Abstract

The catch of rebon shrimp which are abundant in season in the coastal of Pangkalan Susu subdistrict, is utilized by the community of Pulau Kampai village to be processed into shrimp paste which has been passed down for generations and has become a legendary product of this village. One community group that produces shrimp paste is the Atha Baroe home industry. Production yields, which are still on average 50 kg per month, are still very small because this business is still carried out in the traditional way and still requires a touch of technology to improve quality and selling power so that it can compete in the local market. To overcome these problems, the Community Service Team at the Faculty of Agriculture, Universitas Sumatera Utara offers the application of technology in the form of drying machines and vacuum packaging machines. The approach method used in the application of technological innovation is through a participatory, conceptual, theoretical, and practical approach as well as a reflective approach. The application of a drying machine can replace an open drying process that relies on sunlight, to improve the quality and hygiene of the final product through sensory tests which previously obtained e value of 6.550 ≤µ≤ 7.716 to 7.526 ≤µ≤ 8.803, besides that the operating capital of the machine is still affordable. Meanwhile, vacuum packaging machines are not only able to improve quality and maintain product durability but also increase product selling power.

Abstract

Differentiated learning aims to improve classroom learning by accommodating students' diverse personalities and backgrounds, enabling effective and efficient participation. This community service provides training for teachers at SMA Negeri 5 Padangsidimpuan on differentiated learning methods using information technology through a blended learning approach. The training included pre- and post-tests to evaluate teachers' knowledge and skills. Results showed a significant improvement in teachers' ability to use interactive applications such as Padlet, Nearpod, Classcraft, and Kahoot, with post-test scores indicating an average increase of 20% compared to pre-test scores. Statistical analysis using the T-test confirmed the enhancement, with p-values below 0.05 for differentiated learning concepts and application usage. Teachers reported Kahoot as the most preferred application, followed by Padlet, Classcraft, and Nearpod. The study concludes that designing and implementing diverse instructional strategies using interactive media tailored to students' needs fosters meaningful learning experiences and improves teaching outcomes. Future efforts will include sustained support for teachers and the development of technology-focused learning modules.

Abstract

Sekolah Indonesia Bangkok (SIB) faces challenges in utilizing online presentation platforms such as Canva, Prezi, and Slidebean. Both students and teachers have limited understanding of advanced features, leading to low-quality presentations and limited creativity in delivering lesson materials. Additionally, no formal training has been provided to maximize the use of these tools in the school environment. Students also get learning materials or guidebooks accompanied by learning stationery, as well as practical materials in the form of online platform web links that are ready to be processed. The guidebook given to the students is not limited to the training, but can be used outside of the training session. The learning method used in these learning activities is project-based learning where students will get an understanding of the benefits of creativity in presentation media and material on the use of online platforms 4.0, then continued with practical sessions where students are directed to implement the material received with online platforms provided through website links. The benefits of this community service activity are determined by considering the cognitive and psychomotor aspects demonstrated by the students. Based on the results of pre-test and post-test conducted on 35 participants, there was an average increase of 45% in students understanding of the use of the Canva, Prezi, and Slidebean platforms. Before the training, only 30% of students understood the basic features of these platforms, while after the training, this number increased to 75%.

Abstract

Maternal and child health encompasses comprehensive efforts to maintain optimal health at every life stage, from pre-conception to menopause. Midwifery services play a crucial role in this system, focusing on women's reproductive health throughout their life cycle, as well as the health of infants and toddlers. Food and nutrition are essential for development and serve as key indicators of overall health. However, many children still experience nutritional deficiencies, often due to a lack of interest in protein-rich and vegetable-based foods. The aim of this Community Service initiative was to educate cadre groups and mothers of children under five on utilizing local food ingredients to create nutritious snacks. The program introduced innovative ways to process red bean flour, oyster mushrooms, and catfish into nuggets and meatballs, providing a protein-rich alternative for young children. The service was conducted in Jaharum B Village, Galang District, Deli Serdang Regency. Results indicated that participating mothers gained valuable knowledge about protein sources and acquired skills to prepare nutritious snacks from local ingredients. These efforts are expected to improve the nutritional intake of children under five, contributing to better community health outcomes.
