Abstract

The purpose of this research is to describe the items of the final Arabic language test questions for students of the Government Islamic Secondary School 3 Malang in the light of the proficiency based curriculum (KBK). This research is the type of desk research on the descriptive analytical approach qualitative approach. The data sources in this research are in the form of Arabic language question documents for the final school exam in the curriculum based on proficiency. The data were collected in the manner of documents and interviews. The results of this research are in harmony between the items of the final Arabic language test questions for students of the Madrasah Aliyah 3 Malang in the academic year 2011/2012 with the curriculum on the basis of competence, which contains: Reading skill questions are also suited to normative and basic competence, although these items do not contain items of phonics questions in language questions and listening, speaking and writing items in language skills questions.

Abstract

This study aimed to determine the goal of teaching Arabic for Academic purposes. Teaching Arabic for non-Arabic speakers is generally divided into two types: Arabic language for life, which is a public program in which multiple attributes are related. Learning Arabic is only intended to communicate with Arabic in different situations of life. The second type is Arabic language programs for special purposes, including Arabic for academic purposes (AAP), Arabic for Businessmen People (ABP), Arabic for Education People (AEP), Arabic for Objective Purposes (AOP) and others. The researcher in this article focused on the Arabic language teaching program for academic purposes. The method used for this study was carried out using descriptive analysis method which the data were collected from personal interview with students of University of Darussalam Gontor and some documents. The result showed that the successful of teaching Arabic language for academic purposes related to use Arabic language in daily life as well as special activities such as scientific discussions.

Abstract

This study aims to determine the effectiveness of learning Arabic in improving learning outcomes by using Al-Thariqah Al-Intiqaiyyah in tenth class of science major at Islamic Senior High School 3 Jombang. This study used a quasi-experimental method with a non-equivalent control group pre-test post-test design. The population in this study were all tenth classes of science major at Islamic Senior High School 3 Jombang while the sample was tenth class of science major 8 as a control class and tenth class of science major 6 as an experimental class. Data were analyzed descriptively and inferentially.  From the test data, it can be seen that the average outcomes of the experimental class and the control class has increased. The average pre-test score of the control class was 55.25 and the average post-test score was 79.25 while the average pre-test score of the experimental class was 55.25 and the average post-test score was 87. Based on the results of the SPSS 16.0 analysis, sig values were obtained. (2-tailed) of the experimental class and the control class post-test was 0.00 which means less than 0.05. So it can be concluded that H1 is accepted then there is a significant difference between the experimental class post-test and the control class post-test. H1 acceptance proves that Al-Thariqah Al-Intiqaiyyah was effective in improving Arabic learning outcomes in tenth class of science major at Islamic Senior High School 3 Jombang.

Abstract

This research aimed to describe the type and functions of istitsna’ in Surah al-An’am, the meanings of ‘adawat istitsna’ and the implication for Arabic teaching and learning. The research design is descriptive qualitative. The result of this research, istisna’ phrases in Surah al-An’am based on type and function, those are istitsna’ muttashil which function is li takhsis, istitsna’ munqathi' which function is li istidrak and istisna’ 'mufarragh which function is li hasr. The ‘adawat isttisna' is not always meaningless "except" (kecuali/selain) but it can also mean "only"/"nothing but” (hanya/tidak lain hanyalah) in certain patterns. The implication of this research, there are 14 selections of patterns of istitsna’ that can be implemented in Arabic teaching and learning. For example, the patterns represented in understanding the theories of istitsna’ and the production of sentences by istitsna’ patterns for both of speaking or writing

Abstract

Involving first language (L1) in second language learning (L2) is considered as an effective method to be practiced. This research focuses on a contrastive study between Arabic and Indonesian. It aims to investigate similarities and differences of the two languages, especially about their interrogative sentence forms. It is descriptive qualitative research which applies two methods; observation and introspection method. Then, Contrastive Analysis (CA) is used to analyze the data. The result shows that similarity concept between Arabic and Indonesian is many shown on matā, ayna, limādzā, and hal. Meanwhile, differences between both of them are shown on mā, man, ayy, and kayfa. As a result, it may occur errors in the use of question, errors in translating interrogative sentence, and errors in understanding question.

Abstract

This research offered solutions and answers to the textbook problems of Arabic learning in the Arabic language development program at Islamic Studies Faculty of Universitas Muhammadiyah Malang. The development of textbooks was done by adding pictorial explanations to the relevant vocabulary, also the learning material developed according to the expected profession. In addition, interactive exercises and themes were adapted to student interests and program goals. This study used ADDIE as a research and development model to produce innovative study, productive, and meaningful. The results of the validity tests were as follows: language validation tests show a percentage of 90%. The result of content validation was 92%, design validation result was 86%, while the result of lecturer validation was 95%. From these data, it can be concluded that the textbook was valid. Similarly, the effectiveness test by using (T-Test) showed effective results so that textbooks that had been developed were feasible to use.

Abstract

The study aimed to describe the method of learning turats book with a translation model in al-Amin Islamic boarding schools. This research was conducted using a qualitative approach with the process of analysis deductively. The process of data retrieval was based on direct observation of the learning process in Ma’had Al-Amin. The results of this study were the process of learning turats book material using the Harfiyah translation or literal translation process. The learning process is supported by the existence of “syamil” book which contains of material on qawaid. With the existence of the book, students were able to translate books containing subject matter with the help of the book of syamil. Therefore, the purpose of learning can be directly conveyed and students' understanding of qawaid translation if it can be done outside the classroom.

Abstract

Mind Mapping learning, that uses images and text with a purpose to describe the instructional ideas and concepts, gets lot attention by academicians. A renewal of Arabic learning method and strategy through mind mapping needs to be implemented in Arabic learning. The purpose of this study was to find out the implementation of Mind Mapping to improve students’ Arabic speaking skill. The research method used in this research was descriptive quantitative by emphasizing the improvement of students' speaking abilities and eliminating boredom in learning Arabic. The analysis process presented the results of scores carried out before and after the implementation of mind mapping in Arabic learning. The results of this study were Mind Mapping strategy was effective in learning Arabic, especially in learning speaking skills, because it gave students the courage to bring out new vocabulary they must master. The results were known from the difference between students’ attitude and effectiveness of mind mapping before using this instructional strategy. Based on the percentage results, the success rate of learning rose by 30% and the level of boredom of students in learning decreased by 35%. It means that this strategy can be implemented to improve Arabic speaking skill of students with joyful learning.

Abstract

Translation is not only a process of language transfer, but also a transfer of culture from the source language to the target language. For this reason, translators must have broad and rich insights. The process to enrich cultural insights, knowledge, and treasures in the translation process can be formed through Jigsaw Cooperative Learning model because it is student-centered learning and requires them to independently seek and share knowledge. This study aimed to improve the ethos of students learning in Arabic translation subject and to improve students’ Arabic translation quality. This classroom action research was conducted two cycles (repeated seven times). Each cycle referred to Spiral Model by Kemmis, McTaggart, and Nixon. The subjects were 52 students of C Class and D Class in Terjemah Arab-Indonesia Course at Arabic Language and Literature Department of UIN Sunan Kalijaga Yogyakarta. The data of students’ learning ethos were obtained from performance grading rubric in Jigsaw Cooperative Learning and the data of Arabic translation quality were obtained from students worksheet assesment and end-of-cycle Arabic translation test. The results showed that Jigsaw Cooperative Learning improved (1) the learning ethos, especially the independence of students in seeking and sharing knowledge through Jigsaw Cooperative Learning and (2) the quality of Arabic-Indonesia translation. This model was effectively used for this course because students can translate longer texts with relatively short time.

Abstract

Himmati is deliberately created as a textbook modification to recognize the Qur'an prepared for beginners. This research aimed to describe the characteristics of teaching material contained in Himmati. This research was a qualitative approach and content analysis of the perspective of Thu’aimah.  It also belonged to library research with the main data source is a book, named Himmati: Modifikasi Pembelajaran Dasar Mengenali al-Qur’an from volume 1 to volume 5. The results showed that: 1) Generally, the teaching materials in Himmati were divided into 5 volumes which were presented inductively, namely the introduction of letters, words, tajweed, gharib, and verses in the Qur’an. Specifically, the teaching materials in Himmati were divided into 7 volumes which were presented with examples from the Qur'an and colored in the order of the frequency of visible light, from red to violet. The 1st volume focused on pronunciation, the 2ndA volume was on short vowels, long vowels, nunation (tanwin), and original sukuun, the 2ndB volume was on non-original sukuun and shadda, the 3rdA volume was on the law of nuun sukuun, nunation, germination nuun and miim, the 3rdB volume was on the law of miim sukuun, definite article al, and madd, the 4th volume was on the rule of exception, and the 5th volume was on the stop sign.
