Abstract

Candidiasis disease caused by the fungus Candida albicans is a health problem in Indonesia. The chronic nature of the disease gets worse if it is accompanied by a fungal infection, which usually goes undiagnosed and untreated. Culture techniques can be used to identify the fungus Candida albicans. Mushroom culture in the laboratory requires a medium containing nutrients such as a carbohydrate source and a nitrogen source for growth. These nutrients can be found in bamboo shoots which contain high carbohydrates, protein, fat, vitamins, and crude fiber. So that bamboo shoots can be used as raw material for alternative mushroom growth media. The purpose of this study was to utilize bamboo shoots as a medium for the growth of Candida albicans herbal medicine. This research included collecting bamboo shoots, making rice bran media, inoculation of Candida albicans fungus on bamboo shoots media, and observing fungal growth. Candida albicans fungal colonies were confirmed by macroscopic and microscopic observations. The results showed that the fungus Candida albicans grew on both media, namely Bamboo Shoots Flour Media and Sabouraud Dextrose Agar (SDA) media at 37oC for 48 hours. The conclusion of this study is that bamboo shoots media can be used as a medium for fungal growth. Bamboo shoots media can be used as an alternative medium for synthetic media to grow Candida albican

Abstract

This study aims to visualize the vibrations of black holes using the Regge-Wheeler equation in Cartesian coordinates. Black holes are astrophysical objects with extremely strong gravity, and understanding the vibrations around them provides insights into the nature and structure of black holes. The Regge-Wheeler equation is used to model these vibrations. In this study, the goal is to generate visual images that visualize the vibrations of black holes, including their frequencies, amplitudes, and possible vibration modes. Complex mathematical and computational methods were employed to create these visualizations. The findings of this research result in an intuitive and accurate visualizations of black hole vibrations. By observing the patterns and distributions of vibrations in visual form, complex concepts can be more easily understood and interpreted. These visualizations provide a better understanding of the characteristics of black hole vibrations and can serve as learning and comprehension tools for scientists and researchers. The accomplishment of this research addresses a deficiency in prior studies that lacked informative and intuitive visualizations of black hole vibration phenomena. The visualizations produced in this study make a significant contribution to our understanding of black hole vibration phenomena. The enhanced visualizations allow researchers to perceive patterns and distributions of vibrations more clearly, paving the way for new insights into the nature of black holes. The implications of this research are an improved understanding of black hole vibrations and a broader dissemination of knowledge about this phenomenon to the general public. The generated images can help communicate complex concepts more effectively, enhancing awareness and interest in black hole research.

Abstract

Studies on the exploration of different food resources by adult butterflies in Indonesia have been relatively little attention. On 24 September 2022, a Blue Duffer Discophora nechohas been observed feeding on carrion of snake (Blue Coral Snake Calliophis bivirgatus) in the remaining secondary forest in Batu Gane Village, South Sumatra Province. This observation is a very interesting record, due to the lacking information on different food sources by adult butterflies in Sumatra, particularly when a butterfly feeding on the carrion of a snake.

Abstract

Pagaralam is a city in South Sumatra Province with five districts: North Dempo, Central Dempo, South Dempo, North Pagaralam and South Pagaralam. The main commodity is coffee. Coffee cultivation has a major problem, namely the attack of fruit and branch borer pests because it can reduce the quality and productivity of coffee. This study was to determine the level of attack by fruit borer and branch borer in the Dempo Tengah sub-district. Coffee farmers in Pagaralam use monoculture and polyculture cultivation systems. This field practice method is observation, observation in this study, and interviews with coffee farmers. The results showed that the attack of young coffee berry borer pests can cause the fruit to wither and fall off, while ripe fruit has holes in its seeds. Branch borer attacks cause branches to wither and dry. The highest percentage of fruit and branch borer attacks on coffee plants was found in young mixed-aged coffee plantations. In conclusion, fruit borer and coffee branch borer are more susceptible to attacking coffee at a young age, because young coffee plants have soft plant organs. Lush shade creates high humidity and low temperatures, which can make it easier for pests to breed.

Abstract

Access to clean water in Indonesia is one of the biggest problems. The main problem faced by the community is due to limited water resources and the problem of limited water quantity. Hence, they are unable to meet the increasing needs of the community. The decline in water quality is due to domestic and industrial waste entering water bodies. The influence of human activities so that pollutants entering the environment's surface, water, and groundwater increases yearly. Toxic and dangerous substances cause many problems to the environment and health. One of the harmful poisonous substances is heavy metals. This observational research is descriptive-analytic by testing the levels of metal iron (Fe), Lead (Pb), and pH of residents' well water. The research sample was collected using a sample grabber for the well water residents of Talang Betutu, Palembang. Samples were examined in the laboratory on the same day. The sample in this study amounted to 7 samples of residents' well water, which is still used for daily activities such as bathing and washing. Examination of heavy metals using a Uv Vis Spectrophotometer. The results showed that all residents' samples contained Fe and Pb at levels that did not exceed the quality standards. The chronic impact of consuming water containing heavy metals must be a concern because it lasts for a specific time.

Abstract

Reducing crop cultivation is providing ecological biota for plants through Integrated Pest Management (IPM). Farmers' problems regarding pests and diseases in Banyuasin and OKU Timur, especially for food crops and horticulture farmers. The purpose of this research is to evaluate the compliance of food crops and horticulture farmers in implementing safe and environmentally friendly IPM. Study on various fields of food and horticulture farmers in Banyuasin and Ogan Komering Ulu. The research method used is purposive sampling. Observation of Plant Pests and Diseases was completed directly in the field. Then determine the disease score in each sample plant. The parameters observed in this study are the behavior of farmers towards the decision-making process of using pesticides. Pest and disease intensity, and disease attack percentage were analyzed descriptively in the form of tables and graphs, as well as correlation analysis. The highest value of diversity of pests and diseases of food and horticultural crops based on the entire area of the observed land was found in a land area of 0.25 ha, which is the area that is often found in land for crop cultivation. The average age percentage of farmers in Banyuasin and OKU East is 40 to 50 years old. The average education of farmers in Banyuasin and OKU Timur is 24 farmers. The percentage and intensity of both horticultural and food crops in Banyuasin are good because only a few farmers get a score of 2 or 1. Cultivation techniques are land preparation, land sanitation, selection of resistant varieties, spacing, irrigation, crop rotation, intercropping, mulching, natural enemies of insects, and weeding.

Abstract

Farmers are concerned about the problem of drought in agriculture because it will disrupt the production system and cause losses. In 2015, the Indragiri Hulu area experienced a drought on 273 hectares of agricultural land. This area is part of the Indragiri River Watershed in Riau Province. To prevent the impact of future droughts, forecasting is required. The level of drought is influenced by rainfall, so the Seasonal Auto Regressive Integrated Moving Average (SARIMA) method is used to model rainfall data. In addition, the Standardized Precipitation Index (SPI) is also used to analyze the drought index. After the analysis, it was found that the best model in forecasting is SARIMA model (1,0,1)(2,1,1)12 with an average residual square of 18.0175, and the drought index in the Indragiri watershed is currently included in theĀ  "Normal" category. The results of this forecasting are expected to assist the Riau Province National Disaster Management Agency in anticipating and mitigating the impact of future drought disasters.

Abstract

Filariasis occurs as a result of parasitic infection by a mosquito vector. Filariasis affects the lymph and causes blood loss in the body. Filariasis is uncured. Therefore, prevention measures are needed to reduce the number of deaths. Filariasis generally does not cause death directly and rarely occurs. However, this results in an excess number of zeros in the data, which causes overdispersion. The data used were obtained from the book Indonesia Health Profile 2021, which covers the research area of Indonesia. The ZIP and ZINB regression methods were used to model the factors that affect mortality due to filariasis. Based on research conducted using ZINB regression, the results showed that the percentage of households with good sanitation has a significant effect on deaths caused by filariasis.

Abstract

Natural latex clumping takes longer than using chemicals. Another alternative is needed to coagulate the latex by adding acid from natural ingredients. Tomatoes (Lycopersicum esculentum Mill) have 29.32 mg of ascorbic acid and 0.54 g of citric acid every 100 grams, they have the potential to be used as a natural latex coagulator. The research method add tomato juice to fresh latex to break down the emulsion and form rubber lumps. After mixing, the weight of the latex is weighed. The constant variables are the latex volume of 10 ml, and the tomato juice volume of 5,10,20,30,40,50,60,70,80,90 and 100 ml respectively. The higher the volume of tomato juice, the faster it will clot. The best volume of tomato juice is 100 ml with a clumping time of 52 minutes. Increasing the volume of tomato juice increased the weight of latex to 13.1 grams and reduced the pH of latex to 4.9. Giving tomato juice every 5 ml accelerated clumping up to 360 minutes (6 hours) compared without tomato juice.
