Abstract

Student mistakes in solving trigonometry problems have an impact on low student learning outcomes. This study aims to determine the percentage of student errors in solving trigonometry problems and describe the causes of these errors based on the Polya Criteria guidelines. This research is descriptive qualitative type. The subjects of this study were 35 students of class X.J SMA N 1 Wonosari. Data collection techniques used in this study were tests and interviews. The validity of the data is based on the triangulation process. Data analysis techniques in this study use data reduction techniques, data presentation, and drawing conclusions. Based on the results and discussion, it can be concluded that the students' mistakes in solving trigonometry problems with the Polya Criteria guide are as follows: 1) Understanding the problem (12.99%), 2) Developing a solution plan (30.30%), 3) Implementing a settlement plan (26.19%), 4) Checking again (30.52%). The causes of these errors, namely: students cannot understand the purpose of the questions given, students rarely solve problems by knowing, asking, answering, and concluding, students are confused about applying the trigonometry formula to solve problems, students are hasty and careless in solving problems, students are not used to it and feel no need to write conclusions at the end of the answer. Keywords: error, trigonometry, polya criteria

Abstract

This study aims to determine the process of applying and improving learning outcomes, activities in the use of prezi applications in grade IV students of MI Muhammadiyah 25 Surabaya. This type of research is Class Action Research (PTK). The subjects of this study are 26 students of grade IV MI Muhammadiyah 25 Surabaya for the 2022 academic year. This research can improve mathematical performance, especially in expressing mathematical sentences. The data collection process is carried out through observation and testing methods. The implementation of this study took place in two cycles. The results obtained from the action on cycle I averaged 53.8% increased to 80.8% in cycle II. The improvement in cycle II has reached classical completion so that there is no need for the next cycle, so it can be concluded that the application of interactive mathematics learning media assisted by the prezi application can improve student learning outcomes and student activities.

Abstract

Algebraic thinking has an important role in solving mathematics problems. In addition, Adversity Quotient (AQ) is one of the factors that can help students succeed in solving math problems. This study aims to investigate the algebraic thinking skills of pre-service mathematics teachers (PMTs) in solving math problems based on adversity quotient (AQ). This study investigates three components of algebraic thinking, namely generalization, functional thinking, and justification. This research used qualitative approach with a case study method. The subjects were 30 PMTs at one of private universities in Surakarta District, Central Java, Indonesia. Data were collected by the algebraic thinking test, ARP (Adversity Response Profile) questionnaires, and interview protocol. The results showed that climber PMTs were able to demonstrate algebraic thinking activities in the components of arithmetic generalization, functional thinking, and generalization and justification. Camper PMTs were only able to demonstrate algebraic thinking activities in the components of arithmetic generalization and also generalization and justification. Meanwhile, quitter PMTs were unable to demonstrate algebraic thinking activities in all components. It can be concluded that the characteristics of AQ are related to the PMTs’ algebraic thinking abilities

Abstract

The ability of teachers to take advantage of technological developments in learning is highly expected so that students' attention increases in following the Learning process, one obstacle faced by students is the difficulty of understanding the material of cubes and blocks and their formulas. The purpose of this study is to develop interactive comic learning media that is expected to solve problems faced by students and teachers in learning. This Learning Media will be packaged in the form of an interactive Learning CD. This type of research is development research or Development Research. The development research model that the author uses is a computer-aided learning product development model (PBK). Validation is carried out by experts consisting of two lecturers and one teacher to see if this learning media is valid. From the results of the validity test questionnaire analysis conducted by the validator, it can be concluded that the overall validation results for interactive mathematics comic learning media obtained were 87.50 with valid criteria. While the practicality test was carried out by 26 students to see whether this learning media was practical to use or not. From the results of the analysis of student  practicality questionnaire sheets, it was obtained that overall  student assessment of the learning media used was 89.29% with practical criteria.

Abstract

Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics (STEM) are becoming increasingly important in today's society as they drive innovation and shape the future of the global economy. However, there is a persistent gender gap in STEM education and careers, with women significantly underrepresented in these fields. This gender gap can be attributed to various factors, including societal stereotypes, a lack of role models, and inadequate support systems for girls and women interested in pursuing STEM careers. This study aims to understand why women tend to avoid STEM careers and how to encourage women to be more involved in STEM fields. This study uses qualitative methods with interview collection techniques. The results of the study show that there are several aspects for women to be involved in STEM (1) initial exposure to the STEM field, (2) providing positive role models for women, (3) creating an inclusive and supportive learning environment, and (4) working actively to eliminate gender bias and stereotypes. Encouraging girls and young women to pursue STEM fields is critical as it not only helps create a more diverse and inclusive workforce but also opens up opportunities for innovation and advancement. Studies have shown that exposing girls to STEM fields at an early age can significantly impact their interest and confidence. In addition, they have access to positive female role models. They are creating an inclusive and supportive learning environment for girls in STEM fields. In conclusion, addressing the STEM gender gap and encouraging girls to pursue STEM careers is critical to creating a diverse and inclusive workforce, driving innovation and progress.

Abstract

Problem-solving is a mathematical skill that students need to develop to solve challenges in everyday life. However, this ability has yet to be fully mastered by students. Therefore, this study analyzes the problem-solving skills of ten-grade private Vocational High School students in Sragen, Central Java, Indonesia, particularly in the Linear Equations System with Two Variables (LESTV). This study used a descriptive qualitative method involving 25 Computer and Network Engineering students (CNE). The problem-solving indicators used are understanding the problem, devising a plan, carrying out the plan, and looking back. This study grouped students into three levels based on the results of the Mid Semester Assessment (MSA) of students' initial abilities, namely low, medium, and high initial ability levels. Based on the analysis, this study indicates that students with low initial ability levels are less able to understand problems and the other stages. Students with a moderate level of initial ability can meet the indicators of understanding the problem and devising a plan. Students with a high level of initial ability fulfill all problem-solving indicators. Students have been able to understand problems, devise a plan, carry out the plan, and look back. Students with a high level of initial ability can analyze and conclude the results of the answers correctly, accompanied by re-examining the solutions they have obtained.
