same ceiling: government intervention arrives only after formal legal violations occur, stretching the mitigation timeline and diluting preventive effectiveness. The demographic position of Muslims in a region determines which tools are available, which risks are tolerable, and what counts as success. Mitigation strategy cannot be standardized. The study contributes an adaptive, context-sensitive model of religious governance to the comparative study of Islamic institutions in Southeast Asia

Abstract

Contemporary religious radicalism is frequently associated with exclusive interpretations of the Qur’an, particularly when scriptural texts are detached from their historical and interpretive contexts. This phenomenon raises an important epistemological question concerning how different models of Qur’anic interpretation shape religious orientations in contemporary Muslim societies. This study examines the epistemological relationship between tafsīr and ta’wīl and analyzes its implications for contemporary debates on radicalism and religious moderation. Employing a qualitative library-based approach, the research combines content analysis and epistemological discourse analysis of classical and contemporary exegetical literature. Particular attention is given to the interpretation of Q. al-Tawbah [9]:5 as a representative case through which competing interpretive paradigms can be examined. The analysis focuses on sources of interpretive authority, the role of reason, contextualization, and maqāṣid al-sharī‘ah in the construction of Qur’anic meaning. The findings demonstrate that radical or moderate religious orientations do not emerge directly from the Qur’anic text itself, but are shaped by the epistemological frameworks through which the text is interpreted. While literal-textual approaches may contribute to exclusivist tendencies when detached from historical and ethical considerations, contextual and maqāṣid-oriented approaches provide broader space for interpretive plurality and ethical engagement. The study argues that tafsīr and ta’wīl should be understood as complementary rather than opposing paradigms and proposes an integrative epistemological model based on the interaction of riwāyah, dirāyah, and maqāṣid. This model offers a conceptual contribution to contemporary Qur’anic studies and provides a framework for strengthening religious moderation in plural societies.

Abstract

This study examines the development of an Islamic philanthropy model based on a waste bank system in the context of pesantren-based community empowerment. While previous studies have largely positioned waste banks within environmental management and economic empowerment frameworks, they have given limited attention to their potential role as mechanisms of Islamic social finance. This study addresses this gap by analyzing how economic activities derived from waste management can be transformed into socially oriented philanthropic practices. Using a qualitative approach with an intrinsic case study design, this research was conducted at the Tebuireng Waste Bank (BST), Jombang. Data were collected through in-depth interviews, participant observation, and document analysis involving waste bank managers, pesantren authorities, community participants, and beneficiaries. The data were analyzed using thematic analysis to identify patterns and construct a conceptual model. The findings reveal that BST operates beyond a conventional waste management system by integrating circular economy practices with pesantren values, enabling the transformation of economic value into social value. The proceeds from waste-related activities are collectively managed and implicitly function as a form of productive charity, contributing to social redistribution and community empowerment. This process is mediated by the pesantren's institutional and normative roles, ensuring alignment with Islamic principles such as trustworthiness, justice, and public benefit. This study proposes a conceptual model of Islamic philanthropy grounded in a circular economy framework, in which community participation, economic value creation, and social redistribution are interconnected in a sustainable cycle. The study contributes to the literature by extending the scope of Islamic philanthropy beyond traditional instruments toward community-based and productive practices. It also offers practical insights for developing sustainable empowerment models within Islamic social institutions.

Abstract

The implementation of the Qanun in Aceh still faces fundamental problems in the form of a gap between the legal text and the reality in society. Conservative religious interpretations and limited understanding of law enforcement officials can result in suboptimal protection of women's and children's rights in Islamic family law. This study aims to analyze the role of the Qanun in strengthening women's and children's rights in Islamic family law in Aceh. This study uses a literature study approach. The data analysis stage was carried out using qualitative content analysis and critical analysis techniques. The results of the study indicate that: 1). The historical dynamics of the Islamic family Qanun and responses to gender issues in Aceh indicate that the development of the Islamic Family Qanun in Aceh demonstrates a complex dialectic between Islamic values, local wisdom, and global awareness of gender equality. The post-2004 tsunami was a crucial momentum where the Qanun underwent progressive reforms despite still facing resistance from conservative religious understandings. 2). Protection of women's rights in the Aceh Qanun: between progress and challenges is that Qanun No. 6 of 2021 represents substantive progress in the protection of women's rights, particularly in marriage and divorce. However, its implementation is still hampered by patriarchal culture, the capacity of the apparatus, and the gender-biased interpretation of classical fiqh. 3). The effectiveness of the Qanun in Protecting Children's Rights and Ensuring the Best Interests of Children is that the Qanun has adopted the principle of the best interests of the child comprehensively, but its effectiveness is limited by the capacity of judges in child psychology, coordination between institutions, and a lack of synchronization with the national child protection system. Implementation of the findings of this study requires three strategic steps: massive socialization, increasing the capacity of Sharia Court judges, and harmonizing the Aceh Qanun with the national legal system.
