Abstract

Thermal insulation in a residence can help keep the room's temperature stable, allowing maximum comfort at work and relaxation. Because of its low thermal conductivity value of 0.1166 W/mK, banana stem fiber (BP) is an environmentally friendly thermal insulation material, while the matrix uses polypropylene (PP). Because excessive polypropylene production can pollute the environment, recycled polypropylene (PPDU) should be investigated as a candidate matrix. This study employs compression molding at a pressure of 8 MPa and a temperature of 170 °C for 60 minutes, with volume fractions of banana stem fibers varying by 10%, 30%, and 50%, as well as different matrix types, namely PP and PPDU. The manufacturing results were then evaluated using density and thermal conductivity tests. The density testing results for BP/PP and BP/PPDU decreased as more volume fractions were added. This phenomenon can occur as a result of void formation during the manufacturing process. Furthermore, the thermal conductivity values for BP/PP increased from 0.37 to 0.89 W/mK and from 0.58 to 0.94 W/mK for BP/PPDU, respectively. The lower the thermal conductivity value, the smaller the volume fraction of fiber. Similarly, pure PP is preferable because it has lower conductivity values than PPDU.

Abstract

Diversity of plants that are sources of vegetable oil grows abundantly in Indonesia, making Indonesia have potential to become a large vegetable oil-producing country. Moringa plant is one of plants predicted to have new potential as a vegetable oil-producing plant. The seeds of Moringa plant, which contain 35–40% oil, are used for various purposes such as pharmaceutical, cosmetic, and automotive industries. Saturated fatty acids contained oleic acid, palmitic acid, stearic acid, behenic acid, and arachidic acid which are beneficial for health. Moringa seed oil also contains antioxidants, antimicrobials, and vitamins C, E, B1, and B2. Oil extraction from Moringa seeds in this study used mechanical pressing method with moisture content of Moringa seeds 8 and 16% w/w. The pressing temperature varied at 80oC, 100oC, and 120oC. Characterization of fatty acid composition of Moringa seed oil was obtained by fatty acid content of 74.6–79.9% oleic acid, 5.77–7.78% palmitic acid, 4.71–5.48% stearic acid, 4.83–8.71% behenic acid, and 2.76–6.5% arachidic acid. Highest antioxidant activity was obtained at a pressing temperature of 80oC with a moisture content of 8% Moringa seeds, resulting in an IC50 value of 67.4 ppm which is included in compounds with strong antioxidant activity.

Abstract

MIMO (Multiple-Input Multiple-Output) Antenna Technology improves wireless network performance by allowing the use of multiple transmit and receive antennas simultaneously. MIMO antennas use antenna elements in an array, such as circular microstrip antennas, to increase signal throughput and reliability. This research simulates and develops a circular microstrip antenna into a 1×4 axe MIMO with array, operating at 2.4 GHz. The simulation shows return loss (S11) -60.913 dB, insertion loss -50.439 dB, VSWR 1.001, bandwidth 116.3 MHz, and gain 5.709 dBi. The results of fabrication and measurement achieve return loss (S11) -61.69 dB, insertion loss -43.16 dB, VSWR 1.00, bandwidth 137.2 MHz at a frequency of 2.4260 GHz. Even though there is a frequency shift of 260 MHz between the simulation and measurement results, the design of this antenna is successful according to the desired specifications.

Abstract

A bridge is the main infrastructure that connects two parts that are cut off due to an obstacle that cannot be built conventionally. To expedite and facilitate land transportation, bridges are needed to connect one region to the next. The foundation is one part of building construction which functions to place the building and transmit the load distributed from the upper structure to the foundation soil which is strong enough to support it without differential settlement occurring in the structural system. At this project location, a type of suspension bridge was chosen using a Strauss pile foundation. The aim of this research is to analyze the bearing capacity and settlement of foundations based on Standard Penetration Test (SPT) data, laboratory tests and sondir/Cone Penetration Test (CPT). In this study, the depth and diameter used are the same, the only difference is the method used. Based on the analysis results, the bearing capacity value using N-SPT data was 2021.72 kN, while the permit carrying capacity value using Laboratory and Sondir data was 1108.98 kN and 804.71 kN respectively.

Abstract

The Taguchi method uses signal-to-noise ratio (S/N) analysis to obtain optimal values and requires repeated data collection combined with control factors. However, in practice, the Taguchi method is still not in accordance with this concept, even though there are standard analysis options that do not require repeated data collection. In this study, a validation study of the Taguchi method was conducted for the case of a single data collection by comparing the optimization results obtained against standard analysis and validation experiment results. Determination of validity is carried out based on four comparison parameters, namely the combination of control factors, prediction of optimum value, deviation of optimum value prediction, and ranking of control factor influence. This research was conducted using a turning process case study. From this research, it is concluded that the Taguchi method for optimization of a single data collection is valid.

Abstract

This study aims to analyze measures to prevent progressive collapse of the Tinjomoyo Bridge in Semarang through hydrological and geotechnical approaches. The research employs a quantitative method with a descriptive approach to evaluate issues encountered in the field. The study includes an analysis of the impact of adding crib structures on riverbank slopes to mitigate scouring caused by water flow and redesigning the bridge pier foundation structure based on soil investigation data and loading conditions. Hydrological analysis indicates that a downstream weir slope of 20% effectively directs water flow to prevent damage to the slopes and bridge piers. Simulations using Plaxis 8.2 reveal that adding crib structures to the riverbank reduces longitudinal displacement by 269.07 mm. Furthermore, the structural safety factor increases from 10.774 (initial condition) to 12.024 (engineered condition). From a geotechnical perspective, redesigning the pier foundation using bored piles with a diameter of 1 meter and 12 pile groups effectively supports the applied loads. Based on the analysis, the proposed crib and foundation design are recommended as solutions to prevent progressive collapse of the Tinjomoyo Bridge. This solution is expected to provide long-term safety and stability for the bridge structure.

Abstract

The Comprehensive Systematic Land Registration Program (PTSL) main requirement is land registration map in a scale of 1:1000 and horizontal accuracy (CE90) class 1 of 0,3 meters. Global Navigation Satellite System–Post Processing Kinematic (GNSS-PPK) provides good accuracy without Ground Control Point (GCP) correction, thus reducing cost and data acquisition time. GNSS-PPK without GCP correction is considered accurate in areas <500 meters elevation. This research aims to determine the GCP correction importance for photo accuracy in PPK process. This study analyzes aerial photo accuracy with and without GCP correction in areas with elevations from 200 to 430 meters. The data required are aerial photos, coordinates in RINEX files, Digital Terrain Model (DTM), and 8 GCP points. Coordinate files are calculated using the PPK method then used for photo correction. Photos are processed with and without GCP correction. Photo without GCP correction has a significant deviation than photo with GCP correction and does not meet the CE90 requirements. The accuracy has a negative correlation with an elevation of -0,041 without GCP and -0,76 with GCP. This study proves that GNSS-PPK method still requires GCP and it is not proven deviation in data without the GCP correction is directly proportional to elevation.

Abstract

COVID-19 has spread rapidly in places where people interact socially, with aerosol transmission being a significant concern, especially in enclosed spaces where infected individuals spend extended periods with others in crowded and poorly ventilated conditions. The use of masks is a preventive measure against the spread of the virus that causes COVID-19. Concerns have been raised that carbon dioxide may accumulate in masks over time, potentially leading to respiratory issues and other problems such as impaired concentration at work. This research aims to conduct an experiment to study concentration based on the physical work environment, including factors such as room temperature, Body Mass Index (BMI), duration of mask use, and age. Concentration will be measured through reaction time, which includes visual, auditory, and motor components, using a factorial design method. The results of the study indicate a significant relationship between the concentration, represented by the reaction time of the respondents, and several factors: temperature, BMI, age of the respondents, and type of reaction (visual, auditory, and motor). Based on factorial analysis, it can be concluded that temperature, age, BMI, and type of reaction all influence reaction time at a significance level of 5%.
