Abstract

Technology has become an inseparable part of human life, exerting a significant influence on patterns of living and social behavior. Social media often gives rise to various ethical and moral concerns, including a decline in self-awareness, weakened self-control, and erosion of moral values. Sufism and technology can be integrated to maintain a balance between digital advancement and the spiritual depth of human beings. This article examines the implementation of Sufi teachings in the digital era, focusing on three key aspects: the development of virtual awareness, ethical conduct in digital engagement, and the cultivation of self-control. The study employs a literature-based approach, utilizing descriptive-analytical analysis and drawing on primary and secondary sources, including classical Sufi texts, contemporary literature on digital ethics, and scholarly articles. Its epistemological position is prescriptive, as it not only describes ethical phenomena in the digital sphere but also formulates normative principles based on Sufi teachings to reinforce digital ethics. The findings indicate that Sufism offers a value-based foundation for addressing digital challenges. Virtual awareness can be cultivated through the practices of dhikr, muhasabah, and muraqabah, which position technology as a medium for drawing closer to God. Digital ethics from a Sufi perspective emphasizes the importance of politeness, honesty, and a focus on the public good in every online interaction. Meanwhile, self-control can be exercised through disciplined use of technology, avoidance of negative content, and restraint from excessive digital desires. The implementation of Sufism in the digital era can serve as an effective strategy for maintaining equilibrium between technological utilization and spiritual needs, while simultaneously contributing to the development of a morally refined society.

Abstract

The rapid development of digital technology has altered people's media consumption patterns, making traditional radio often seem less relevant. However, the sustainability of the amateur radio community demonstrates that conventional media can adapt and still play an important role. This study examines how Radio Antar Penduduk Indonesia (RAPI) Jepara maintains its relevance through a hybrid communication model that combines amateur radio with digital platforms, including WhatsApp, Telegram, and live streaming. The research focus is on how RAPI adapts to media convergence while maintaining its community-based identity. This research uses a qualitative method with an ethnographic approach. Data were collected through observation, interviews, and documentation, then thematically analyzed using the Braun & Clarke framework to uncover patterns of meaning that reflect sociocultural dynamics within the community. The analysis was enriched by Everett Rogers' theory of innovation diffusion, which explains the process of technology adoption among RAPI members. The study's results show that amateur radio remains the primary communication medium, especially in emergencies, while digital media serve to enhance efficiency, coordination, and documentation. Innovation at RAPI Jepara takes place through hands-on experience, mentoring, and trust-based interactions. This study contributes to a broader understanding of media convergence and community resilience by affirming that technological adaptation does not necessarily eliminate the collective values or social identities of communities.

Abstract

This study examines a new model for addressing urban prostitution through a collaborative framework that integrates cultural da'wah and public policy, using the closure of Dolly District as a case study. Employing a descriptive qualitative method based on literature analysis and policy documents, the research traces patterns of interaction between culturally grounded religious approaches and governmental interventions. The findings suggest that cultural da'wah plays a significant role in shaping the community's moral awareness, while public policy facilitates the necessary structural changes. Their collaboration generates a more effective mechanism of social transformation compared with administrative closure alone. The study concludes that the synergy between cultural da'wah and public policy offers a new paradigm for tackling prostitution: one that goes beyond shutting down localisation sites by fostering a humane and sustainable social transition. This model has the potential to be replicated in similar urban contexts.

Abstract

The determination of lineage (nasab) constitutes a fundamental aspect of Islamic family law, directly influencing a child’s rights and social status, including inheritance, maintenance, and guardianship. In the modern era, advances in science particularly in biotechnology have introduced new methods of verification through DNA (Deoxyribonucleic Acid) testing, especially in Indonesia. This development has sparked debates within Islamic legal discourse regarding whether such scientific methods can serve as a legitimate basis for establishing lineage. This study examines the perspective of Yusuf al-Qaradawi, one of the leading contemporary scholars, concerning the legality and position of DNA testing in lineage determination. The objective of this research is to conduct an in-depth analysis of Yusuf al-Qaradawi’s views on the use of DNA testing for lineage determination, as well as to trace the methodological and jurisprudential arguments underlying his reasoning. A qualitative approach with a library research method was employed. Data were collected from Yusuf al-Qaradawi’s writings, contemporary works on tafsir and fiqh, and references on modern Islamic family law. The findings indicate that Yusuf al-Qaradawi does not reject the use of DNA testing; however, he regards it as a supporting form of evidence (qarinah), rather than the primary proof in establishing lineage. According to him, lineage in Islam is primarily determined through a valid marriage, not merely by biological compatibility. Nevertheless, in specific circumstances such as disputes over lineage or cases of switched infants DNA testing may be used as a reference, provided that it does not contradict the principles of Sharia and the pursuit of public welfare (maslahah).

Abstract

This study analyzes the unexpected electoral defeat of a three-term incumbent in the 2024 Provincial Dewan Perwakilan Rakyat Daerah (DPRD) race in Central Java’s Electoral District 4, an area historically characterized by strong Nahdlatul Ulama (NU) socioreligious dominance and long-term Partai Kebangkitan Bangsa (PKB) electoral stability. While existing research on Indonesian local politics underscores incumbency advantage rooted in ritual embeddedness, symbolic authority, and organizational loyalty, such explanations are insufficient to capture the challenger’s unprecedented rise. This article addresses that gap by examining the relational, communicative, and symbolic mechanisms that reshaped voter preferences. Using a qualitative case-study design, the research draws on eighteen semi-structured interviews, participant observation in religious and community events, digital-content analysis, and official data from the General Elections Commission (Komisi Pemilihan Umum, KPU). The findings reveal that the incumbent experienced a substantive decline in symbolic authority due to reduced ritual visibility and diminishing emotional proximity, corresponding with an 8–12% decrease in vote share across key polling-station clusters. Conversely, the challenger constructed legitimacy through embodied service practices, adaptive political communication tailored to diverse audiences, and hybrid digital–offline visibility that amplified everyday interactions into credible public narratives. The study concludes that voter behavior in NU-based rural constituencies is undergoing a cultural reorientation in which sincerity, accessibility, and continuous moral presence now outweigh structural party advantages. These insights expand theoretical discussions on personalization, symbolic legitimacy, and relational politics in Indonesia’s decentralized electoral landscape, providing a more nuanced understanding of how challengers can penetrate entrenched socioreligious strongholds.

Abstract

This study examines the dynamics of PKB Central Java’s open recruitment mechanism for legislative candidates in the 2024 election and analyzes whether the reform contributed to substantive internal democratization. Using a qualitative case study design, data were collected through in-depth interviews with party officials, aspirants, and local brokers across Pati, Rembang, and Kudus, complemented by document analysis of recruitment guidelines, interview evaluations, and administrative procedures. The findings show that the reform generated a form of hybrid openness: while the process expanded access, standardized interviews, and increased procedural transparency, final decisions remained strongly shaped by longstanding NU-based religious authority, particularly kyai endorsements and pesantren networks. Meritocratic tools such as interview scoring and documentation review enhanced procedural clarity but carried limited weight in determining rankings, reflecting selective meritocracy rather than full institutional transformation. The study also reveals significant district-level variation, with Kudus exhibiting greater alignment between assessment outcomes and final placement compared to the more hierarchical environments of Pati and Rembang. These patterns position PKB’s reform between symbolic and substantive democratization, producing visible improvements without altering deeper authority structures. The study contributes to the literature on internal party democracy by demonstrating how socioreligious legitimacy, territorial power structures, and institutional layering shape the outcomes of organizational reform in Islamic-oriented political parties in Indonesia.
