Abstract

One of the courses have often difficult by pre service teacher in primary education is Geometry, evidently by learning outcome that are still low. Difficulties experienced by students led to an error occurred in solving problem in geometry. Errors that occur when students solve problems in geometry really need to be known, especially the type of error. One of procedure that can be used to reveal the student error is Newman procedure. This research employed a descriptive qualitative method that aimed to analyze the errors of pre service teacher in primary education when solve the problems in geometry.  Participants in this research were two students who have taken the courses of Geometry and meet the criteria which is experiencing a mathematical error. Data collection technique use a question sheet and interviews. Question sheet given in order to analyze student errors that appear. While the interviews were conducted to confirm the results of student work. The results showed that the four stages of the procedure of Newman Error Analyze that comprehension, transformation, process skill and encoding occur mathematical error, logical error and strategic error. Furthermore, as new findings in this research, the error experienced by the students at this stage of the procedure Newman can cause errors in the later stages.

Abstract

Mathematical communication is the ability of students to explain an idea from the results of thinking with pictures, diagrams, or mathematical symbols verbally or in writing, so mathematical communication is very important for students to have. Among the learning models that can be applied in the learning process are Think Talk Write (TTW) learning models. By implementing Think Talk Write (TTW) students are expected to be able to practice their mathematical communication skills both orally and in writing. Based on the steps of Think Talk Write (TTW) namely thinking, speaking and writing it is very possible to improve students' mathematical communication skills. Because in the Think Talk Write (TTW) learning model students are trained to think independently of various learning sources. Steps of Think Talk Write (TTW) also trains students to speak to convey ideas from the ideas that have been found and to obtain the results of the discussion in their own language. Both of these steps accustom students to practice mathematical communication skills of students both verbally and in writing

Abstract

The development of the world globally in various fields of life has demanded intense competition. Therefore, every individual who inhabits this world needs to have certain competencies in order to be able to compete in this globalization era. Hence, each individual must be able to think at a high level (higher order thingking / HOT) especifically on math subjects. But the problems that occur, there are still many students who have difficulty in solving the problems in the form of higher order thinking (HOT) so that they have not been able to compete globally. To overcome this problem the researcher carried out a higher order thingking analysis on Algebraic material. This study aims at describing the analysis of higher order terms in Algebraic material. The method used were a test and interview of 3 informants in six schools based on students' levels of ability, namely high ability, moderate ability and low ability. The results showed that there were differences in solving HOT problems in students who had high, medium and low abilities.
