Abstract

Characters in literary works have an important role, because they become the main focus in the storyline. Characters can be observed about their personalities, one of which is about personality dynamics; which includes the processes that occur and result in changes in the character’s personality. The purpose of this study is to determine the personality dynamics from the character Sasaki Miyo in the anime Nakitai Watashi wa Neko wo Kaburu. The benefit of this research is to add references to the dynamics of Miyo’s personality in this anime. The research method used is qualitative with a literary psychology approach. Data collection was carried out by using the note-taking technique. The data found were analyzed using Sigmund Freud’s theory of personality dynamic. Three important elements that influence the dynamics of a person’s personality are instinct, anxiety, and defense mechanisms. After being analyzed, the character Sasaki Miyo is known to experience personality dynamics by experiencing these three elements. At the beginning of the story, Miyo is told to have a closed nature with those closest to her. After being trapped in the form of a cat and successfully carrying out a compensation-type defense mechanism, Miyo’s desire to survive is getting stronger, so she tries to snatch her human form from the figure of the mask seller. After successfully seizing her human form, Miyo experiences moral anxiety that makes her realize what she has done so far that she doesn’t want to open up with her family. Miyo also tries to fix this and wants to be more open with her family and closest people. Miyo realized that turning into a cat and running away from her problems would not solve the problem. Keywords: anxiety; defense mechanism; instinct; literary psychology; personality dynamic.

Abstract

The purpose of this study is to identify the embedding of the vocal phoneme in gairaigo in Higedan’s Japanese song lyrics and to describe the changes in moral and its syllables. The benefit of this research is that Japanese language learners can understand the detailed process of the vocal embedding in gairaigo in Japanese song lyrics. The theories used are Hirayama’s theory about vowel phonemes in Japanese, Kawarazaki and Kubozono’s theory about embedding vowel phonemes in closed syllables, and changing the syllables in gairaigo, Sutedi’s theory about mora and syllables. This research method is a qualitative method with a descriptive approach. The data source is from the album song Traveler by the Japanese band Official Hige Dandism (Higedan) with data in the form of gairaigo which has undergone a process of embedding vocals. Researchers used literature study techniques to collect data, then analyzed with descriptive techniques. The findings found that gairaigo underwent a process of embedding vowels as many as 15 words which were divided into 3. First, embedding vowel phonemes at the beginning of words as many as 5 words, namely furiidamu (フリーダム), adobanteeji (アドバンテージ), sutookaa (ストーカー), kurosuwaado (クロスワード ) and sutoorii (ストーリー ). Second, the embedding of vowel phonemes in the middle of the word consists of 2 words, namely, iesutadai (イエスタデイ) and kontorooru (コントロール). Third, embedding vowel phonemes at the end of words as many as 8 words namely, poketto (ポケット), patto (パット), binteeji (ビンテージ), endo (エンド), fitto (フィット), taaminaru (ターミナル), rokku (ロック), and souru (ソウル). The process of embedding these vocal phonemes also influences the occurrence of changes in mora and syllables. Keywords: gairago; Higedan song lyrics; vocal embedding; vowel phoneme.

Abstract

Shortly after the New Year celebration (oshogatsu) in Japan, there is a hereditary tradition of serving nanakusa-gayu dishes. Nanakusa-gayu is rice porridge especially served by mixing seven kinds of leaves that are considered sacred by the Japanese. The seven types of leaves include seri, nazuna, hakobera, suzuna, suzushiro, hotokenoza, and gogyou leaves. This research discusses the tradition of eating nanakusa-gayu dishes for Japanese society in this modern era. The method used in this study is descriptive qualitative with data in the form of tweets from social media twitter on January 7, 2023. The results of the research show that there are still many Japanese people who carry out the tradition of eating nanakusa porridge. However, there have been several shifts in tradition, such as the ingredients, when to eat, how to get the ingredients, to the members of the family who participate in eating the nanakusa porridge. In addition, it is also known that there is correlation between the implementation of the nanakusa-gayu tradition with the hope of avoiding various kinds of diseases. This correlation cannot be separated from the activity of picking baby vegetables which is the basic core of the nanakusa-gayu tradition. This activity requires a person to keep moving along the streets while looking for baby vegetables. By doing so, the Japanese will have a healthy body, so they are immune from disease. Abstract

This study aims to analyze the relationship between the honorific expressions of kenjougo with the uchi-soto concept and the form of subtitle translation in the Shimbun Kisha drama (The Journalist) in 2022. This study uses a qualitative and descriptive method with the honorific theory of kenjougo proposed by Iori (2001). The data sources used in this study were taken from oral and written data contained of kenjougo expressions in the Shimbun Kisha drama episodes 1-4. The data is obtained from Netflix with a duration of 45 to 60 minutes for each episode. The results of the study show that the form of kenjougo expression that appears most often in the Shimbun Kisha drama is a special verb form. Based on the relationship between participants and the concept of uchi-soto, the study results also show that the use of the expression kenjougo tends to be used in the concept of soto. In translation results in Japanese drama subtitles, the concept of uchi-soto are often not being considered by the translator. It can be seen in the use of several pronouns in Indonesian which are usually used in informal situations such as aku, kau, -mu and -ku. In addition, there are several changes in meaning made by translator. This is caused by the translator's lack of understanding of the uchi-soto concept. There are also cultural differences between the Japanese concept of uchi-soto and polite language in Indonesian. Indonesian does not recognize the honorific expression kenjougo so there are differences in perception in the translation process. The analysis of the form of honorific translation illustrates the complexity of the translation process which affects the equivalence of the translation. Keywords: audiovisual translation; kenjougo; uchi-soto concept.
