Abstract

This study investigates strategies for fostering discipline in early childhood within the Banjar community by integrating traditional games (bamainan) as a cultural medium. The research highlights the habituation method as a key approach, whereby teachers establish routines such as arriving on time, tidying up after play, queuing for turns, and maintaining classroom order. This process is enhanced through motivational storytelling, consistent teacher modeling, and the moral guidance of acceptable behavior, contributing to the holistic development of discipline in young learners. The methodology employed a qualitative descriptive approach, focusing on cultural practices in Banjar society. Data collection techniques included interviews, observations, and documentation to explore how discipline strategies are implemented in early childhood education settings. The analysis involved multiple stages: data collection, reduction, presentation, and conclusion drawing. The study also examined supporting and inhibiting factors influencing the development of discipline, such as teacher consistency, parental collaboration, and the child’s developmental readiness. The findings reveal that discipline-building in early childhood is deeply rooted in the cultural values of the Banjar community. Teachers play a pivotal role as models, demonstrating behaviors and engaging in active participation during activities to instill good habits. Supporting factors include the synergy between teachers and parents, while challenges arise from inconsistent parental involvement and the varying developmental stages of children. This research underscores the importance of culturally contextualized methods in nurturing character and discipline in early childhood education.

Abstract

This study aims to analyze the harmonization of Islamic values and the local wisdom of the Banjar community in South Kalimantan, particularly from the perspective of the Qur'an. The research focuses on the work of Sheikh Muhammad Arsyad Al-Banjari in the book Sabil al-Muhtadin, which serves as a primary reference in resolving tensions between Islamic law and local traditions. The method employed is a literature review with heuristic and hermeneutic approaches to interpret the texts in the book. The results indicate that Sheikh Arsyad successfully integrated local wisdom, such as the use of jamban, burial with tabala, as well as zakat laws and halal food, into the framework of Islamic law with contextual considerations. These findings affirm that Sheikh Arsyad's moderate and adaptive approach not only preserved the authenticity of Islamic teachings but also respected local culture. This research makes a significant contribution to understanding the dynamics of interaction between Islam and local wisdom, as well as its relevance to contemporary Muslim societies.

Abstract

This study explores the historical traces of the Hadrami community’s contribution to Islamic education and da'wah in South Kalimantan. The purpose is to examine and analyze the significant role of the Hadrami in spreading Islam, particularly through educational and cultural da'wah approaches in remote areas of the region. The research applies a descriptive qualitative method using sociological, anthropological, and historical approaches. These are integrated to investigate how the Hadrami contributed to Islamic propagation through da'wah networks, mosque establishment, halaqahs, and cultural assimilation with local communities.Findings reveal that Hadrami involvement in Islamic da'wah began as early as the time of Sunan Giri, and was strengthened by figures like Khatib Dayan and Sayid Ahmad Alaydrus. Their efforts extended beyond urban centers such as Banjarmasin and Martapura, reaching deep into the Dayak-inhabited highlands and rural areas like Hulu Sungai, Loksado, Hantakan, and Tanah Kusan. The Hadrami played a crucial role in the propagation and development of Islam in South Kalimantan through structured da'wah models and strong social networks. The study’s implication encourages further exploration of the Hadrami diaspora and suggests that their history in Kalimantan be considered an integral part of Hadrami heritage in Indonesia.

Abstract

This study explores the educational values embedded in Banjarese and Buginese folklore through a qualitative comparative analysis, emphasizing local wisdom, Islamic viewpoints, language use, and contemporary educational approaches. By examining folktales from these two ethnic groups, the research highlights how their narratives reflect sociocultural and Islamic values while addressing modern challenges like technological advancements and environmental issues. Through in-depth content analysis, the study uncovers how these traditional stories impart ethical lessons, social norms, and cultural heritage, positioning them as potential tools for fostering environmental responsibility and the mindful use of technology within educational contexts. The findings suggest integrating folklore into modern curricula, especially in language teaching, to enhance cultural awareness, promote Islamic moral principles, and encourage sustainable practices. Additionally, the research underscores the relevance of folklore in nurturing essential 21st-century skills, such as critical thinking, creativity, and ethical use of technology, particularly to strengthen the generation in the digital era. The comparison highlights both the common and different aspects of local wisdom in Banjarese and Buginese folklore, providing helpful advice for teachers on how to use these stories to improve language skills, moral development, and awareness of the environment in young people. Ultimately, this study contributes to ongoing discussions about the significance of indigenous knowledge, Islamic education, and folklore's role in addressing global issues, especially in the context of the digital age.

Abstract

This study examines the practice of sapambari in the ijarah (wage contract) system of the Banjar community, where remuneration is not agreed upon in a specific amount at the outset, but rather entrusted to the sincerity of the service user. This practice contrasts with the DSN-MUI Fatwa No. 112/DSN-MUI/IX/2017, which stipulates that the amount or quality of ujrah must be clearly defined in any ijarah contract. The study aims to explore the sociocultural reasons behind the use of sapambari and evaluate its validity within the framework of Islamic economic law. Employing an empirical legal research method with a descriptive qualitative approach, data were collected through in-depth interviews and document analysis involving 22 informants from the Banjar community. The findings identify four main factors contributing to the practice: (1) the habit of service users not specifying wages at the beginning; (2) the habit of providers not stating the wage amount; (3) the perception that the result of work is a gift rather than compensation; and (4) the influence of Islamic boarding school education. From the perspective of Islamic economic law, the absence of specific ujrah is legitimized through the principle of ‘urf (custom), rendering the ijarah contract with sapambari remuneration legally valid. The study implies the necessity of incorporating cultural practices into the formulation of local Sharia-based legal norms.

Abstract

Ketupat Kandangan, a traditional Indonesian dish from South Kalimantan, embodies the harmonious integration of Islamic values, cultural heritage, and economic sustainability in Banjar society. This study explores the significance of Ketupat Kandangan as a symbol of Islamic principles such as togetherness (ukhuwwah Islamiyyah), simplicity (zuhud), and gratitude (syukur), which are reflected in its preparation and consumption during religious and social gatherings. Through qualitative research methods, including observations, interviews, and documentation, this study analyzes the role of Ketupat Kandangan in preserving cultural identity, strengthening social cohesion, and supporting the local economy. The findings reveal that the communal aspect of preparing and sharing the dish reinforces Islamic values and cultural transmission, while the use of local ingredients supports farmers, fishermen, and culinary entrepreneurs. However, challenges such as limited shelf life and declining interest among younger generations necessitate modern innovations in packaging, marketing, and educational initiatives. The study emphasizes the importance of collaborative efforts among stakeholders to ensure the sustainability and competitiveness of Ketupat Kandangan as a cultural icon and economic driver. By embracing modernization while staying true to its Islamic and cultural roots, Ketupat Kandangan serves as an example of how traditional cuisine can be leveraged to strengthen both cultural identity and economic development in the face of globalization.

This research uses content analysis method with descriptive-qualitative approach. Data were collected through a review of relevant literature and analyzed systematically using data reduction, categorization, and in-depth interpretation techniques. This research found that Salam Tradisi Dayak include three main concepts: Adil Ka'talino (justice), Bacuramin Ka'saruga (reflection of goodness), and Basengat Ka'jubata (awareness of God ' s existence). These three concepts are in line with the goals of Islamic education which include aspects of faith, worship, and morals. The study concludes that Salam Tradisi Dayak can be an important foundation for building individual religious and moral awareness, as well as creating harmony between religious values and local wisdom. The implication of this study is the importance of preserving Salam Tradisi Dayak as a form of local wisdom that can be integrated into Islamic education to build moral and religious awareness, and create harmony between local culture and Islamic values. Abstract

The high rate of child marriage dispensation cases in Bone Regency underscores the urgency of strengthening child protection within the framework of Islamic family law. In this context, the recommendations issued by the Department of Women’s Empowerment and Child Protection (DP3A) have become a crucial component in judicial considerations at the Religious Court, despite ongoing debates about their legal status. This study investigates the legal standing of DP3A’s recommendations in child marriage dispensation cases using an Islamic legal approach grounded in qawāʿid fiqhiyyah    and maqāṣid al-sharīʿah. A qualitative method was employed, with fieldwork conducted at the DP3A office and the Watampone Religious Court. Data were collected through observation, documentation, and in-depth interviews, and analyzed using descriptive qualitative techniques. The findings reveal two key points: first, DP3A’s recommendations are based on government policy aimed at preventing child marriage and are designed to protect four key aspects of maqāṣid al-sharīʿah: the preservation of life (ḥifẓ al-nafs), intellect (ḥifẓ al-ʿaql), wealth (ḥifẓ al-māl), and dignity (ḥifẓ al-ʿirḍ) of the child. Second, although not formally binding by law, the recommendations are treated as mandatory for marriage dispensation applicants at the Watampone Religious Court and are aligned with Islamic legal principles through the lens of qawāʿid fiqhiyyah    and maqāṣid al-sharīʿah. These recommendations reflect a constructive synergy between regional policy and Islamic law in promoting child protection. This study contributes to the advancement of contemporary Islamic legal thought and supports the development of local regulations that are more responsive and grounded in public interest (maṣlaḥah).

Abstract

This study explores the relevance of Ibn Khaldun’s educational thought to contemporary alternative education practices, particularly the Sekolah Rakyat (People's School) model in Indonesia. As a classical Muslim scholar, Ibn Khaldun emphasized the transformative role of education in shaping individuals and sustaining civilization. Through a qualitative library-based method, this research analyzes key educational concepts from Ibn Khaldun’s Muqaddimah, including his views on the stages of learning, the integration of moral and intellectual development, and the social function of education. These concepts are then conceptually mapped against the philosophical foundations of Sekolah Rakyat, which emphasizes community-based, character-driven, and experiential learning. The study finds significant theoretical alignment between Ibn Khaldun’s ideas and the values promoted in Sekolah Rakyat, particularly in their shared commitment to holistic human development and social justice. The findings contribute to the revitalization of Islamic educational philosophy in contemporary contexts and propose a framework for integrating classical thought into modern alternative education models.
