Jurnal AYUMI adalah jurnal budaya, bahasa dan sastra yang diterbitkan oleh Program Studi Sastra Jepang, Fakultas Sastra, Universitas Dr. Soetomo Surabaya. Jurnal ini memuat hasil penelitian, artikel ilmiah, dan studi pustaka tentang budaya, bahasa, dan sastra Jepang. Kami mengundang para dosen prodi bahasa dan sastra Jepang, peneliti dan praktisi untuk mengirimkan karyanya baik dalam bahasa Indonesia maupun bahasa Jepang. Jurnal ini terbit dua kali dalam setahun, yakni setiap bulan Maret dan September. Batas akhir pengiriman naskah untuk edisi Maret adalah bulan Januari dan untuk edisi September pada bulan Juli.

Abstract

Love languages are communication patterns in relationships used to convey feelings to someone special. Acts of love languages often appear in non-verbal behaviors that strengthen relationships and help partners get to know each other. According to Gary Chapman, there are five types of love languages. Love languages behaviors are often seen in the film The Wind Rises by Hayao Miyazaki, which was chosen as the data source for this research.This research uses a descriptive analysis method to identify the categories, meanings, and functions of non-verbal messages in love languages actions in the film The Wind Rises, based on Yule's pragmatic theory (1996), Chapman's love languages theory (2010), Richmond and McCroskey's nonverbal message categories theory (2004), Danesi's semiotic theory (2011), and Knapp's non-verbal message functions theory (1978).The data analysis results show that the film The Wind Rises includes four of the five types of love languages: 1) words of affirmation, 2) acts of service, 3) quality time, and 4) physical touch. The film also fulfills six of the eight categories of nonverbal messages: 1) gestures and body movements, 2) facial and eye behavior, 3) vocal behavior, 4) time, 5) touch, and 6) environment. The meanings of non-verbal messages are influenced by the situation and condition of the interactions between the characters, such as sincerity, trust, harmony, and closeness. Their functions include: 1) complementing, 2) substituting, and 3) repeating. Keywords: love languages; nonverbal actions; nonverbal messages.

Abstract

This reasearch discusses the structure of fukugoudoushi formation based on the word classes that form it and the meaning relationships arising from the combination of word classes that form the fukugoudoushi. Both problems are analyzed using the theory of Himeno in Nohejl (2016) and the theory of fukugoudoushi forming meaning relationships of Himeno in Hayashi (1993). The method used is narrative qualitative, which discusses the meaning of fukugoudoushi seen in the novel Suzume no Tojimari with narrative chronology. The result of this research found 57 data points for verb and verb pattern (V1+V2). In addition, there are 9 data points having a V1 relationship as the determinant of overall meaning, 32 data points having a V1 relationship followed by a V2, and 13 data points having a V2 relationship that can only be expressed in other words, 3 data points having a V1 and V2 meaning relationship when combined becomes difficult to analyze. Abstract

Japanese culture is rich of traditions and festival that have become an inseparable part of the national identity. One form of these cultural richnesses is matsuri. Matsuri is a festival that honors local gods or celebrates important events in the history of a community in Japan. This tradition continues to live and is passed down from generation to generation, encompassing various aspects such as beliefs, customs and art. This study focuses on the representation of traditional Japanese culture in the anime Konohana Kitan by Sakuya Amano, which represents various elements of Partly Verbal Folklore. Through qualitative analysis, the study analyzes several Japanese cultural traditions such as hanami, kagura dance, Shichi-Go-San, Bon Odori, and religious elements such as Buddhism and Shintoism. This anime does not only serve as a medium of entertainment, but also as an effective educational tool to introduce and preserve Japanese cultural heritage. The results of this study indicate that Konohana Kitan contains many aspects of Partly Verbal Folklore that are still relevant and valued in modern Japanese society, thus making a significant contribution to the preservation and dissemination of traditional Japanese culture. Abstract

Kotowaza or proverbs in Japanese are figurative sentences used as teaching or satire. Some Kotowazas have similar meanings to Indonesian proverbs, and similarities and differences are caused by cultural, historical, and demographic factors. This study is 1) to find out the equivalent meaning of Japanese Kotowaza containing the element inu in Indonesian proverbs and 2) to describe the factors that influence the differences between Kotowaza containing the element "inu" and the equivalent in Indonesian proverbs. The data source used is "Shin-meikai Dongeng and Kotowaza Dictionary edition 2," published by the Sanseidou editorial office, with data in the form of Kotowaza containing the element inu (犬) or dog. The theory used in this study is the theory of language variety put forward by Subarianto (2000), which mentions several factors that cause the emergence of language diversity, namely cultural, historical, and demographic factors. The research method used is descriptive qualitative, with the focus of research on all Kotowaza (Japanese proverbs) containing the element "inu." The data collection technique used documentation techniques and contrastive analysis techniques. From the results of the study, it is known that from 73 Japanese Kotowaza containing the element "inu," 15 data were found that have equivalent proverbs in Indonesian, with the difference being that animals appear to replace inu, such as monkeys, tadpoles and crocodiles, and equivalents that do not appear animals at all. Of the 15 Kotowazas, it is known that there are factors that influence the equivalent between Japanese Kotowaza and Indonesian proverbs; namely, 5 data are influenced by one factor, two factors influence 8 data, and one factor influence 2 data. This finding concludes that cultural factors always appear in 15 Japanese Kotowaza data with equivalents in Indonesian proverbs. Keywords: equivalent prover; inu; Japanese language; kotowaza

Abstract

Sociolect, a branch of sociolinguistics, examines language variations influenced by social class, community groups, and the status of speakers. One form of sociolect is colloquial language, an informal type of speech commonly used in daily interactions. This study aims to describe the use of colloquial language variations in the anime Detective Conan: Crimson Love Letter, focusing on how such language reflects the social dynamics among characters. The research was conducted using a descriptive qualitative approach based on primary data collected directly from the anime's dialogues. The analysis revealed five colloquial language variations influenced by factors such as situation, age, social status, gender, and geographical background. These findings demonstrate that the use of colloquial language not only enriches character portrayal but also strengthens the emotional connections in their communication. Abstract

This study compares the Japanese expression sumimasen and the Javanese expression nuwun sewu, both of which function as forms of apology or request, through a contrastive analysis approach. The focus of this research is to identify the similarities and differences in terms of usage context, pragmatic meaning, and the implicit as well as explicit cultural values embedded in these expressions. The study aims to understand the linguistic and cultural dynamics that influence the use of both expressions. Data were collected from various written sources relevant to these expressions. The method employed in this study is descriptive qualitative. The findings indicate that sumimasen and nuwun sewu are both used in contexts of apology or request; however, they differ significantly in terms of politeness levels, social contexts, and cultural backgrounds. Sumimasen tends to be used in both formal and informal situations with an emphasis on general politeness, whereas nuwun sewu is more commonly found in Javanese culture, which emphasizes social hierarchy and the concept of unggah-ungguh (etiquette or respectful behavior). The results of this study are expected to contribute to cross-cultural studies, particularly in understanding the pragmatic differences between Japanese and Javanese in the context of making requests or apologies. Abstract

The product name is part of the brand identity that serves as a communication tool between the company and consumers. The product name must be able to create a strong perception of the superiority of a product and distinguish it from other similar products. This research aims to find out how the informational function and symbolic function contained in product names on Japanese snacks with the fami maru logo at Family Mart Nagoya. This research uses descriptive qualitative method by using the theoretical framework of Landscape Linguistics. The results show that the informational function contained in the product names of Japanese snacks is based on the basic ingredients, additional flavors, and food texture. Meanwhile, in the symbolic function, there are four types of Japanese writing used in product names in Japanese snacks with the fami maru logo at Family Mart Nagoya, including hiragana, katakana, romaji and kanji. Abstract

Cosplay, originating from Japan, has become a popular way for individuals, including those in Indonesia, to express themselves and gain recognition, especially through Instagram. Despite its growing influence, little research explores how cosplay contributes to self-actualization. This study, based on Maslow’s Hierarchy of Needs, examines how cosplay fulfills psychological and social needs. Using a qualitative narrative approach, data was collected through online interviews and Instagram observations of cosplayers. Findings reveal that cosplay enhances self-confidence, fosters social connections, and provides validation, especially through social media. It also helps cosplayers manage stress, express creativity, and explore career opportunities. However, challenges such as negative comments and societal pressure persist. Ultimately, cosplay proves to be a powerful tool for self-actualization, though it does not always follow Maslow’s strict hierarchy of needs.
