Two decades or more, in the global scheme, Islamic studies have been enforced to take broader paradigms from dogmatic-theology to popular-religious. Islamic studies is not merely discussing on sacred corpus only, but everyday life of Islam also. In academic space, this field has increasingly been an intersection -if not a contestation- across disciplines, such as political science, anthropology, sociology, history, economics, media, and cultural studies.

Abstract

Abstract: Transnational ideologies with a "fierce" face such as HTI, Muslim Brotherhood and Salafi have progressed from year to year, especially after the reformation. This is evidenced by their success infiltrated into the bodies of two large Indonesian Islamic organizations known to be very moderate (NU and MD) in the 2006-2007s. In response to this, the 33rd NU conference and the 47th MD conference in 2015 seemed to be evidence of the seriousness of the two organizations to not only improve themselves after being infiltrated but also to make both of them intensified to introduce Indonesian Islamic patterns to the outside. This paper concludes that the face of moderate Islam in Indonesia will be maintained as long as NU and MD remain steadfast as the "bodyguards" of the Republic of Indonesia. More than that, both of them are determined to utter a new Islamic model typical of Indonesia on the world stage, namely Islam Nusantara Berkemajuan. Therefore, the efforts of the transnational movement whose agenda is to replace the foundation of the Indonesian state into a caliphate will end in vain. Keywords: Moderate Islam, Indonesia's Contributions, NU, MD, Transnational Ideology.

Abstract: Multiculturalism is a form of cultural diversity in Indonesia. This variety has been established for a long time before the existence of the Indonesian state, still in the form of an archipelago. The diversity turns out to be fertile until now, because it is based on the spirit of the Qur'an. It's just that this symbol still needs to be fought continuously because there are always problems and imperfect shapes. So that at one time really manifested the Qur'anic multiculturalism. Keywords: Multiculturalism, Culture, and Indonesian

Abstract

Every law has its own features and characteristics that reflect its identity and essence, Islamic law is no exception. One of the peculiarities of Islamic law is that it is rabbani (not man-made), comprehensive, easy, realistic, there is no legal imposition beyond human capability, and it's moderate. The characteristics of Islamic law in addition to showing the value of compassion (mercy), also makes the Sharia brought by the Prophet Muhammad  always survives and relevant in every place, time and circumstance. Al-Qur'an and Hadith as two main sources of Islamic teachings explain a lot, both explicitly and implicitly, about the principle of ease in law. This is a form of Islamic attention to the situations and conditions experienced by humans that are relatively different in relation to the practice of Islamic teachings. From the two sources of the Shari'a the scholars formulated a number of rules which substantively contained the spirit of ease in law. So that even in difficult and narrow conditions, Islam guarantees its adherents not to come out of the Shari'a frame with an alternative dispensation called rukhshah. Keywords: Ease, law, rukhshah, al-Qur’an, hadith

Abstract

Leadership in Islam becomes a very interesting discussion to be discussed anytime and anywhere. Especially some time ago in Indonesia there had been a furious conversation about non-Muslim leadership. Speaking of non-Muslim leadership, of course, the Ulama from classical to contemporary times have a lot of views and opinions. Starting from the scholars who are pro with non-Muslim leadership and not a few who reject the existence of leaders from non-Muslim groups. We will review this discussion based on the Koran and Hadith. For the verses of the Koran we will focus on the QS. Al-Maidah verse 51, because that verse has been viral for some time and has become a trending topic in Indonesia. The method used in this paper is to use qualitative methods and extract data through research libraries. The Classical Ulama tend to reject non-Muslim leadership on the basis of maintaining the Islamic faith. While contemporary scholars tend to accept non-Muslim leadership with the assumption that what happened then and now is different, especially the presence of human rights makes everyone have the same rights when they want to or are a leader while still paying attention to existing restrictions. Keywords: Leadership, Non-Moeslim, and Islam.

Abstract

Religion as the largest ritual and social institution with the highest quantity of adherents among other institutions is often used as a justification for various violent behaviors. However religious leaders and adherents reject the relationship between religion and violence, the fact is that many subjects of violence act on certain religions. This article seeks to explore the relationship between them through Rene Girard's mimetic theory. In mimetic theory, violence is described as a consequence of the triangle of desire; subjects, mediators, and objects. The relationship in the triangle of desire shows disharmony, which is a rivalry that results in violence between the two desires of the subject and the mediator in getting the same exclusive object. Girard found how violence formed to its resolution by presenting sacrifice or third-party intervention called scapegoats, through stories contained in scriptures such as Cain and Abel. The concept of sacrifice is the foundation of the creation of sacred in religion and values about good and evil or obligations and prohibitions. The intimacy of religion and violence shows the importance of religion returning to the public sphere as a controller of violence whose role is privatized as a result of modernization but is often blamed in a variety of violence in favor of particular religions. Keywords: Mimetic Desire, Violence, Religion
